  1. YAY I bought a peppered catfish Seems to be settling in well, so I'm happy
  2. LOL there's NO way I'm going for marine until I own a house... And I'm 20, and a lowly call center operator... that ain't gonna happen for a while... Even though my flatmate really really wants seahorses! :-? I see your point with the 'expense' of going tropical, but when I'm on less that $2K a month, and I'm moving to a house where I'm paying double the rent, the tropical can wait a while lol
  3. heheh yea it does make it tempting, but I don't have a filter for the big tank, I'm using an U/G filter for the 26L, and that covers *almost* all the bottom of the tank, and I've got to uplift tubes in it, each with their own airpump, so that one's sweet  So yeah, to go troppo for the big tank, I'd need filter, thermometer, heater etc... And I'm moving house on Sat 18.01, so I'm going to be poor for another month... Monthly pay SUCKS!!! So..... you mean to say I just buy a tropical hoover-fish and it'll fix itself? I was told it can do this, but it's really difficult???
  4. YAY! This means I get to have some hoover-fish?? I love those algae eating things!! They look soooo cool! But I was told that they're strictly a troppo fish, but you can acclimatise them, but it's difficult? That's what I was told by the pet store in Pakuranga mall... OOoh my head hurts now! Thanks for all the info!!
  5. Right. Now that I've got two tanks big enough to actually stock, I want to use the largest one (about 56L) with some nice fish! Only problem is, I don't want to go troppo yet... Can anyone recommend good coldwater fish that have a reasonable amount of color & movement? The WCMM are lovely, but they're going to have a tank to themselves... or possibly share it with a school of leopard fish... Not sure on that one yet... So yeah, What fish would be good for a 56L tank? Amounts of fish as well? 8)
  6. hehehe it's sad isn't it?? BTW - the cam showed up a lovely black box with a reflection of my monitor... no pics of fish yet....
  7. Actually... they look a little dwarfed! I'll try and take some pics of their new set-up so y'all can have a look! But I can't profess to getting good pics, I've only got a webcam....
  8. hehehe me again... I couldn't resist!!! I've relocated the wcmm's to their new home prematurely... I just couldn't help myself!! The empty tank was just sitting there looking at me with a sullen look on its face... fill me I swear! It talked to me!!! Here's hoping they like it And now I have to move them again in just over a week's time...

    Hewwoo!

YAY!! I'm moving house next week!!! it just means that I have to wait a week before I transfer my minnows to their new (26L) home  Ah well, they tell me patience is a virtue...

hehe sweet! Who would I contact RE: joining clubs in AKL?
  12. Aqua

    Leopard Fish???

Do you know of anywhere in Auckland that'd sell them? I spose I should contact Jansens and ask them
  13. Aqua

    Leopard Fish???

OK, that's good... Any further infor? I know NOTHING about these fish...
  14. Ok, A little bird told me that leopard fish can be a coldwater fish as well? Ok, throw me a fricken bone here... I'm the boss... need the info Any info y'all can give me people? Dear god, I'm getting sucked into more breeds already.... May have something to do with the fact that I have 2 tanks sitting around me empty.... Just waiting to hear back from the land agent to see if I get to move house or not
  15. OOH! OOH!! I WANT SOME!!! Now that I have 3 tanks, I can afford to have hybrids, without having them mix I know this post is a little out-of-date - I'm just hoping that the offer is still here!
  16. Yeah, I've been given a fishnet with the tanks I just got - along with a pump, gravel (i'm in the process of cleaning it all), testing kits for Nitrite & ammonia & pH, an u/g filter, which I'll use for the smaller tank (445*225*225mm), as it covers most of the base... Will get a new u/g filter for the big tank (605*305*305mm), but I think I'll start by moving the fish to the 445 tank, and keeping the bowl for stasis or breeding... And HEAPS of other stuff!! God Bless Trademe.co.nz!!!! YUP - definately been bitten by the breeding bug! I wonder who supplys the local pet shops with WCMM - maybe me soon! Unless, of course, I'd be treading on anyone's feet in the process?
  17. are infusoria visible to the eye? YAY I've just got two new tanks Gotta scrub them out, and clean them, but the wcmm's will soon have a new home :-) D'ya think it's worth breeding them in a separate tank, or would that just be far too much effort for no use??
  18. Yet another question!!! What would I be feeding wcmm fry on? I'm scared that they're gonna breed on me before I'm ready for them!!!
  19. What a brilliant idea! Saves having to make an entire hood-type contraption! So just a desk lamp with a flexible neck so I can point the bulb sideways across the tank? Would it be worth getting something set up to direct more light downwards into the tank, or would that bulb be sufficient??
  20. Yeah, when I upgrade to a 600*300*300 tank, I'll definately get an u/g filter that covers the entirety of the tank floor
  21. Well, I just went out and bought a lightbulb... It's one of those Philips "essentials", the energy saving ones... It's a fluoro tube, so I'm assuming I've got the right one??? Now all I gotta do is wait for payday (mid-month) and get a connection cable So many ideas, so little money!!!!
  22. So is there really any point to the little filter-thingee on top? I don't have any other mechanical filtration in my bowl atm... I'm looknig at getting a new tank, and that comes with a side-mounted filter
  23. Yes, I was referring to the little thing that the bubbles filter through I think that the u/g filter the girl sold me is not right, however, coz it doesn't cover the entirety of the bottom of the bowl... it takes up maybe 2/3 of it, but not quite all.... Seems to be doing the job tho... And I'm sure the fish won't mind, seeing as they're moving house as soon as I do Sorry for any confusion peeps
  24. I take it Java Moss takes well in cold/fresh water? Looks kinda spindly..
  25. Java Moss? I had a nosey around for that at Jansens the other day, and ti was like, over $30! All I wanted was a little clump of it... They didn't have any either, it was just written on a tank I don't even know what plants I've got in there at the mo... One of them sorta looks like stems with lettuce leaves on it, and the other one is like, the generic tank plant, I think
