  1. Don't worry about clowns outgrowing that tank it would take them years and by that time they will have a higher resale value or you will be ready to upgrade tanks to get some bigger and better africans.. Cories are good cleaners but probably not so good with africans I have seen them with africans but they had ragged fins from being beaten up and some were one or none eye'd, you may get away with it with yellow's though but if you wanted to add any different more colourful africans you may have trouble..
  2. Just remember if you do buy clowns they are social and do better in groups of 3-4 plus they get alot more outgoing if you keep them in larger groups and school around the tank playing around. Also they will get white spot don't stress just keep an eye on it, I used to treat it with a little salt maybe 1T every 20L of water and if it was really bad (ie the fish were carrying it when you got them) I added a quarter mix of the wonder white spot med. Be careful because clown loaches have no scales (which is why they get white spot easily with stress) and some med's and salt can kill them. I found that even though the clown's got white spot it didn't get passed onto my africans at all probably because they weren't stressed. Good luck and post some pics once you've decided what your going to add
  3. Cooked spuds and carrots are also good to add My fish love it, but be warned it can be messy so don't feed too much and if your fish are used to pellets and flake they take a while to get the taste of the frozen food.. I find when I get a new fish who obviously hasn't had anything like it they just sit there looking at it for upto a week and get a bit skinny until they figure it out..
  4. I never had a problem with them and have seen them in quite a few african tanks, I also found rainbow fish a cool thing to add..
  5. Yeah food sucks its soo expensive and you can go through alot.. I make my homemade food use some shrimp, some pea's, lettuce, garlic and whatever other vege's I can find, all the vege's are cooked. While the vege's are cooking I blend up the frozen shrimp then drain the vege's and add them too, then blend it all up. The trick to keeping it together is adding gelatine to make it set and also not blending it to a pulp unless your feeding it to baby fish.. Once your done you can stick it to fish bags flatten it out and stick it in the freezer and just break off chunks stick them straight in your tank.
  6. I have successfully used clown loaches and bristlenoses in the past Or you can just add some more africans no food goes uneaten in most of my tanks..
  7. Hey man yeah im good new caledonia was wicked I went to the big public aquarium over there and took a few pics ive never seen so many huge tropical marine tanks and corals ever before ill put some pics up once I sort them out.. All my fish did well too only had minimal losses of baby fish but lost no adults so can breed more Glad to hear your fish are good let me know if you get a spare female peacock! Mine love NLS my wife used 150gms on my big tank in 3 weeks so they're all fat as and have all bred unfortunately because its a mixed tank I only save the demasoni and dolphins
  8. I remember some of those cakes you pictured from a certain cake making book my mum had She used to get us to go through it and choose cakes for our birthdays too.. However they never turned out that good they still tasted good I hope she enjoyed her cake and birthday!
  9. I left one untreated and the eye rotted out it was pretty nasty, I always catch them and stick some meth blue on it and stick them in a smaller tank with some salt.. Depends if you want to risk their eye
  10. Looking good man good luck with breeding them would be good as you say to spread them around
  11. Glad to hear these guys bred for you Chris, Doch im pretty sure yours were from the same batch so you should be seeign some action soonish
  12. They need to be mature before breeding it can take upto 4 years for them to grow up so be patient and keep them in good conditions a big tank clean water good food etc.
  13. Yep its good for them I feed them to mine all the time they love it
  14. That is pretty high, what type of fish are you keeping and are you having any problems with them? Peat would be the best and most cost effective way of trying to bring your ph down add it to your filter, that or you could add some driftwood etc.. Or just keep africans as your water would be awesome for them.
  15. I get it too but just scrape it off the front of the tank with a spare eftpos card, I think you may have to eliminate the light that is shining onto your tank as that is what is causing it, my bristlenoses don't seem to eat it maybe oto's or some other type would?
  16. I got 2 pairs of home bred blues and 2 pairs of homebred golds from Auckland now im left with 1f blue and 1m glod... The fish you are talking about are N Brichardi http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1601 nice fish I prefer and have N Pulcher http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=2247 they have a nicer yellow base colour instead of that silver.. They are cool fish and colony spawners as you may have noticed at wetpets seeing all the different sized ones defending the babies.. If you want to look at mine feel free to come over and say hi..
  17. Yeah they have a heap more of those ram's in there now I kept killing all of mine homebred or not.. Golds or blue's.. Who knows whats going on.. As for fish with character Africans have character move all your other fish out you could setup a nice little african tank with demasoni, yellow's and some peacocks it would be awesome Keyholes may work or they may scrap with your ram's they're pretty peaceful though. Kribs might be alright they're pretty nasty when spawning though and really common, otherwise you could go down the livebearer track you can get some nice swords, mollies and stuff?

    water change

Thanks man I try my best I don't see any point in breeding or selling crap and hate seeing people spend big money on sick or hybrid petshop fish.. I'm glad to hear they're all going well It is hard to see when they're all small but once they start growing and colouring up it all becomes worth it. How big are all the fish now? I did a 50% water change on my 540L tank today too and cleaned out the FX5 (2-3months with no clean out) all the fish look good
  19. Awesome id be keen for some at some stage might have to look into going for a drive sometime.. You should have given me a text I would have come out and spotted you some gas I know what its like my card did the same thing
  20. Happy easter to everyone from us here
  21. lol I hope you got me some too! Sounds like it would be fun!
  22. I think goldfish are commonly kept in high Ph's as sometimes the concrete ponds leach.. However it may have been ph shock leading to stress or something like that, were the fish aclimitized? Don't give up its not that hard, maybe clean our your tank and start again get someone local to come out and have a look at your setup see if they can see any problems and find a breeder who has some goldfish WCMM or even get a small heater and try tropical, buy from a breeder and goto their house and see their tanks gleen as much info as you can from them! Buying from a breeder or hobbiest means your more likely to get healthy stock because when your a beginner you don't really know what to look for in shops and can buy problems..
  23. I have never had one but found this when I was lokking at one HTH http://www.cichlid-forum.com/reviews/vi ... php?id=148
  24. That house is awesome! lol business is good What do you do for a job? I want to do that...
