  1. I dont think there would have been any harm done and melafix is usually pretty gentle, if you were to chuck a huge dose of Formalin or something in there then that would certanly be dangerous. Hope he settles in soon for you
  2. Yay! Thanks Caryl Doing it now. I would think 99% of people on here would be able to pass it with flying colours- questions like 'how to catch a fish properly' and 'how to pack fish properly for long journies' etc, its designed more for people who are just getting into it i think but its still a good qualification to have. Cant wait to start the advanced one.
  3. Prazi is most commonly used for flukes and worms i think.
  4. Awesome! Alot of people have issues with Drontal because it contains other nasties you wouldnt really want in a tank so its good you have found another safer option. Have the fish shown a good improvement?
  5. She said they were more whitey in colour so im not sure however i hardly got a word in so couldnt ask her if they popped up more in winter (as carp pox does apparently). She's bringing in a few next week some time, at different stages of the problem, so I will take some pics and see if it can be matched up to anything.
  6. Maybe for a bit, they might get eaten eventually though.
  7. Read about these but didnt know if they were available as i couldnt really find any sinking ones for my bichir either. I dont know if I'd want 1kg though, it would go off before mine got thru it  If anyone has any smaller quantities or wants to split up a 1kg I'd be interested.
  8. Thats the one i saw that reminded me of a Midas. If they are hybrids... well thats a debate and a half. Wouldnt have em myself if they were though. It isnt a standard white con is it?
  9. They just arent on the lists- well not ones i have seen anyway If they show up on the list you can be guarenteed alot of stores will have them and most would probably get a few. Other than that you would be best trying private, but not many people want to part with them
  10. Ewwwwww. I'll do a bit of reading on that one then and give her a ring and see if it sounds like it. She did get the parents of most of her present fish from a big neglected pond and they had ulcers galore etc so perhaps its been passed on. Thanks guys

The ones that were a fainter pink when they came in appear more silver now- almost normal. There are still several that are still extremely bright though and havent changed in the last few days. Have heard back from Scott and his opinion is they are hormone fed to make them look 'better' and soon they will loose the pink and most of their red nose so thats a good thing they arent dyed. Might leave em out the back for a month or so to see if it wears off.
  12. Anything thats big enough to not be eaten and can stand up for itself should be fine as long as it suits the water conditions (ie no africans with them). I have an Oscar, Sev, Silver dollars, Plec, Bichir and Syno in my 460L and they all get on fine. Acaras, Dempsies, Firemouths, various Eels, some of the larger dithers (giant danios etc but they may become a snack eventually) and most bottom feeders that get a decent size should be fine- as long as your Oscar permits tank mates, not all do.
  13. Mightnt hurt to do a little w/c then, see if that makes any difference if they dont improve soon?
  14. Do you know what the parents were? I wouldnt use it for breeding if it is deformed. The net pictures on google look like white midas. No chance of a picture of yours?
  15. MAF have rung stores (well i assume so, they rung us) and told us they will send out a pack. Not sure if it contains clove oil etc to euthaniase them or if we have to do it ourselves and have to send the bodies back to them.
  16. Raise the outlet if you havent already so that its creating as much surface agitation as possible and perhaps add an airstone or two if you have one. Not sure if doing a partial w/c or not would help, doesnt tap water have a high oxygen content when its fresh?
  17. Had a customer come in today enquiring about her gold fish that are developing bumps, im stumped so thought someone into goldies might be able to help. She keeps them in baths, moderatly stocked. Dont think she has much in the way of filtration but she does water changes every week or so she said. She has the worst effected isolated and has run 3 treatments of Furan2 over them with no improvement. The fish start off with a pimple looking thing that slowly grows over time. Apparently it looks as if its growing under the skin though, not on top. Eventually they are raised around 1cm or so off the fish and they sometimes pop- but not really pop, more like the skin peels back down off the lump leaving who knows what exposed. I thought perhaps Lympho but i dont think the lumps got that big and burst, not peeled. This is happening to several fish and seems to be an ongoing problem. She thought perhaps the lead paint off her roof could be part of the cause as it is getting in the pond :-?
  18. Is he breathing faster than normal? Can you see anything inside his mouth?

Definatly not. It seems to outline most of their organs (well that big group of them) along with random patches here and there. Some have hardly any pink now and you can see them in the photos along side their pink friends
  20. Flourish Excel helps get rid of black beard. I have it in my planted tank and have been using it at a normal dose for a few months now, its going away slowly but surely.

Left the photos big so people can inspect closely, they are extremely obvious when the pictures are smaller http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/ ... Rummy3.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/ ... Rummy2.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/ ... Rummy1.jpg What do you think?
  22. Your KH sounds fine but if you were using additives to get it there then that may be the reason its swinging. Our tap water here as 0 of both KH and GH so ive put oyster grit in all my filters. Others use marble chip, dolomite etc (think thats it) aswell to raise the KH. Heaps of bio load will cause the ph to drop to a certain degree if the w/c's arent sufficient to replenish the stuff keeping it stable. We have had a good bout of rain recently (not sure if you have down there) but that could be another factor?
  23. Seems the males are a bit harder to find- we had one at work (a lovely couple who were very into bettas bought him) and havent seen any since

Over the course of the weekend they developed slightly red noses- some look almost normal now however some are still very pink. I spoke to a friend of mine in the UK who is a walking book and he pinpointed the species (only showed me a pic) straight away. I will send him a picture to see if he can shed any light on the pinkness and will chuck one on here too to get opinions. Spoke again to the supplier and he assures us they are not dyed and are just a pink strain *shrugs*. I think ill wait for my second opinion
  25. So sorry to hear about your loss You have a willing army here that will make their lives living hell for the next 50 years (death penality is an easy way out!). Hope they find who did it soon.
