    Oh. Migod

Just got back from Hollywoods (another $70 gone!) I was told that the Shark 3 wouldn't be enough for my tank - the tank holds 248 Litres!!!! So, when I have my stand (in about 6 weeks), I'll be getting a Fluval 304.. $219 This "hobby" is just getting more & more expensive!!!
  4. Huh? Anyone able to help? I'm lost

    Oh. Migod

Carla, you're a gem The filter I've got at the moment (Came with the tank, along with a heater.thermostat & large airstone) is a Shark 3. I noticed that Shark is simply a brand name, and that it's made by Sicce? I don't know the power output of this pump...

    Oh. Migod

LOL I hate to say it, but I'm not really keen on guppies... Maybe I could just have a HUGE community tank.. Or, I've heard of like, "themed" tanks? Where all your fish come from one area? Anybody do this? If so, have you got any ideas?

    Oh. Migod

names? Gimme some pics to go by What have you guys got in your big tanks? (I'm counting 4' as big, I don't care what the rest of you say!!!)

    Oh. Migod

LOL well, my "large" 56L tank (2') is kind of heavily planted, I think that one will stay that way... So maybe a rocky tank would make for somediversity! I want to keep small AND large fish lol... that's not really possible, is it? I think I want to go for a few large fish - that way they can have names, instead of the shoal simply called "the neons" I *do* like the look of the fire-bellied (???) oscars... they look cute as babies
  9. Aqua

    Oh. Migod

I've just been given a four foot tank!!! HELP! What do I put in it???? I like the look of the red-bellied oscars @ hollywoods - are they nice fish? lol

    Moss?

OK peeps - maybe y'all don't scroll this far down the page when you check your messages lol... I'm looking for a plant to make a nice ground & rock cover in my tropical tank... Any ideas????
  12. Aqua

    Substrate??

And I'm taking it that I definately need the sterilised mix?
  13. Aqua

    Substrate??

8'.... Man would I love a tank that size!! It'd have to live in my garage though, I don't think our floors would support that kind of weight... So you suggest I go to a plant store and get just some potting mix & aquatic plant mix... I'm thinking I want to use some of the large flat stones I have in my tank to make sort-of terraces as well, I've heard that someone else has done that, and it sounds very good
  14. Aqua

    Substrate??

500kG????? are you kidding??? I only have 2 tanks lol - and they're not even 100L all added up!!
  15. YAY! Mitsy just took food from my hand... I'm so proud 8) To clarify... Mitsy is my Siamese Fighter
  16. Aqua

    Substrate??

Hey all, I'm wanting to make a nicer bed for my plants in my tanks, and I was wondering what you considered a good mix? I was thinking some soil of some kind as a base, then coarse sand/gravel on top of that... I just need something for the plants to be able to root into properly, as I'm sure that that would increase their growth and health significantly, because at the moment, they're just sitting in the tank with their roots being held down by the gravel, so there can't really be that many nutrients etc floating around for them?
  17. go here: http://saltaquarium.about.com bursting with info - my brain got confuzzled within minutes... I'm thinking about getting a SMALL marine tank... At Hollywoods they had one where they kept the seahorses, but now that they're no longer there, they've got a couple of clown fish in there, and I just LOVE them! Any ideas on cost/set-up people? I don't really want a big tank, as I'm renting, and although I don't forsee me moving anytime in the near future, you never can tell, so I want to be able to pack and up move with relative ease if need be...

    Hello NZ

Greetings Elapid! You'll find HEAPS of info here - this place is packed full of people that know more than I ever hope to! (even though no-one's answered my post about plants! ) Good to see you here, don't be afraid to jump into a discussion feet first! :-)
  19. I didn't have any problems Pegasus... I think it's just a matter of waiting for a while.. going to get a cup of tea while you wait kind of procedure

    Moss?

hahaha the ones next to our usernames... Silly me, thinking everybody else is on the same wavelength as me! So... What kinds of plants would be best for a moss, and would an entire ground-cover of plants be good or bad for my catfishes?
  21. Aqua

    Moss?

Hey all - I've just re-scaped my tropical tank, and I would LOVE some kind of plant to cover the rocks I've got in there... I've got some Java Moss, but that has only attached itself in portions to one rock, I'm looking for something to grow all over the rocks, and also something to grow like a carpet on most of the base of the tank (obviously leaving a reasonable amount as gravel, so my bristlenoses & peppered cats can still eat!). And, I feel I have to announce this: I'VE GOT A STAR!! WHOOPPEEEEEEEE!!!! Sorry, I've got that out of my system now!

    Faethery Algae?

I would if I could dude, but I don't have the funds, and I'm already getting strange looks/comments from my flatmate & my friends... I can just see myslf getting the nickname 'fishman' before too long!!! I almost agree with them though, it *is* turning into an obsession...
  23. Aqua

    Faethery Algae?

Where you located @ Pies? I agree with the clown loaches being damned cool... I'm just not sure how many more fish I could get into my tank lol I've got a 56L tank (24" x 12" x 12"), with a Millenium 1000 wet/dry trickle filter, reasonably planted, with 1 Siamese Fighter, 11 Neon Tetras, 1 Peppered Cat, and 2 Bristlenose Cats. How much more do you think I could get in there? I WANT A BIGGER TANK!!!!
  24. Aqua

    Faethery Algae?

Well, I got myself a couple of bristlenosed cats One is quite happy to run around the front of the tank, but the other has disappeared... I think it's probably hiding under a plant somewhere One thing though... My Siamese Fighter doesn't seem to much apperciate the new arrivals... He's taken quite an offense, actually... He's harrassing one of the bristlenoses quite a bit... Will he calm down? I thought maybe it's just the introduction of a fish that's smaller than he is, in his 'territory', and that hopefully he'll just back off soon!!
  25. Aqua

    Faethery Algae?

Do you know what kind of price the bristlenose retails at? I'm on a reasonably tight budget until next week, and I'm going to Hollywoods today to go and claim my filter wool, as they forgot to include it with my new tank I bought last w/end! Will the bristlenose get on well with my peppered cat? And, would a clown loach be friends with the peppered cat? They're kind of the same 'type' of fish, aren't they?? I'm going to take a couple of snails with me to Hollywoods to see what they say I should do about them actually... Hopefully they're easy to get rid of if they're not going to be any help to me
