  1. Doesnt epsom salt raise the hardness?
  2. Could it have been from inssuficient oxygen? At higher temps the water holds less and if your filtration system isnt getting too much surface movement it can make the fish a bit sad.
  3. Cant remember what ratio my stock solution is but its alot easier that way. Still got nearly a litre of it :-? Usually lasts for a year or so apparently
  4. Fish TB is a very serious matter and is totally transferable to humans. A member on here caught it unfortunatly i believe and from the sounds of its a very nasty thing to have. I dont think it would be TB tho, usually they get sores and what not going on aswell but it would pay to quarantine it just incase. It could be inferior stock? It doesnt take long for them to bend up sometimes, gold danios are pretty prone to it. Other than that i would probably go for some sort of internal bug.
  5. QT might not always work for whitespot but what if those loaches had camallanus or some other type of internal nastie they are prone to? Once youve lost fish due to introducing others you get pretty cautious  Good to hear theyre on the mend, great work!
  6. Nothing will happen if you keep them with other fish. The other fish might eat the babies but thats it. I think it would take *alot* of fish to deplete oxygen levels if you have the correct filtration/turnover, the main thing you should be worried about is the increase in bioload which will mean more maintence to keep the tank nice (thats if theres heaps).
  7. Good advice newfish. When buying new fish/plants to add to your current tanks ask yourself 'could i handle losing everything in this tank?'. If not SET UP A QUARENTINE TANK!!!
  8. I would say it probably is purely an imported fish thing. If the parents are healthy enough and able to live long enough to breed then they should give you relatively good offspring. Golds are more sensitive than blues as a general rule though
  9. Whitespot is a very hard thing to deal with with regards to returning fish etc and CL's in particular are known be very prone to such things. Most stores do have a policy with regards to health but not many will cover whitespot because its so easy to bring on. In saying that though if the tank was already infected they may give you free treatments/ refunds if they pass on but there isnt much point in taking them back, either way the w/spots cycle has started in your tank. Best of luck with your treatment
  10. IME they up and die for no reason. My four were all fine for the first month or so then would start heavy breathing and die within a few days. Treated for flukes and the like but nothing seemed to make much difference. Having said that though we have two standards at work that have been happy as larry for over 2 months so maybe its just certain shipments that are poor quality.
  11. I've bred discus, albino cories and BN without trying which is all the fish ive ever bred, never tried intentionally.
  12. Standard golds are hard to get hold of atm because they arent on the list.
  13. looks like a sterbai or trilineatus (sp) corydora. im not up on cories enough to tell the difference
  14. David- another supplier bought some more ornates in a few weeks after the first at a lower price
  15. Ive read alot of aro keepers like cubes instead of your standard tanks. A person i know mentioned he had a shallow cube for his aro who was well over the 2 foot mark (cant remember how long, just remember thinking that was way bigger than everyone says to account for size wise), held around 2000L though i think. IMO if your gonna get such a fish do it properly, no skimping on tank size. Just cause it can turn around in a tank when its nose and tail can touch either side doesnt mean thats fair, you wouldnt put a dog in a pen that was only just wide enough for it to turn in would you? Good luck

    Fish Lice?

    Awesome, thanks guys!
  17. They must be here cause i had an albino pearlscale (it had pink pupils) a few years ago.
  18. It was probably fluffy because it had been there a while (fungus is oppertunistic). If it had fluffy stuff on it before it died then that would have meaned something weakened it and it took hold. Not really sure how sensitive borneos are to ammonia and stuff.

    Fish Lice?

Thanks Conch, so they arent harmful to the fishies? Worth chucking a few (hundred) tablespoons of salt in the pond?
  20. Agreed, your two O's might outgrow/out attitude the tank. Its amazing how a solid fish like an O can make a tank look tiny so keep your eye on them once they hit 'puberty', they can get a bit grumpy

    Fish Lice?

Had a customer ring up yesterday enquiring about some little bug things she has found in her pond. Her pond is 38,000L approx and holds many fish. Upon cleaning out one of the top ponds (from the sounds of it it has several levals) she noticed several leech like things latch onto her that were very hard to remove from her hand. She didnt say it caused her any discomfort but she had to use a knife to get the ones off her finger nails She describes them as almost 'sperm' like and when they have been put into a container for a while they seem to elongate, not quite to a worm shape though. Any ideas as to what these would be? Surely if they are latching onto her hands they would be going for the fish? My first thoughts were some type of fish lice but the pictures dont match up :-?
  22. Really heavily planted tanks often maintain 0ppm of nitrate. And also those who like doing water changes  As long as it is well established then it shouldnt be a problem to have no nitrate reading
  23. Personal reasons Cant say Te Puke high has an overly great enviroment. Farmers and wannabe Gangsters do fit in well tho
  24. Are these the ones that are breeding? Perhaps someones been a little rough at spawning time and damaged the swim bladder a bit?
