  1. Agreed, if its not on the tank lids its most likely getting out into the room.
  2. Sorry HFF- havent kept up on the african talks. I got fry from one of the blue melanochromis a few months back though so they cant all be males?
  3. Smidey- I know the one your thinking, not sure what they actually are as they are sold as johanni i think but they arent *shrugs* David- Is joanjohnsonae an updated name for Exasperatus as we have them here?

    Latest rummies

After several hours in the tank they were still the same though and as i floated them in the tank i could see the pink on their bodies. Usually when the rummies come in their noses are faintly obvious but these ones noses have no trace of red at all and havent developed it :-? Their whole body is pink also to varying degrees- some areas are brighter than others.
  5. Biotope might be what you were thinking? Im not sure i would put balas in, they get pretty darn large and may snack on smaller fish. Asian themed tanks are quite easy to pull off- a mixture of glass cats, harlequins, loaches of some sort and dwarf gouramis always looks nice and usually peaceful aswell  South american themed tanks can also be quite nice. Rams, rummies or cardinals etc, cories, angels, various plecs and so on.

    Latest rummies

The importer said 'theyre all coming like that from singapore lately' but really, when someone buys a rummy they want a rummy- not some red noseless pink thing  Might give them a bell monday if noone has any confirmation of what they could be.

    Latest rummies

Im not so sure, ive never seen or heard of any rummies that have pink bodies. They will have to stay out the back until i know whats up with them. If anyone sees them and knows what they are/whats up with them can they please let me know.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has seen these latest rummies (from one particular importer only as far as i know)... Got some today at work, ordered as rummys and they definatly look like it- same shape and the stripy tail. Only thing is they have no red noses and their bodies are varying degrees of pink- almost like their nose colour has leaked into the rest of their bodies but its not uniform, certain patches are darker than others. They are currently out the back because if they are dyed im not selling them but thought perhaps they were something like the 'false rummies'? Surely if they were proper rummies and they were dyed they would still have their red nose? Have asked the supplier about them and have been told theyre just coming in like that from singapore. Any guesses from anyone thats seen them?
  10. 'The current female has a growth by the front of her dorsal which I've cut off/open and treated with heaps of things but still there and she's not spawning' Why are you cutting things off your fish or am i reading that wrong

    Agro Ram

Its cause he feels his territory has been envaded by new fish, hes just trying to assert his dominance. You can try re-arranging the decor to give the new fish time to set up their own headquaters however a ram is no match for an angry adult krib (especially if theyre breeding) IMO so keep an eye on them.
  12. Heres some pics of baloon mollies- http://images.google.co.nz/images?hl=en ... ages&gbv=2 And some normal ones- http://images.google.co.nz/images?svnum ... molly+fish However if their tummies have just gone this way recently. then they may be pregnant or sick.
  13. To lessen the turbulance of the new water going in (cause sometimes it will blow them around) you can pour it over your hand or plate to diffuse the flow. Many fish love to play in the fresh water, or at least hang around close to it
  14. Betta Coccina will get you more info. Cute little things but quite touchy ive read. Havent had any issues with them personally (at work) and i dont do anything special for their tank so it might depend on the water supply?
  15. I went to bunnings and got about 4m worth of hosing to fit on the end of my siphon- now i just chuck it out the window, start it up and away it goes. Still use buckets to fill it back up though but its certanly alot less hassle!
  16. I dont think its the sand matt, i think they just dont like you- better give em to me
  17. Depends how sudden you are talking- a few minutes would probably stress them a fair bit but it slowly rising over an hour or so would be fine i would imagine- after all it takes less time than that for a fish in a bag thats just travelled an hour to get up to the temp of the tank right?
  18. Agreed, with a larger gravel the gunk can get right down and out of view whereas with a finer substrate it tends to stay on top more- its easier to get it all out that way though
  19. I hope they are. People who have the intention of keeping these that know what they are are very irresponsible. It doesnt matter if 'they will never get released', it is making responsible fish keepers look bad and give them even more reason to chop the lists down. Not sure if we will get a visit at work or not from MAF, they did call us a few weeks back but i didnt speak to them.
  20. probably a human quality one? dunno if they come in 'hospital' grade or not but if they do id think they would be fairly accurate.
  21. I'll leave the in depth answers for those more in the know than me but i think the most common worms in discus are tapeworm and they are usually treated with prazi i think or maybe some sort of med in the food (no idea what though). Flukes are often treated with prazi also but there are several other meds people use too.
  22. If you did over clean the filter that will explain the bacteria bloom (the cloudy water). It will go away in its own time but it wouldnt hurt to do a couple of extra water changes if you suspect you are having spikes as they can upset the fish. Do you have any test kits at home or are able to get the water tested at the LFS?
  23. Im not sure i agree conch, i have 6 adult (13 to 15-16cm approx) healthy discus in a 220L tank. However it is a barebottom tank with no other fish and still gets regular 50% w/cs every 2-3 days. Also with a larger amount of discus you usually have less of a chance of one becoming the seriously runted fish as aggression is dispersed amongst the group. My 'runt' of the group still eats readily and is still a solid fish but it does hide more than the others. I wonder if it would help trying a BB tank out for a bit GW (would pay to wait for others opinions on this one tho), you would be able to keep it cleaner and it will make it easier to keep an eye on their poops. If his poops are still slimey i would suggest putting them all thru a course of a metro feed (if he is still eating of course) and see if that helps- ive read a few people do this every now and again as a preventitive but. Extra feeds with good quality foods and perhaps extra water changes should hopefully help him plump back up to his normal self Worms could be a factor but im really not sure what to look for when it comes to them other than the segments in the poop. Hang in there, you are doing a good job
  24. Throw those ph adjusting chemicals away, they are doing more harm than good and wasting your money at the same time. Test your kh, see what the reading is (tap and tank). Its possible you have a low hardness (or it may be changing) so a long term fix could be bird grit or coral bits in the filter to raise the carbonate hardness slightly which in turn should help keep your ph more stable.
  25. if they are acting fine i would think its something internal. do you know if they were wormed etc before you got them?
