  1. I am just amazed that ottos have silver in them, I wonder which fish would die and cause you to find gold in the gravel, would be well worth breeding them!
  2. lol is it me or do you not actually talk about what fish are you trying to breed?
  3. Each to their own really.. Because they are still making the CF1200 and have been making them for years I can be confident there will be parts available for plenty more years to come, plus I know people who have ran them with no extra parts or anything for 6yrs+ now so they are definitely reliable. When you take into account the price difference they are definitely a good buy for what you get.
  4. Aqua one CF1200 Cheap, work well and reliable...
  5. Angels can be nasty but again it does depend on angle you have them on What size tank is this for? Is it for the 1m tank? I would say it is likely to work but would keep a close eye on it as peanuts has suggested, as the angels get bigger they can get aggressive and it wont take much to crack one of those little gouramis.
  6. Was at animal antics in Tauranga today and they had dwarf cockatoos, not the best quality but they looked healthy still think getting more than 1 with only one tank will be trouble for you though but only time will tell.
  7. When they are hatched and wriggling is the best time to transfer them, but if you have no spare tanks what do you plan to grow the fry out in? I would probably leave them in the community tank and once they figure out how to be parents maybe some will survive.. Either that or buy another tank to transfer the pair or eggs/fry to and raise them up.
  8. That is an interesting mix there.. Some of them would work together but not all of them. If you are seriously considering the Africans you are welcome to come out and see what I have and see if you like any of them.
  9. Would have to be some smaller africans in a tank that small.. I have no experience with Birchers but don't they eat anything smaller than them?
  10. Yeah it would make a good tang tank but they are harder to keep and more expnsive than malawis.. I find most people start with malawis and them go onto the tangs.
  11. Africans, lol you can get an awesome range of colours/shapes and stick alot in a 6ft plus they are hardy and most are cheap.
  12. Yeah that's what I mean t:)
  13. So you decided to go for a pair of cockatoos, good luck with that Why would you use a 60W incandescent, I would get a 6700k energy saving bulb it will save you a bit of electricity and heat and also be the right colour for growing plants and they are cheap.
  14. That should be fine, no biggie with any tank especially a 4fter its not very big I would stick at least 10mm poly underneath and ditch the carpet, carpet wont be any good if there is a nail head or something slightly proud on the top, it also wont be much protection for the timber (not that poly would be much more protection either for that matter).
  15. There are 2 species known as chocolate cichlids in NZ, I can't remember the names but one is quite dull the other quite bright, I am sure Nav can fill you in if you ask him he was the one telling me about it..
  16. Merry Christmas everyone I hope everyone has a good day And happy new year too.
  17. No idea on the cichlids I have some very nice big giraffes though... lol Don't waste a tank that big with pacus, you know what you should do with it!
  18. Oliver is a good name.. Or Damien, Brayden. Or Noah lol
  19. Yep nothing worse than trying to send someone fish and not having an address! Running around like a mad thing trying to find their number or a way to contact them in a hurry because you usually bag the fish as late as possible.. Have done it a fair few times now..

    Ram Growths

It doesn't sound like what my rams got the pics certainly don't match either but could be something similar, I thought it might have been a spiral nucleus type thing that affected them. Either way there does seem to be good and bad batches that come in from time to time. Are seachem doing anti-viral drugs?
  21. Looks awesome, glad the halide was good for you.. I wait to see the pics in 2weeks to a month when the plants start growing like weeds...
  22. I just use water from the hose.. It is usually recommended to use a dechlorinator just in case though
  23. The calculators are all on the main page, just plug in numbers, ideally you want a safety factor of over 3 but in reality most tanks have one of around 2.5 which is good.. I can only assume that the 10mm is not laminated etc? Do you have access to lots of 10mm glass?
  24. You definitely can keep 8-10 in that sized tank, petshops keep more in smaller tanks all the time, but you cannot expect them to reach their full potential (ie grow up nice and big and colour up well) or be very happy long term in it. There is a big difference between what will keep the fish alive for a few years and what will keep them alive and happy for alot longer.
