  1. electric blue (fryeri) are a no-go get too big and agro for a 3ft tank.. You could do some tangs maybe lelupi, pulcher or jullies?
  2. Get some demasoni as well then man a tank with just yellow's will get boring pretty quickly. I wouldn't try and do any zebra in a tank that small for that long but thats just me from what ive seen and read you might be lucky who knows.

    sad time

Stink Steve sorry to hear about it man.. got any interesting fish?
  4. Depends how much you like your other fish, zebra's are pretty nasty have had people get rid of zebras out of 6 foot tanks because they've taken over half of it.. But have also had people happily keep them in 3-4ft tanks its upto the fish I guess
  5. Might be alright, watch the cobalts as they get bigger though, my big male is one of the bosses in my 540litre tank... lol always a good bet to stick fish that stay small (like demasoni) in smaller tanks But they should be ok as a grow out tank..
  6. Yeah power is a killer man! I was having massive power bills thought it was the fish tanks sold a heap of fish to keep the wife happy power bill didn't change stuff all.. Realized recently it was the hot water cylinder.. Bugger I sold all my fish! You can help keep the power bill down by having good fitting lids, lining as many sides and even inside the hood with poly, you could even go as far as to having poly cut and stick it to the sides and front overnight as that would be when it is at its coldest..
  7. Angels will take out most if not all of the the babies.. You can do what I do and take the dad and babies and ornament out and float them in a vessel have created, mine is an old fridge vege bin that I drilled holes in the bottom but you could get away with anything really.. you could even have a go at taking the babies out of the ornament and sticking them in a guppy trap with an airstone
  8. They're not really my cup of tea.. But they are nice looking fish, when you coming out here?

Electric yellows.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=713 http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/l_caeruleus.ph You also got demasoni off me http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=849 http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/p_demasoni.php And maleri (hard to find exact profile and pic with variant but I sent you a pic of the dad.) http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1411
  10. Yeah its a good read as are most of the cichild-forum articles Can get lost on there reading..
  11. If you did want to bring it up a bit a bit of crushed oyster shell in your filter, lime stone in your tank or even a stocking of crushed coral or even coral bits and pieces would do, obviously just add little bits until you have achieved what you want.. However I think your on the right track not messing with it if your fish are happy
  12. I moved 17 tanks from Auckland to bulls, moved them with nzvan lines they thought I was ridiculous, only had one causality my 540litre display tank got chipped but they paid out alot of insurance to fix that one, most of the smaller tanks were bubble wrapped and all good, the main thing about a moving company is they will insure the tanks so no need to worry.. I moved all the livestock myself though they wont touch a tank or anything with water in it..

Be careful feeding them stuff for meat eaters as you can give them bloat and thats nasty.. It should be alright in moderation but demasoni are supposed to be vegetarians, yellows are probably growing faster because they were bigger to begin with
  14. yep no need for it.. come to think of it I dont use it on tap water either lol so im not help..
  15. It may work but the more aggressive eater/faster growing fish may grow faster and get big enough to eat the other babies.. Good luck and keep us posted..
  16. Those ships are big but light so no surprise a 30cm fish can move it.. Rocks are a different story..
  17. lol not the size of the limestone rocks that I have
  18. the limestone rocks I have are very porous too, they break apart very easily so much so im worried to just grab one side of the bigger ones when moving them because they might snap in half.. And yeah I stack mine almost 600high its a mission but as long as your careful it works.
  19. I use limestone rocks to get the PH up in my african tanks. You can also use river rocks which are cheap (free) if you can find them
  20. Blue rams seem to always die.. I have tried soo many times have had some nice bolivian rams though and not had any trouble with them
  21. All bristle noses have those bristles on the side that they stick out and get stuck in the nets..
  22. If the glass isn't straight and smooth it will create a weakness in it, I brought a tank once it would have been around 5 years old had a hood etc on it and plastic edges around the tops of the glass one morning woke up to the tank emptying on to the kitchen floor.. Couldn't figure out why until I took the top edges off and noticed there was a chip out of the glass where it broke it had been together for 5 years or so at a guess going sweet but for some reason it just broke.. If its rough I would try and smooth it out or get a new one cut even making sure its at the bottom would mean its less likely to flex but still not ideal..
  23. Agreed generally its frowned upon, stick to one type only in each tank so separate out one type and find mates for them and/or sell off the extra's..

Glad to hear the fish are all doing well man ive still got to get those microworms to you too.. Are they all growing well?
  25. You could make a stand out of whatever you wanted too, it would just have to be well made with enough strength to hold the weight and a nice flat base for the tank to sit on.. As for a tank I wouldn't go much higher than 600 high deep tanks are a pain in the bum to maintain and also require really thick glass, ring Peter for a quote for the tank he's always given me good prices when ive got stuff off him... Or watch trademe something might come up..
