  1. They don't look like interruptus to me... possibly some sort of mbuna hybrid. Where did you get them from? Are they privately bred or imports? The reason I am asking is because ages ago there was a shipment of Blue Melanochromis come into the country.. were supposed to be "Blue Johanni" but they were nothing like Johanni, more so look like interruptus Melanochromis hybrid of some sort.. Ryan and Glenn (peanuts) might recall them? They had more of the vertical banding...
  2. I'm with SpidersWeb, they can get very stroppy and territorial with age.. and also not a fan... as they get older the whole peaceful community setting might end the opposite, so just keep a close eye.

Try landscapers. And according to the landscape suppliers here the Alpine Schist doesn't have traces of lime.
  4. I have read conflicting information... Thoughts that it is and isn't... I think possibly that it isn't... I have looked heaps into the HITH case more and more lately as I purchased a pair of Jurupari that had the startings of HITH... they are currently having a second treatment with Metro. And also I am adding some to food to dose them internally. http://www.nationalfishpharm.com/articles/hexamita.html

I use alot of limestone in with my Malawis and other Tanganyikan tanks.. and Aragonite substrate.. I use the Kati Kati Red in the Fron tank, the dark red/brown colour looks great against the Frons colouring. If you can get your hands on Dolomite Rock then that is a good one to use. Often used in African setups. http://www.galleries.com/minerals/carbonat/dolomite/dolomite.htm
  14. I couldn't see the pic.. what did you purchase them as? When I first got mine they were rather small, slim... and seemed shy.. however as they have grown (now rather large) they are alot more bulshy and not shy about coming out during the day. I have never kept them in with peaceful fish simply because of the fact that most information you read about them clearly states to have them in with larger fast moving fish such as large species Barbs or Semi Aggressive to Aggressive Cichlids. Alot of loaches are most active at night, so you might see them as shy during the day but you don't get to see what they get up to when the lights are out
  15. They are not suitable for a peaceful aquarium.. I currently have 3 very large Blue Botia (Red or Orange Finned Botia) and they are suitable for a large fish tank only or with fish who can hold their own. They would happily terrorize and chew your fishes fins when they get larger. Mine are in a huge tank out at my husbands work with large fish, and they know their place  However, they would have a field day in a peaceful fish setting. They can also get to around 7-10 inches in size and if fed well are relatively fast growing. The only sexual difference is the females are much plumper all around. And as far as I know they haven't been bred in Aquariums.
  16. Hahahaha that will only help the fish obsession.... not....

I have read about people using forms of volcanic rock in African setups and it has been fine. Guess you would have to be selective. I use Kati Kati Red, you should be able to get it down that way?? It is really nice and ages really nice in the tank after a while, looks really natural.
