  1. hehehe thanks! yeah, I'm pretty much leaving the fish to it... That way I can't be blamed!
  2. lol I do believe that may have already happened... I hadn't really been looking at the tank for the past week, and now there's a lot of nearly invisible wriggly things in there... Ah well, the petshop should sell me enough liquid food to last a lifetime anyway What's the going rate on selling WCMM to retailers?? I was thinking maybe $0.50 each... And how long are they tiny for? As in, how long before they're as big as the ones you'd buy??
  3. Careful - you'll give me a coronary!!! hehehe I'm not *that* highly-strung... honest!!!!
  4. hrrmm.. that could prove interesting to obtain.... I have some old thin shirts???
  5. Pity I dunt have any... Cooked egg yoke? so I just boil an egg, and mulch the yoke up with water, and put the liquid in the tank??
  6. errrrrr, hard to tell, the blighters keep moving!! There was a small school of about 10 floating in one corner, and multitudes more attached to the sides of the tank, maybe 20 - 30 or so per face?? Sooo many! What's good to use as a food? I was considering rushing to Newmarket this afternoon to get liquid food, as the Pet Shop doesn't have any brine shrimp, and they'd take a while to get edible, wouldn't they?? I'm such a newbie when it comes to this...
  7. Gee - that was fast! ssshhh, don't tell anyone, but I'm actually at work! Thank God for long periods between calls!!
  8. OMG!  My white clouds have multiplied!! There's a swarm of little see-though things with large black eyes all over my tank! I wasn't terribly prepared for this... I honestly thought it'd take a little while longer than a week for the WCMM to get to it!! Just thought I'd share with you all... thanks Caryl!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. ok... will do... any tips? Not sure on what to do for either lol
  10. Live food... the occasional small winged bug manages to find its way into the tank... I take it that doesn't really count? What would be best to start feeding with? I have freeze-dried worm cube -y type things, but yeah, that's not really live...
  11. hahaha geez! Good thing I got some new glasses a couple of months ago then! Catfish has been diverted anyway, he's been translocated to the tropical tank, and to be honest, he seems happier in there than in the coldwater tank! Now just waiting for NZPost to get their A into G and deliver my moss! hehehe
  12. OOooh that sounds more like it! I think the postie is hiding the moss from me hehehe I've been checking every time I have a break! well, I'll give it a go with the catfish in there, and if he eats them, then I'll remove him
  13. that could be interesting... How long would he need to be in a separate tank for? I *do* have a tropical tank as well, that needs a grubber to clean up that one, but the shock would probably kill him... :-( Failing that, I do have a small 5.5L tank he could live in! no filter for it tho. :-S
  14. Right - quick question peeps! In my coldwater tank, I've got me some wcmm & 1 (one) peppered catfish... I was just wondering - WHEN my minnows get around to breeding, how likely is it that the catfish is gonna eat the lil babies?? (envisions fat b*stard - "I et a bebby") obviously, I wana keep as many of the little 'uns as I can!

    Woop Woop!

YAY! I've finally got my tropical tank set up! I couldn't resist... Just for the info, I've got a Millenium 1000 filter - great little thing actually!and an Elite800 powering an airstone, and a thermometer/thermostat/heater in one type doohickey... And - for the fish, I've got 12 neon tetras in there at the moment, thinking about getting some more peppered cats, as they are cool. Would've thought about a Pleco, but I saw a *monstrous* sized one at Hollywood Fish Farm over the w/end, and the guy told me that it was only a 1/4 of its full size! Those things get HUGE!!!! And now it's question time  What else could I get into a 56L tank with those neons? I was thinking of getting a loner Angel, but I've heard that they get aggressive... Was also thinking of getting a few clown loaches, mebbe a black ghost knife, some glass cats etc etc Also need to get a proper light/hood for the tank, as at the moment, I've got an incandescent desk lamp on it And - btw - the coldwater tank is going well, I've finally managed to sex the minnows (I think) and from what I can see, I've got 2 boys & 2 girls, and the loner peppered cat. Just waiting upon the moss, and then I can have baby minnows!! Well, that's all from me for today
  16. Erk. Ummm Yesss.... Of course I knew that! :-? hehehe general scavengers are good, not that the minnows really make that much visible waste!
  17. Bugger. Ah well - I'm sure hollywood fish farm would have them - I know that's where I got my peppered cat - and where I plan to get more! If you're ever in auckland, take a look! http://hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz is their URL
  18. is that shop in Auckland Dennis?? Please say yes... I've got a WCMM tank as well, and need some more alga-eaters :-D How easy are peppered cats to breed?

    Moving...

warmer? they're coldwater fish..... But no, I hadn't thought of using one... Not sure if I could convince my flatmates to let me use his chilly bin to transport live fish....

    Moving...

Geez - that would have been fun!! How'd you manage that?

    Moving...

The tank is only about 26L, so it's a reasonable size... A damned sight better than the 5.5L bowl I had before!! That's cool about not having to do too much to move! YAY! I thought it was going to be a mission from hell, but obviously not!

    Moving...

Hey all - I'm moving house next week, and I need some info on how to transport all my aquaria stuff... I only have 5 small fish, so I was thinking of having all of them in a bag (I was given a few from my pet store), and having a separate bag for my live plants. Is it possible to just take all the water out, and leave the gravel where it is while I move it all? My new house is only a 5 minute drive away, and I've got an U/g filter, so I don't really want to disturb that... Also, I wanted to use as much of the tank water as I can, so if I just dump that into buckets, and just put it back in the tank, let it settle, and then put the fish back in their home, would that be fine? Anything in there that's a big bad, or anything else I need to think about? Cheers

Hey all, I just realised today - on an earlier thread, I mentioned that I saw some Java Moss for sale @ Jansens Botany Downs for $30-odd.... My bad - it was Java FERN!!! Sheesh! BTW - if yer in auckland - GO TO HOLLYWOOD FISH FARM!!! 36 Frost Rd, Mt Roskill... They are soooooooo good!!!! 8)
  25. ah ok... Will get onto that then... Hollywood Fish Farm ROCKS!!! I was shown them today, and that's where I bought the peppered cat from. The staff were extremely helpful, and definately know what they're on about!
