How big is the tank they are in? Not enough space to set up a decent amount of rock work, caves etc? I have found with Africans (inclusive of the Lionheads) as soon as even one cave or pot or whatever you use for territory is put in the tank they will all start to niggle... YET I have quite happily grown Africans in a tank with no rock work, no nothing... just substrate and not one fight as they have had nothing to fight over. Seems to me that since putting in caves etc as you said there isn't enough territory space for each and everyone to have their own little cranny.. so the fight begins Either seperate them out like you said, or if you have the room, heavily rock up or cave up to give more territory options for all... or try and raise them without anything for them to squabble over.
  2. I don't know overly much about guppies... However I got stung a long time ago when I kept some... I got some really nice meteorite blues (think that's what they are called) from a local breeder, beautiful things, healthy and great condition. I then purchased some other guppies thinking that I would add another splash of colour to my tank, only to find that the new ones had clamp fin or what I have been told a guppy sickness or virus.. (can someone correct me on that or have more idea on the guppy virus) These new ones knocked off every other one in my tank.. so they must have been carrying something. That served me right back then for not quarantining, you learn your lesson definately  Maybe the newbies you have added are carrying something, apparently whatever this thing I was told, doesn't effect the carriers but effects anything else they go in with (guppy wise)
  3. We would love to go sump under our 900 litre and would have definately gone sump if the floor wasn't an issue.. Didn't want to push it with the floor I am still thinking sump would be the awesome way to Alex
  4. Yeap you are right Brad, that's why we run two Aquis on our 900 litre.
  5. You're secret is safe with us We have 2 x Aquis 2400 externals running on our Fron tank, they are brilliant. They each do 2400 litres per hour. One filter alone is suitable for a 800 litre tank. And doing things right the first time is a definate when you have such a big tank to play with huh, we have yet to shuffle ours forward eventually to wallpaper... Joy
  6. Sumps are brilliant, however I am a fan of the big Aquis filters to. I take it you have a concrete floor Alex?, so an added sump underneath wouldn't be a biggy?
  7. Oh cool All I can say is they are beautiful stock and awesome condition. They are fair looking after those newbie fry to, little devils

Yeap they are cichlids but at least letting him know what they are, then he may edit his auction so that prospective buyers know what they are and are bidding on.

Awesome banaro 8) Have you still got your Placidochromis electra?
  11. The pic is showing up really dark this end :-?
  12. Well they looked in fantastic nick Tiden..
  13. Just about everyone I am hoping nothing else breeds for now And seems the old boy has the goods, eggs are definately fertile Cave is pretty dark, so I had to push my face up against the front of the tank to get a good look.. cave not the easiest to see into  saw nice orange healthy looking eggs.. she's happily fanning away... he seems like a dead beat dad... or maybe too much of an old fogey to bother with raising young bin lids, you might just see him feature on Jerry Springer  Oh and Frenchy, congrats on your Leptos!

 You are not hijacking at all... Mine get fed on Spirulina, Sera Granumeat (of which is an excellent product, shrimp based), frozen Mysis Shrimp they go nuts on! Good Flake mix... have a suck on the odd Pleco Chip.. overall varied diet
  15. My girls normally spit once they settle into their nursery tank that I shift them into, then I remove her into another tank to condition up or if her condition is good I will put her back in species tank. I have had to strip the odd female who holds on for far too long... if the females continuously hold without spitting then they can start to drop condition. You will find that if the female doesn't feel like she's in a safe zone, if she is a good mum, she will continue to hold onto them. Sounds like your little ones can be left a bit longer. You will notice her crop getting bigger and darker as they grow
  16. Welcome to the forums new2discus
  17. Yes the ones on that come from suppliers are often very expensive, even at a smallish size. Small ones were retailing not long ago for around $27 each down this way... and to be honest the imports I have seen come in are of poor quality. Very pale, and washed out.
  18. Yeap Brichardi are bad for that also.. That was a nice looking set up fishy_t
  19. The males here are larger than the females. Even the young I have noticed, the larger young look to be males. Robust vallis would do good, java fern etc would be suitable.
  20. The Yellow strain that I have is very much gold/yellow certainly different to the orangey/red that I passed on. I agree with Frenchy, definately keep them seperate as I noticed the differences a while back. Hence why I kept mine seperate.
  21. Did you buy them labelled as Tamboensis tho?
  22. Awesome cichlid7, would love to see some pics sometime
  23. How long ago did you get what you bought as Tamboensis? I got mine from a recent lot. Just a bit odd mine look so different to your ones. I got some of those ones from Phil, have a pair.
  24. My Jack Dempsey have spawned... finally after moving them back home from the display tank at hubby's work, they have settled into their cave and spawned... I am rapt, I didn't think the old boy had it in him... to kick them off with spawning, did a good water change and had fed them earthworms 3 days running.. 8) The female is a first timer, and these two fish have had a very strong bond over the past year and a half, but never spawned before up until now. The female is currently fanning a good amount of eggs and the male is resting, the old boy has done more exercise than he has ever done in his life, the big wuss, he would be about 7-8 now, 9 inches in body... not what I would call dinosaur but he's lived it up for a few years. I am dying to get some pics, but cave is dark and I don't have new cam yet... I just so hope I have cam before the fry are up and about with parents. I would have loved to take progress shots... hmmm mothers day is coming up... hehe
