  1. Hi all. I bought a bunch of fry several months ago. Some Red Shoulders and some Fryeri. One of the Fryeri has started to show colour and I couldn't help taking a few pics....so I thought I'd share..... The flash makes him look better than he is but the potential is obvious even to the naked eye.
  2. Not the same tank as the normal BNs if that was your concern I answered that 3 posts ago
  3. That pic was taken several months ago. Here's a more recent one...taken 5 days ago She's around 7cm. I'm really looking forward to getting her a boyfriend.
  4. Not the same tank as the normal BNs if that was your concern She's not fat....just well looked after I don't breed them yet. She is in with 2 Kribs that I'm holding for someone. As soon as the Kribs are gone I'll be looking for a male and another female. The Bn is around 7 cm. She is 1 of 3. The other 2 are bigger and are the breeders.
  5. Here's one of my female GBA And one of a female BN that I snapped this afternoon having a snooze...ZZZZZZZZZ
  6. :-? I'm stumped. Hopefully someone with more experience can help. I don't know if it could be the gravel. I use BB tanks for fry.....it's easier to keep clean. Maybe take out some of the gravel, put it in a jar of clean water (low or 0 nitrate) and check to see if the nitrate level rises.

    Koura

Hi again DJ I don't know about pH....I just used unmodified tap water.....but I know they need cold water and are very uncomfortable in water over 20 C
  8. What are you using for filtration? Could there be something wrong there? i.e. would the bacteria have died off for any reason and are polluting things? What are your ammonia and nitrite levels?

    Pet Hermit Crab

Hi DJ. I kept my Koura in 170 litres. I fed her worms, spirulina tabs, cucumber, peas, meat scraps...pretty much anything. Read through this thread.... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/koura-vt29475.html
  10. Hi Lush. Could there be a pocket of trapped food under a rock? Or a fish corpse? Also, test kits have a shelf life. How old is yours?

  12. Is the fish behaving differently? i.e. darting, gasping at the surface? Whats your pH? I Googled and apparently low pH or a rapid change in pH can cause excessive mucous production.
  13. Well no....I didn't hear it...... but all the dogs in my 'hood started howling and barking so I knew something was up.
  14. Thats some bad luck....but tell us....how's your toe??
  15. My mate? Yeah, some people from here have met him. Why? Do you think I have an imaginary friend??
  16. It's in a 5 foot, 440 litres.....or thereabouts Cheers 8)
  17. It's around 25cm and gorgeous
  18. How much movement do you have at the surface of the water? Like Dixon1990 says, an airstone is good or use the return flow from the filter to agitate the surface which will help oxygenate the water.
  19. Hi all. A friend of mine has a nice Albino Plec that I thought people might want to see so I got him to take a couple of shots. They're not the best pics but they're pretty good considering he used his cellphone. He has no idea what L number it is or a common name so if anyone can enlighten us it'd be cool 8)
  20. Me thinks the same.....thanks for the evidence dwalk.
  21. Hi Smax. I've used wood from the beach before. Keep in mind that it's called drift wood and it will float. I've got a peice in my comm tank that I've weighed down with a rock. As time has gone by I've reduced the size of the rock. It's been in there for 6 months and still needs a small rock to keep it in place
  22. tang = tanganyikan. A Cichlid from Lake Tanganyika.
