  1. hehehe sorry... momentary lapse of reason, don'tyaknow aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back to killifan
  2. Yeah Chris - Takapuna beach! www.nik.co.nz/takbeach.htm is just three photos I took with my cellphone @ takapuna beach. Is there a way to remove limpets/anenomes from the rock they're on, or would it be best to find ones that're attached to loose rocks? Gawd knows that'll be a mission!
  3. hehehe not a problem! Like I said, it was either that, or they get thrown outside for compst for my potted tree (aloe something or other)
  4. I was looking at doing water changes every weekend, maybe 50%... Otherwise, wouldn't the greeblies die off, and therefore create humungous nitrate/nitrite spikes etc etc? And filtration? I thought the live rock etc would take care of that?
  5. aww that would've been cute!!!!! If I go to the glazier though, won't that just get my sheets of glass? And I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of where to go! lol I don't want too big a tank, cause that way there'll be more cost in keeping the thing balanced, and I only really have room for a tiny tank in the bathroom

BLINKY!!!!!!!!! I want a Blinky!! (not the koala-type blinky either!)
  7. wow - how did you manage to get your hands on an occypuss??? Take a look at the link up there ^^ Really good - I'll use it to convince the bf to let me go through with this idea Keeping the tank cool shouldn't be TOO much of a problem, it'll go in the bathroom bench, and the bathroom is the coolest room in the house - what with the window being open 24/7 to keep it mould-free  Now all I gotta do is get a 2' tank from Jansens... wonder how much they charge?
  8. the answer to all my dreams! http://www.divenewzealand.com/rockpool43.html YAY 8)

mebbe one of the Gods has a head like that, and they bring prosperity? :-?
  10. no lights? But then I'd need to have it in a brightly lit area? I notice you've had this thought already Caryl - somewhere down there lol Did you have any success? Does anyone know what the 'normal' temperature would be in the rockpools in the wild? 'Cause the ambient room temp in my house seems to be sitting around 21ºC (ish) during the day (when we have the heater on lol), so I'm hoping it won't be much less than that!!! hrmm.... I could get quite a small tank from Jansens for about $20.. pretty much a little cube - that would be fine Would I be able to collect sand from the beach to use as 'live' sand, or would all the bugs in there die off and kill everything else in the tank? So many questions, so little patience!!!!!
  11. So do I Ira!!! If only I could just wander along the beaches up here (I didn't know there was this many accessible beaches on the Shore!) and bring some new livestock home with me! Peety!! What would I need to get started on a TINY Marine tank? I'm talking equipment - like heater, filter, lights etc etc... I'm really interested in getting something small set up, like, less than 2'... Preferably a set-up that won't die on me within days!
  12. www.nik.co.nz/takbeach.htm Can anyone tell me what the top picture is? I thought it might possibly be some type of anenome? The bottom two are of little fish - kinda hard to see, but what do you expect from a cellphone??? (if you look at the bottom-most pic - there's a reflection of my phone lol)
  13. LOL Chris - hope that the Indian Fern travelled well
  14. niiiiiiiiiiiiice.... wana swap for my 4' one??? I would LOVE a bigger tank!!!! What're the dimensions for that beast?

If you want more pics of the SAE - go to www.nik.co.nz/cross.htm
  18. jiba - from memory - your tank holds about 56L... I had one the same size My bf's son now owns it lol - I thought it was cruel keeping a goldfish in a bowl
  19. Java Moss!! I had a bunch of it in my 4' tank, and removed it, cause it kept ending up in stale places of the tank, and catching heaps of flotsam, but I looked recently, and it's actually growing on the piece of bogwood I've got in the tank - a couple of small strands was all I'd left in, and now it's growing like mad! Plus, your WCMM will love it, and probably spawn in it
  20. true - the pump I've got is one of those ones used for decorative effect in ponds etc - water in the side, and out (at pressure) at the top... if I set up a nano-reef tank, I wouldn't have a filter unit, the live sand/rock would take care of that for me. This is sounding more & more appealing - it's just going to have to wait, as I'm going in to study in October, so I need to be watching my money - my boyfriend has told me I'm not allowed to go into Jansens Glenfield anymore!
  21. would it grow at all, do you know? It's a weird plant, it actually seems to do better the less natural light I give it, and the more humid the air, hence why it lives in the bathroom...
  22. hrmm... is a strong current, like, breaking waves kind of thing considered bad? I mean, I have quite a powerful underwater filter that I could use in a little marine tank, but there would be quite a bit of circulation, unless I could tone it down somehow
  23. Hey all, I just noticed this morning some interesting behaviour with my wcmm... They are all congregating around the middle (lengthwise) of my tank, in between to large floating indian fern 'colonies' <-- There are aggressive males, and submissive males, the aggressive ones seem to have much more colour, the submissive ones are quite pale! A couple of the females (I think I only have about 3 females in a group of about 14 :-?) are so large they are starting to resemble hatchetfish! I'm uncertain why they've all of a sudden decided to do this, it's definately courtship behaviour, and all of them, male + female are taking turns at swimming through the root structure of the indian fern, sometimes finding something to eat, other times they just hang there for a little while and then leave again... if only my flatmate was awake & out of bed, I'd borrow his digital cam to show y'all!!! Ah well - here's hoping I get some babies! On the topic of babies - here's a quick list of the current inhabitants of the tank: 1x Betta splendens - www.nik.co.nz/betta.htm 2x Botia macracantha - www.nik.co.nz/botia.htm 2x Crossocheilus siamensis - www.nik.co.nz/cross.htm 1x Hypostomus plecostomus - www.nik.co.nz/pleco.htm 2x Corydoras aeneus - www.nik.co.nz/caeneus.htm 1x Corydoras paleatus - www.nik.co.nz/cpaleatus.htm 2x Ancistrus spp. (male & female I think) - www.nik.co.nz/ancis.htm 14(ish)x Tanichtys albonubes - www.nik.co.nz/tanic.htm What out of these are likely to chow down on the fry? Obviously the Betta, and possibly the wcmm, but does anyone know if the Crossocheilus would eat them?
