  1. If they have recovered they should be fine, sounds like you are just lucky that you caught it when you did. I would have done a water change in the middle of the night too, your mums mean!
  2. As many as you can afford lol Some recommend 12 min but I reckon because you have a big enough tank and if you can afford it then go with 20+ of each type.
  3. Sounds like a good plan Altos aren't supposed to be that good with the shellies the altos are supposed to get big enough to eat the shellies.. I can't see it being an issue with the altos I have at the moment and I think Smidey has them together with no issues.. Plus I don't know if you would source any altos anyway they all seem to be being snapped up and kept quiet.. Tropheus would be awesome, and go well with the other 2 suggested. Dubs are a good choice they are nice looking and cheap enough to get a good colony going. I would probably go with pemba or firefox, the bulus are pretty agro and would probably dominate the dubs pretty easily and also (IMO of course) the bulus are nowhere near as colourful, it really depends on what you like.
  4. Why not join and spread that knowledge and work around others, we may not be motivated to make $$s off it like you but there are alot of us wanting to see new species make it into the country and with your knowledge and people working together it may happen faster and with less work for you. I think you would probably feel different about the lack of progress if your house/livelihood was destroyed or you had lost a family member it is a pretty insensitive thing to say.. I would hardly call it an excuse.
  5. Talked to Matt the other day and he said that the fish had spat when he moved her so he chucked the eggs in a tumbler to see what would happen..
  6. lol it is only good stuff when I manage to breed and raise some Having a pair is just the first part of the battle now to choose the best male out of the 9 I have for her!
  7. They are in NZ and a few people have them but there is noone actively breeding them in any numbers, I am hoping to change that if I can get hold of some
  8. Yeah I think under the circumstances I think it is forgivable to not be concerned with this sort of thing.. Reef have you joined a club and got your tickets to conference to come and be involved?
  9. Eggs gone this morning but now I know I have a female I can move her and the best male into their own tank and try again.
  10. Looks like I have a girl after all.. This always happens after you give up and post something lol Yes they are eggs in the corner of the tank..
  11. Yeah I agree with Josh sometimes the GAEs work well, but I have seen photos of them hanging out of giraffes mouths before so depends on what type of africans he has really.. Failing that he can always try and address why he is getting too much algae. Ie is there too much light, too many nutrients in the water etc. I keep bristlenoses in my tanks and they reduce algae but I still have to get in the tanks every week or 2 and use some filter wool to get the worst of it off, I leave most of it because most africans are algae grazers so it has to be good for them.
  12. Bilbo lives in Bulls and I believe he has bred them recently
  13. Talk to Bilbo He might be able to help.. Although I will fight you for a girl..
  14. I am on my phone ATM so can't find the thread but someone started a thread after the sept quakes you should be able to find it using the search function..
  15. lol can I stand in line here! I kept 10 that I bred and looks like all are male There are 2 maybes but pretty sure they are males..
  16. Awesome, they must be loving the conditions you are keeping them in if they are laying that often, good luck with this lot.
  17. If you find any without the appropriate license then it is illegal and you have just been flagged by the powers that be as wanting them, also as being told that you need a license.. I cannot really see any appeal in these fish unless you want to brag to your mate that you have piranhas..
  18. Wow that is a terrible interview very unprofessional..
  19. You can get long scrapers with razors in them that have long handles that might do the trick..
  20. Does anyone have a link to the interview?
  21. No point doing a job that you hate it will just cause so many issues in your life, it is good that you are feeling relieved about leaving, now to find something that you enjoy doing. Good luck!
  22. I have youngsters not ready for sale yet.. If you have a pair then just breed some up, they are pretty easy

    Kribensis

There are thousands of different cichlids they all prefer different water conditions, rift lake african cichlids prefer a higher ph and harder water, while the river dwelling africans (like your kribs) prefer more neutral water. I to would remove the limestone and do a few water changes to try and bring the PH down, I don't think it will kill them providing you acclimatise them slowly but it is just not ideal for them.

    Kribensis

I would say that is a bit on the high side for kribensis and most community fish, what is causing it to be that high? And what other fish do you have?
  25. As soon as the post is up and running I can loan you and send down a box of heaters if they are still required by then..
