  1. Well done. Nice to see people making a positive change in their community.
  2. I still prefer this, but maybe the rock would look better laid flat

  4. The 'cups' with the green 'seeds inside are the telltale indication that you have a terrestial liverwort. When a rain drop is caught by the cup it splashes out taking the spores with it.
  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosolenium "However, a plant sold as Monosolenium tenerum and commonly called "Süsswassertang" has been made popular as a freshwater aquarium plant by Tropica.[12][13] It was initially sold under the name Pellia or Pelia, and is now being sold as Monosolenium tenerum, but neither of these names is correct. The plants they sell are now known to be the gametophyte of a species of fern, in the genus Lomariopsis."
  6. liverworts don't grow well submersed
  7. The wider 'leaves' on the LHS of the last photo make me think it might be a 'fern' or 'filmy fern', not quite a moss from a botanical sense.
  8. thanks Stella Glad you're able to see the funny side. Laughter's the best medicine, how's the recovery going?
  9. Hi Stella, What's the link for the site that the pic is on?
  10. I'm in the same boat. I vaguely remember one of the victims had been a vegetarian for about 20 yrs so I expect we won'y be able to give for at least another 5 yrs. Then if they do decide to allow us, it may only be for certain blood components.
  11. Elvis has lived in the pond his entire life, but we didn't see him for the first couple of years. We found him again as a foot long eel when the pond got a long overdue makeover. We were very surprised to say the least. The Inanga have always adapted really well to being handfed, and one of the bullys is good as well. But Elvis just decided one day to start coming out for hand feeding, I guess he got to the size where he needed the extra food. This is the first time we've taken photos and vids of the pond because we've recently got an underwater camera, mainly for diving, but now I see the possibilities for my tanks as well.
  12. The vids were taken in the pond with an underwater camera. The ponds only 1000L so evetually we'll either need a bigger pond or another big tank. The tank will have to go in the garage though, cause the wife won't let me have any more tanks in the house.
  13. I split some firewood today and found a whole lot of Huhu Grubs  . So I figured that Elvis the Eel would like them, yep I was right :happy1: . Now; we've had Elvis for about 4 years since he was an Elver, about the thickness of a shoelace, and he's become quite friendly :happy2: . My son took 4 videos and a few pics that we thought you would like to see :spop: First video: http://youtu.be/vZC7kR9Wj8o Second Video: http://youtu.be/1Ct1M8nIx6U Third video: http://youtu.be/-yi339Hm9uM Forth video: http://youtu.be/q5bbI7pEQvU Enjoy :spop:
  14. Good on ya for donating, keep a count of how many times you donate, then when you're really really old you can think about the dozens and dozens of lives you save. Unfortunately I can't give blood any more because I lived in the UK around the Mad Cow Disease time. I really miss it, it always felt nice knowing I was helping strangers.
  15. Nice to learn some more details on native fish. Now where's the 'jealous' icon...?
  16. I think it might be a Koaro as well based on the jaw length.
  17. Hi Stella, Hope the recovery is going well. What fish did you find? Get Well Soon Purplecatfish
  18. I lived in Basingstoke for a year and a half on one of my O.E.s. The locals called it Donut City because of all the roundabouts, they had so many that they had to give them all street names so that people would know where they were. But in Farnham they had a roundabout that was so big they had a pub with a carpark in the middle, it was called the 'Sheperd and Flock'.
  19. The other rule change is "At an uncontrolled T-intersection, all traffic from a terminating road (bottom of the T) will have to give way to all traffic on a continuing road (top of the T)." In case a picture would help everyone
  20. Check out http://www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic/around-nz/road-user-rule.html "From 5am on 25 March 2012, this new rule will require all traffic turning right to give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and turning left. This applies at cross roads, T-intersections and driveways where both vehicles are facing each other with no signs or signals, or the same signs or signals." "Will there be any changes to the give-way rules at roundabouts? No. You should continue to give way to all vehicles that will cross your path from your right as you enter the roundabout." Does it make sense now?
  21. How many were there? And who's the President-elect?
  22. The best way of remembering it as far as I've heard is "if you're going to be hit in your passenger's door, you should give way"
