  1. lol no comment on the hybrids they can create some cool morphs but cause issues when they get out there and end up with different names or confusion over ID.. There was a wicked thread on cichlid forum a while ago with all the hybrids people had created and there were some awesome fish in there I can't seem to find it now though
  2. I am pretty sure because you can buy prazi (in the form of droncit or adtape) over the counter without a prescription it might not be very controlled..
  3. Yes they are dead obvious was referring to adding more peacocks..
  4. TBH with the size of the tank you have and the lower numbers of each fish you have I would look at boosting numbers of your existing species so they fill out the tank more before you add different fish.. Electric blues would be fine, as would peacocks of course bearing in mind if you mix any brown females you might as well flush all the girls, you can get around this by using dragonsbloods or OB peacocks which don't have brown females so you can tell them all apart.
  5. It is possible you had the guppy virus if it only affected your guppies..
  6. This list is pretty good and alot less than what you could stick in your tank when fully grown.. 13 demasoni 2.5" 6 electric yellow Lab 5" 4 pseudotropheus socolofi (albino) 6" 5 nimbochromis venustus (giraffe) 10.5", will probably get rid of these before fully grown 3 auloncara baenschi (yellow peacock) 5", not sure if they will be ok with all the Mumba when the get bigger so may have have to loose these as well??? =154" Total fish when fully grown, Your giraffes should be fine, I have kept them with similar or the same fish as your ones with no issues. They are pretty soft I have 2m 3f in my 5x2x2 and they aren't even aggressive enough to breed they let all the other fish push them around.. They grow quite fast if they are the biggest fish in the tank. Your baenshi should be ok with the above as well, the mbuna you have chosen are quite soft (obviously dems are quite agro but generally only towards their own kin) and tend to stick with their own kind. I would recommend not getting the ice blues they are nasty buggers and would cause more issues than the giraffes ever would, I used to breed and keep these but got sick of the males dominating big tanks and being agro, they are ok when they are smaller but once the males get some size on them they are really bad. OB zebras are not as agro but you may have the same issues, I could breed you some OB zebras if you wanted them but have found noone wants them so I don't breed them anymore.
  7. Make sure you get one where the bit inside the tank floats that way if it comes unstuck it is less likely to fall into the gravel and get sand/stones stuck in between it and the glass.. I do agree with the others though they can do damage I just use filter wool or an eftpos card and get my hands wet.
  8. Yeah mine are the same it makes more sense having the coarse and fine media before the biomedia but seems to work well with the fine afterwards.
  9. Really need a better description or a pic to comment..

    Tank Bracing

Does your 4fter have any euro bracing on it at all? Because that makes a huge difference..
  11. lol I didn't mean spend nothing, I meant you don't have to spend lots to have your fish stay away.. I read your post above as saying that he should cough up for a CF1200 or his fish will die, in reality he can probably get a filter for $10-20 off trademe or from a petshop that would be perfectly fine. Sure a CF1200 would be better but if you don't have the $$'s you buy what you can afford that will do the job.
  12. I don't know what ones are good, but the cheap warehouse ones are bad.. I removed one from my fishroom that was bent and twisted and half melted.. I now regularly check them all to make sure they aren't going to cause issues, apparently multiboards cause alot of household fires so choose a good one.
  13. Don't touch a compressor if you need it to be quiet.. The eheim ones to get recommended as being quiet quite often so might be worth a nudge.
  14. Unless you are good at disecting and diagnosing you may never find the reason.. Sometimes fish (like humans) just drop dead of all sorts of things. There are rumours that alof our bigger fish fail because of being fed incorrect diets (foods high in fats beef heart etc) or living conditions, while these things may help them breed lots and grow fast it may not necessarily be the best for them long term.

    Tank Bracing

Centre one would be the worst one to remove because that is where your tank will bow.. I would be inclined to maybe get the end brace cut back as much as possible to allow the internal filter, mind you if your internal filter is going inside the tank it may add some strength back to the tank as well..
  16. Damn its almost Feb already.. Sorry Josh too far for me to come and pick you up
  17. So to fit on the table it has to be less than 75cm long and roughly 50cm wide there should be plenty of tanks that will fit that bill
  18. Hi adn welcome, I think you are going to have issues with 4 female platties (and resulting fry) in a tank that small..
  19. You can treat the infection and the fish can still live a healthy and happy life, I had a demasoni live for a number of years in a colony after she had her tail removed by a much bigger fish who was trying to eat her.. But if the fish is too far gone and suffering, not eating and in bad shape then it might be kinder to put it down.
  20. Krib babies will also eat very finely crushed up flake or pellet food and other things they can find in the tank, plus microworms..
  21. Have you looked around in the papers and on trademe and seen if ther are any 75cm tanks around there? I mean it doesn't have to be 75x50x50 does it? I think the random size you are asking for would add alot of cost..
  22. Looking good The fronts still look cool with that random barring that is the line we have in NZ so not much you can do about it.. How many comps do you have in there?
  23. Then you will move all the snails/snail eggs in the filter and have the problem again within a few days.. You could borrow a smaller clown loach for a few days and then return it when it had done its job?
  24. Awesome, good to know I have heard that Erythromycin can be harder to source.
  25. If they are compatible then its all good Sometimes they get really agro and females will smash the male up so much that he is killed or jumps out..
