sweet - well as long as I'm not going mad! What sort of noise do the "talking cats" make? Also, how aggressive/territorial are they?

    Clown Loaches!

Ok people... I need confirmation here! To those people that have clown loaches - Do yours "click" when they're eating? Cause I'm absolutely certain that mine do, I can hear it from the other end of the room! But when I mentioned it to the girl at Hollywoods, all I got was a blank stare...

    Oh. Migod

Right well, I bought the Fluval 304 today, along with the Fluval Surface Skimmer. My question is: How in the Seven Hells do you make it so that it spins like it does at the shops?? I thought maybe that it had to have an air bubble under the little plastic thingee, but no. Then I thought maybe if I played with how high or low the screw thingee is in would help, but no. I'm lost!!!
  4. that's the buggers!!!! SOOOOO CUTE!!!
  5. LMAO Shilo!!! Quite possibly... If I was wearing a black singlet, then yes, it was me... I've realised that every time I go to Hollywoods I'm invariably wearing my singlet lol
  6. they were just in a tank with "freshwater puffers" on it... they're really tiny, and really cute!!! eyes like this hehehe I suppose I'll ask what kind of temperment they've got when I go in next w/end to get my black ghost
  7. I saw some of these in Hollywoods - SO CUTE!! What sort of size do they grow to, what do they eat, would it best to keep them in fresh/brackish water & would a millenium wet/dry or an internal filter be better for filtration etc etc ?? I've got a spare 2' x 1' x 1' tank sitting in my closet that I might put to good use for a puffer
  8. I took the easy way out peeps 8) I've re-located the fish to what once was the coldwater tank, now a tropical community tank... the old 2' tropical which was under attack has been stripped, scrubbed, rinsed, scrubbed, rinsed & rinsed again, and will now sit beneath my 4' tank, as a quarantine tank  YAY - I'm off today to go to Hollywoods & Jansens to see what plants I can get, and maybe a couple of hardy fish for a bit of movement
  9. do you remember the URL John?
  10. The only puffers I've seen are the "freshwater puffers" at Hollywoods... I was told I couldn't have them with the Siamese fighter 'cause they'd rip him to shreds Anyone know where to get Brazilian puffers from in Auckland?
  11. I don't know if puffers would be a good idea Ira... I've got a Siamese Fighter, 2 clown loaches, 1 peppered cat (he's getting some frineds next week), and 2 bristlenosed cats... Aren't the puffers a tad too nippy for the fighter??? I was thinking of getting a freshwater puffer for the 4' tank, but I've heard that they get nasty as they get older, and I want a community tank
  12. Help! I'm being overrun by Ramshorn Snails!! I've got 2 Clown Loaches in there, but they're not doing their job:cry: Other than getting my hands wet and crushing the snails myself, which could takes HOURS, what can I do????

    Oh. Migod

A couple more Clown Loaches would be a good idea KerryO They like to be in groups... I got two, and they've ended up hanging around my catfish most of the time, so when I've got some spare $$ I'll get a couple more

    Oh. Migod

Chichlids? hrmmmmm The Chichlid website says they get quite big, and I'd have to upgrade the tank in a couple of years... I'm trying to get a rein on this hobby!!! I want some medium sized fish... I think I'm going to have to spend a good couple of hours in Hollywoods working out what I want in there... They're a good crew

    Syphon

I think I'm going to have to give up fish keeping if it involves math like that!!!!

    Lighting...

Ah true... right well, I'll remember to turn the lights off before I go upstairs at night

    Lighting...

I've got the algae covered I was just thinking more along the lines of lifespan of the light bulb itself, as fluoros are designed to be on for longer periods of time than the standard incandescent, aren't they?

    Lighting...

I've just had a thought... (dangerous as that is!) Fluouro lights are designed to be turned on, and left on... Is it bad for the fish to have the tank continuously lit? I mean, would it be wreaking any kind of havoc with their circadian rhythmn??

What're the dimensions AJ? Looks great!

    VA-380

Hey guys - I bought a Via Aqua Aquarium maybe a month ago, and the fluoro bulb isn't going anymore! I've taken it out, and made sure all the terminals are clean etc, but it just isn't going! Surely a fluoro bulb is meant to last longer than that! Should I call the LFS and ask them?
  23. PLEASE tell me these are available in NZ!!! If so, what kind of temperment do they have? I'm setting up a 275L tank sometime soon (just waiting for the stand to be built!) so I've got plenty of time to think about what I want in there!
  24. Aqua

    Oh. Migod

true that... I'm still stuck on what I want to get in there... I've changed my mind again, I think I want lots of little fish, and maybe some medium sized fish, and HEAPS of plants
