  1. Re-wet the nig peat barrie and got another two fry. *Hopefully* they will both be fem (best case scenario) but only time will tell. Up to you if you wanna spare a fem at this stage.
  2. 2' Com. Tanks: BN trio, 5Black widows, 2Volcano Rasbora,4 Whiptail,3Sterbai Cory,2kuhli2dwarf loach,6neon,6glowlight,3 H&T light tetra Those fish spread over two 2' tanks? I still wouldn't add hatchets.....
  3. Wait, you're going to put MORE fish into your already over-stocked tank? WAIT UNTIL YOU SETUP THE 3 FOOTER!!!!!
  4. Dried mozzie larvae will float, live mozzie larvae wont unless it feels safe, then it will go to the top (but it wont be safe in a tank)
  5. Get a 44 gallon drum from barrys barrels, chuck a heater in it, and once its warm, use a powerhead to pump it into your tank
  6. Yes, full of eggs and ready to breed! Do you have any male danios in the tank with her?
  7. I think i should have around 15 by now
  8. Glowlights or penguin tetras seem to be the easiest/most commonly bred Then try cardinals, then try breeding something else like a cichlid, then try breeding mouthbrooders, then killies which spawn in peat, then try for something a little harder (like hatchets, although i highly doubt you'd be able to, would be a very demanding and time consuming task)
  9. so small! I want i want! Whered you get it?
  10. Lookin awesome man! Cant wait to see it progress and get that aro in there!
  11. I have 20 tanks running off two plugs in my room. I also have a TV which runs off them aswell. I thought it was dangerous etc etc until i actually worked out exactly how much power i was drawing, and i found i was only using half its rated capacity.
  12. richms, you are correct, no beams in walls anyway! There will be at least 1 stud behind the tank (unless its in a doorway lol) The tank is 900 long, studs are placed every 450 or so (i think, please correct me peoples!)
  13. im 17 and i have somewhere around 20 tanks  (mind you, mum has two!)
  14. No beams in the wall? I'd be more worried about your house falling down then the tank wobbling! Didn't you make the stand?
  15. an average marine tank, to get it started and stocked with a few corals and fish will set you back around 3-4 grand (yes people will say 'but i did it for $500, but they are lying, and/or are not going to have a tank for very long, because it will crash and fail  )
  16. you have to resize it in a photo editing program like photoshop. It has to be 80 x 80 pixels or less, and 8kb or less
  17. why would you sell the bigger tank to get a smaller tank, just because its tall? 2' is nothing these days, and is very easy to maintain. no different to any other tank......
  18. Shoulda gone deeper front to back. your aro will out grow that tank very quickly 8 x 3 x 2 FTW!
  19. Its illegal if we were to buy them and get them sent into NZ, but in alot of other countries around the world it is fine to do it
  20. At first i didnt like the whole limestone thing (was that what it was?) but it looks sweet now! Cant even see it in there! That is one mutha of a clam alright, Have you grown it up from a youngster or?.....
  21. So you would say they are males? i would say they are but cant be 100% as of yet. Are nigs the same at nothos RE salt? I will talk to you closer to the time anyway, but if i have no luck re-wetting the nig peat i would appreciate eggs or fish. Have a bag or two of rachovii peat that i can give you for them.....
  22. Best way to inject co2 is through pressurised co2. To put it as simply as i can, you buy or rent a gas bottle filled with co2, and slowly diffuse it into the water. Complicated part starts now: You need a co2 regulator to get the gas out of the co2 tank, plus a needle valve (which attaches to the regulator) so you can make the correct amount come out at a time. Regulators with needle valves can usually be bought on trademe for around $150 for an alright one. I think there are even cheaper ones there though, just single gauge ones, but even they would be fine. You then need the bottle. You can rent them from BOC gas and gear for around $10 a month, plus $30 for a fill (you need to pay for the first fill, but will probably only need it filled ever two years or so for the D size bottle (i think the smallest is D) OR you can buy a bottle from somewhere (not sure where, trademe often has them) and get it filled somewhere, but the down side to that is that you have to get it tested and certed every 5 or so years (i think) Once you have all that stuff, you will need some tubing (cheap as chips on trademe for co2 tubing) and a diffuser or reactor of some sort. The diffuser/reactor is what puts the co2 into the water in your tank. You can get them on trademe for $20-$30 for an alright one, and a bonus for you is you could stick it in your sump (which would keep the clutter out of the tank) The only problem you have is that by having a sump, the water gets alot of surface movement, and gets thrown around everywhere, so all the co2 you put into the water will just de-gas, and it will be pretty pointless. Having co2 on your tank would help, but not as much as it would by having it on a tank without a sump. IMO, you dont need co2, as your fish will create enough waste to keep your plant needs up, but it definately does help. Im sure that probably confused you, because i pretty much confused myself, but i hope in some way that it helps.....
  23. Got two nigs left; think they are both males, but i dont know what small females look like so cant be too sure. they are blackish and are speckly, so im presuming they are M's, but dont have any fems to compare them too.
  24. Erling gave me some Eggersi peat a couple months back (at SGM) and today the day finally came for it to be wet. So far i have pulled 115 Fry out.... Yes, one hundred and fifteen I can still see the odd one or two in the peat too, so im sure theres a few more than that to go yet! What am i going to do with them all? I will grow them up and keep two trios for myself, and maybe a few spare M's and F's, then i gotta get rid of the rest! I also hatched out some Nigripinnis a few weeks back, but had alot of belly sliders which for some reason they all died, except for two (which are not sliders) Will re-wet the peat after a month though and i hope to get more I also Bagged up some rachovii peat yesterday too, and i could see HEAPS of eggs in it when i was drying it out! (got some here for ya if you want em barrie) Thats my second lot of peat from them Along with them i have a whole heap of clown fry (around 1-2 weeks old) which are VERY small, aswell as a few Striatum fry Thats what my killies are doing, how are yours? 8)
