  1. Good luck with getting your fish out and about it is frustrating thats for sure, and like you said it only takes one skittish fish and they all disappear, I have found that the position of tanks does this to fish I have one tank in my fishroom no matter how confident the fish is or how many fish I add the fish all hide, its right next to the door so maybe that has something to do with it.

lol thanks yeah I love the dem's I think they will get their own tank eventually and ill just leave them to it and pull the tank down a few time a year to pull out babies... The baenshi and jacob were similair in those pics there are differences now though I was a little worried when they first started colouring up, however they came from good sources so didn't really have anything to be concerned about.

    fish sick

Yeah it does sound a bit like that but you would definately notice stuff going on with the fish, if I were you I would do daily water changes and just see if the fish pick up.. You could also add some salt which is a semi natural type general cure all that may or maynot help it probably wont do any damage..

Are you 100% there is nothing wrong with them before they die? No clamped fin's, heavy breating swelling sticking out scales etc?

I don't think ive ever heard of a fish swimming around and then just dropping dead unless it was poisoned..

I use the end of a cheap bread knife but since I lost all them in my fishroom I have started using eftpos cards Anything thin and rigid works well.. And I tend not to use sharp things just in case I stuff up and stab the fish..

Yeah stripping fish is an art and can be hard especially on demasoni as they're pretty small but I am starting to get good at it now
  8. Thats weird that they're not out and about you have alot of fish in there, is the tank in a weird position like in sunlight or anything? Electra's would outgrow your tank they get big, I would have thought the cherry barbs would have done the trick are they out and about and happy? Sorry to hear about the WCMM's also, glad to hear the baenshi have breed breeding, are you going to strip or leave them be? Has the male coloured up at all yet?

What are your exact readings? Is this a newly setup tank? What other fish are in the tank and what size is it? Glad to see you made it over from trademe
  11. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1384 I think that is what they are implying they have basically a strain of jacob's that has alot of yellow in it Its a bit hard to tell because they would have been imported with no varient so you have to match them with photo's off the internet.. If your looking for a new jacob male I may have one for sale if I cant find the right females for him he just killed his girl So if anyone has fry or females from "Mekhaela's(afrikan)" strain of jacob's let me know.
  12. So did the impeller shaft break and then the motor die? Or is the impeller shaft just broken? Have you looked around the internet and seen if there are any options on getting parts from overseas for cheaper?
  13. Just add whatever african's tend to only get excited by other african cichlids or mouth brooders.. I just added any rainbow I could get to my tank when I did that and they were fine! Adds a bit of colour and something different too..
  14. Very nice looking tank and fish Its a shame to have had to pull a malawi tank down to do it lol id be hard pressed but the results are great those blues are awesome I hope someone has some luck breeding them.
  15. I would leave them all together just in case you mucked up the venting it can be hard.. But be very careful I have heard of males wiping out 2-3 females so 5 could kill her quite quickly.
  16. I have 14 african tanks setup 4 of them have full white sand substate I hardly ever suck the crap off the bottom and don't worry about the rocks etc.. Don't stress it wont affect the fish at all and it is avoidable, yes you can see it but it is easy to syphon out, if your worried about sucking up sand then suck it via a bucket and chuck the sand back in after your done.. Africans don't tend to leave too much uneaten food all my tanks have bristlenoses anyway so they take care of it I have never had any problems. Not a good idea to stack rocks on top of the substate in african tanks at all the fish will dig under it always move the gravel out of the way and stick the rocks directly on the bottom of the tank so if they do dig under the foundation for your rockwork doesn't give up.
  17. The may surprise you my baenshi's held successfully for their first go and she had 30odd babies in there Unfortunately I lost all the babies but hoping they will go again
  18. I have a pair in a 2ft tank with some swordtails and they're sweet as
  19. It should be evident by dominance and colour
  20. Baenshi are being bred in wellington Thats where my pair came from no need to Stress..
  21. Alot of the lake vic's are very very nice its a shame we cant get many here.. There are brown haps around which are awesome but people who have and breed them seem to be keeping a low profile.. Good luck on the tropheus
  22. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/bumble ... 29965.html from last time you asked.. "Males go jet black but there colour does change with mood males also get bigger and females stay smaller browner and keep the stripes.." Also google can be your friend on this question
  23. Yeah you could Callum on here breeds them
  24. I think unless they're under another tank the only neolamps allowed are Neolamprologus brichardi Lyretail lamprologus Neolamprologus leleupi Lemon cichlid Neolamprologus tretocephalus Five-Bar lamprologus
