Hrmm the shaft does still sit in the magnetic thingee, but now that the 'boot' has come off, the filter doesn't seem to go! I've tried using the "easy" primer LOUSY and even tried to suck the water through, but nothign is working! I get a dribble of water, but nothing happens when I turn the power on

Yeah!! That little thing! I wasn't too sure on how important it is, but I've spoken to the guys @ Hollywoods, and they said that if it isn't that, I can bring the whole filter in, and they can run some tests & see if there's another problem with it instead. I'm pretty sure it's the little black 'boot' though...

Yeah, I've got the ribbed hosing ... I find it clogs up a lot faster! I'll call Hollywoods / Jansens, & see what I can do...

Where did you get the new impeller from, and how much was it? I'm still a week & a half away from payday, so I'm kinda tight on money atm... :-?

no, the cylindrical magnet-thingee is still there, but there was a little black 'head' on the white shaft, that's what has broken off....

I just cleaned my tank, along with the good ol' Fluval 304. BIG MISTAKE!!! I have somehow managed to break off the little black thing at the end of the white cylinder that goes in the impeller unit... Now my filter doesn't go!! :oops: :evil: Is there any way to fix this myself, or do I have to go to the LFS & see if they can help replace it? I really can't afford to go out & buy another filter!! At present, all my fish are living in my old 36L tank, with no lights, a heater, and a Millennium 1000 filter, and some floating Indian Fern for company... here's hoping none of them snuff it!

Day 1: :lol: I went out and brought a little airstone (y'know the really tiny $1.35 ones) and the yeast seems to have gone to work overnight, cause when I shook the coke bottle (which is meant to help get things going) I got this HUGE stream on bubbles!!! I'm half scared I'm going to suffocate my fishies! :-?

Once you've got the DIY C02 generator made, you need to get the C02 to mix with the water right? Do you think that putting the airhose (that brings the C02 in) onto the bottom of the filter output? That way any bubbles would be carried along by the current, and hopefully would diffuse a lot more than if the pipe was just inserted into the water? If I decided to use a bell though, would I need to have the filter output near it to create a good current, or if there already appears to be a good current throughout the tank, would that suffice, d'ya think? So many questions!!!

I've already got an Amazon Sword (I think... I really need to get a digital camera so I can show y'all!) in there, so that'll be the centre piece... I want more 'thick' plants, that the fish can hide in etc... They seem to LOVE the cabomba & ambulia!

they'll still be better for my plants than plain old gravel though aye? I need a new plant now as well, cause I'm pulling the PEACE LILY out as soon as I've got a new, terrestial home for it! :lol:

Has anyone used lily plants in a large (48"x18"x18") aquarium with any success? I like the idea of having the stalks in the water, with a flower on the surface, would give a nice look to the tank, I feel, but want to know if anyone else has tried this...

Does anyone know if these are available? I'm looking at options to get my plants looking more alive :lol: and supposedly laterite balls can be inserted into existing substrate, as opposed to ripping everything out, and then putting laterite in the bottom 1/3 of the substrate...?

Hey again... :lol: I've got an Aqua-One 120cm light fitting, it has 2 light fluorescent bulbs in it, and one of them hums! It's really irritating!!! Would it just be a loose fitting? I've tried wiggling it around to see if it's slipped out a bit or anything, but to no avail... And it's only one of the bulbs! :-?

I didn't know that the Borneo wasn't an aquatic plant!!! But now that you mention it, it *does* bear a striking resemblance to a Peace Lily!!! I suppose I'll get a pot and replant it then :lol:

if they're the worms I'm thinking about, they turn up from a lack of water changes / gravel cleaning... I had them as well, didn't notice until I emptied a tank out, because it was infested with snails... I took one of the worms to Hollywoods, to identify it, and they said that it was for the above reason... Don't take my word as gospel, but may be a good idea to take your gravel out and give it a good clean!
