  1. lol guess I haven't kept either so don't really know They looked a little like fryeri from the pics guess it was the angle or something who knows Wouldn't mind some azureus either though seems a shame to use them to breed the syno's either way would be cool
  2. Her boss might not know anything or care if shes making sales.. Keep on with her, theres people like that everywhere and it takes skill (or a fall) to deal with them.. Electric yellows can be kept in community tanks but only with large robust fish and I don't recommend it due to differing water requirements. Have heard all sorts of stories one that I remember is from a staff member in a shop in Auckland (one of the few who knew his stuff) he had a customer who kept loosing fish in his community tank and couldn't figure out what was doing the damage.. He was going through the list of fish neons and other tetra's a bristlenose etc etc, eventually he mentioned the last fish (the only one he hadn't mentioned because he had assumed for some reason it wouldn't be a problem) which was an auratus a fish known for destroying other africans! Cracked me up don't know how the person got that fish int he first place but someone should have asked questions. I know I always ask when people come out to get fish off me to see if they have the right sized tank or right tank mates and know what they're getting themselves into.
  3. Are they electra's or azures? Im hoping they breed for you man I haven't heard of anyone doing that in nz!
  4. Those are some very interesting pics! It would be awesome if they are doing what I think they are! Very cool fish! Is it just me or does your female fryeri have utaka spots?
  5. Retail prices in Auckland were very low for 10 neon's think it was around $18 when I was last up there.. Guess its all about competition and all that stuff, maybe they have a local breeder or just make less than the others. Think guppies are common feeders because they breed easier and faster than neon's..
  6. Ive always been on mains and don't use dechlorinator depends on how paranoid you are and I guess there is always a risk that there could be something in it. As for contacting your council again its upto you I haven't and just use the tap water but I could get caught out.. Mind you where I live people refuse to even drink the tap water because its apparently so filthy I don't care and just drink it but most of bulls wont lol
  7. kinda with the wings or rotors thing But I just sold my RC chopper as I hadn't had it out for over a year and couldn't be bothered buying all the parts I need to fix it up and spend hours setting it all up again lol And they're about as hard to fly as the real things too!
  8. Yep agreed I just use the water straight out of the tap and haven't had trouble.. Of course this is implying that you have contacted the council and found there is nothing nasty in your water and taking the gamble they don't suddenly add a heap of chlorine randomly (have heard of it happening). I lived in Auckland lived out in hobsonville and used the straight tap water too never had any trouble, if you did want to use dechlorinator then get the big bottle for ponds its soo economical even if you do decide to use it it wont break the bank like most of the other popular ones.. Cant remember the brand but can goto fish room and have a look and post it if you like..
  9. Nice fish and pic Congrats!
  10. lol bristlenoses are common as mud here, even the golden normal eyed ones are common now and the albino golden ones getting more common.. As for what cichlids are around please read the replies to your post you mad a few days ago asking the same question its pretty much an open ended question what type of fish does your friend like? How big is his tank and what does he hope to achieve?
  11. I dont know how many others saw it but 13 of these just sold for $338 on trademe If they're still on the list they would only be $260 retail..
  12. Sorry to hear about the neon's I have no experience with them have heard they are sensitive to light.. Did you remove all the dead babies and do a water change the barbs might not do very well with the pollution.. Hope some barbs make it.
  13. Yeah they do well in african tanks I had some in there at one stage, its a good way to add some red to an african tank as its hard to get a descent red in africans Oh and nice pics too
  14. Cool footage man Looks like fun! Also looks expensive, would love to do it but im only allowed one expensive hobby and thats fish!
  15. Im doing well with 12 I have thinned out a couple of males and added a few more females though.. I think ill have to keep some back and get a few more to add to my colony at some stage.
  16. Yup sure is man no point in mucking around with any less..
  17. Yeah I said chilumba/royal blue from the pic I have seen some more pics would help.
  18. They are agro but alright if you get enough of them
  19. 2ft would be suitable in the short term for a grow out but I wouldn't try and keep adults in it, have heard of people doing it but im not going to recommend it lol
  20. Your fish is a completely different shape to a fryeri man.. If your talking about the one you sent pics of to me that is..
  21. if you do change your mind dixon let me know ill happily ship some down to you.. Am having trouble breeding enough dem's for all the people that want them at the moment but can add you to the list if you do change your mind
  22. Yeah its a nice looking fish alright Fryeri are awesome fish alright my male is just starting to colour up nicely heres a pic of him, am hoping that the "female" I got with him is actually a girl and not a subdominant male..
  23. Dont worry about the protein its vege based so they can digest it.. That is the flake I got awesome stuff and real cheap but the green water turned me off it..
  24. I feed mine the sera for algae grazers... The also get shrimp crushed up de-shelled peas some random discus food the discus dont eat, white worms, and anything else I can find.. I have heard they are prone to bloat as are most africans that predominantly eat algae, which is why I only feed them non-algae based food once a week and the sera food the rest of the time, before I sera food I used cichlid spirilina sticks and they did well but I was using a big container a week lol The flake on trademe if its the same stuff I got is really good for the fish, however I had trouble with it making my tanks turn green (very high in phosphates) dont know if your looking at the same stuff I got but I dont use it because all my tanks were lime green and people looked at me like I didn't look after my fish lol
  25. Aussie seem to get alot more different fish we cant get here.. Our import list has just been cut back a heap which is a shame.. However naming a list of what cichlids are around would take too long as there are 100's of them, best bet would be to have a look at the allowed list if you can find it on the maf website.. Are you coming over to NZ or just curious?
