  1. looks cool I have seen the mini-electric helo's with them on too Reminds me of some sort of dodgy stalker "I like to watch" thing lol Haha had a dodgy friend put a camera on a car once and drive it around uni hostels the chicks didn't really appreciate that How do the goggles work?
  2. Do they still look healthy and happy? Find out what they were eating at the petshop probably some sort of flake and try that, or if they're still looking healthy just persist and they will get hungry and eat eventually
  3. Yeah I often wonder why we cant import from Aussie? I wonder if there are actually enough fish bred in Ausse for them to be exported or are they mainly an importer like NZ?
  4. Yeah I think the whole 10-12week wait thing is interesting, I can see their point they want the tank free'd up and want buyers ready to go. As a buyer I wouldn't pay a cent until I had the fish though, and also think the seller may find it difficult to track people down after a few month's as people change their mind etc.. I think the whole german ram versus chinese ram thing is them referring to bolivian/blue ram's some people confuse the 2 and call all blues "german blue ram" and bolivian's chinese rams.. Bilbo on here sells some nice ram's that his brother bred and he is also breeding some nice ones himself pm him if you want some ive had some for a few month's now and they're awesome
  5. I think the imported ones from asian fish farms don't last long something to do with being hormone fed, however if you lucky enough to get a pair of them that breed before they cark it (some are also lucky enough the parents live) the babies should be fine provided they are fed on a varied normal diet..
  6. Id say you'd get away with a 3ft or 4ft tank.. Your 75cm tank should be ok for the time being but once they start getting bigger would be overcrowded.. If you have them in a smaller tank you can do water changes more often to reduce waste build up and have descent filtration.. As for a usual growth rate that depends on so much it is impossible to say what is normal and what is not, if you want them to grow fast the best you can do is do heaps of water changes and feed them heaps of descent food..
  7. Cool glad to see you have found a dog after the problems with the others As for a name.. Im sure something will come up
  8. I have these as well but was assured by the shop the males were infertile no matter how awesome they looked Have got a normal male to cross with the them and then try and cross back to get some that look good in the future Both females came "inpregnated" so who knows what the babies will come out like..
  9. Get the glass and make the tank yourself! lol You should be able to get a 5ft for $200 even down there just keep your ears and ears out.. Hate to say it but you probably should never have this fish unless you have the right sized tank or the ability to upgrade im glad your motivated to do it while the fish are young
  10. The peacocks are a give in.. All mbuna will cross breed given half a chance (ie being put in the same tank) the most likely are the auratus and johannii (same family), and the red zebs, cobalts, ice blues again same family Basically mbuna are mongrouls if you have a big male he will try and breed with all and any females he can.. Best idea is to setup one breeding tank and one grow out tank (divided if needed to house different generations..) that way you know whats up..
  11. Agree with all the advice go hard on insulation BEFORE you stick tanks in.. Find some descent suitable covering for the floor mine is all concrete and its always cold now theres tanks and stands in there its a bloody mission to get them all out and put something on the floor Work on a good layout for your tanks and hopefully get standard sized tanks and get a descent stand welded up 3 tanks high (with enough room to get into the tanks) so you can fit more tanks in.. lol bilbo what happened to your key? I hope it wasn't locked!
  12. I would go with the 100L 32L is really only good for a few month's it is very easy for waste to build up and fish to stop growing.. The hybrids are my only concern but you have some awesome fish, that ice blue is a beauty and very nice pic's lol I regret getting rid of mine until I think of the terror they caused in my tank To check if they're pure I would be growing them till at least 4-5cm's.. If you were considering a 100L tank as an extra I would recommend removing one species of fish to it, breed a few batch's stick them in the 32L tank, remove another batch of fish breed them in the 100L then stick them in the 32L tank then transfer all babies to the 100L to grow out then your guarantee'd they're pure
  13. All of the above fish will cross breed However crosses will be very obvious if you grow them up until they start showing colour, if they don't colour up like the parents just dispose of them.. Obviously your tank isn't an ideal setup for trying to breed but if you grew them out and were ruthless with any crosses then it would work Those red tops look awesome it would be great if you bred some pure ones of them and passed them around..
  14. Females should cope just fine if they have somewhere to hide just keep an eye on them, also watch their condition some of them struggle to pick it back up after holding full term.. My main concern will be hybrids.. Your peacocks will crossbreed (also where did you get "hueseri Mid night Peacock's" from?) All your mbuna will also cross breed and produce hybrids so yes you will have babies survive probably not many but they will be hybrids so probably not worth having survive..
  15. lol yeah I wasn't implying there was no reason to go and visit if there was only one tank at someones house just alot of these welly people have large fishrooms and lots of tanks and when they ask how many tanks etc I was thinking that might be what they were meaning Hopefully he wont mind me posting this but Bilbo keeps all sorts but mainly dwarf cichlids
  16. lol not something you really want to breed and pass around Unfortunately I haven't met many with heaps of tanks around here, myself and Win are the only ones ive met with fishrooms filled with tanks, I am sure there are closet fisho's around here somewhere just haven't found them yet
  17. Definately get one of those "springless" ones with the high net around the outside, im sure we all remember as kids seeing someone or evern ourselves getting caught in the springs lol
  18. Yeah the red hump geo's were in the country Glad you still have yours afrikan there was a guy in Auckland off here breeding heaps of them..
  19. That fish looks pretty sick I don't know what has got to it but I would at the very least remove it from the tank and with how sick it looks I would cull it put it out of its misery I cant see it coming back from there..
  20. Oh another one to keep them happy would be to get a tank thats big enough for them to have their own space and the other fish to have enough room out of that space to be happy and get away
  21. Generally pairs of cichlids are agressive and terriotorial.. Its just part of the package, they claim a certain amount of space as their's to breed in and live in its just nature.. All other fish of the same type are a threat and rivals (even their own babies once they reach a certain size). The only ways I can see for harmony is to seperate your pair or keep them in their own tank so they can have it all to themselves. Hope that helps and im glad you have bred them they are cool fish
  22. That is an nzpost one.. Well they always seem to start with WK and end with NZ when we ship fish.. Heres the site but your number doesn't seem to work.. http://www.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/ ... kAndTrace/
  23. Alas I am out of the country so will only have 3 tanks running, and a little bit our of Palmy when this tank crawl is on Hope it all goes well!
  24. You only need to boil it if your worried about it containing any bugs or leaching anything that could kill the fish.. If its already been used in a tank (and that tank didn't have any disease problems) then just chuck it in it will be sweet..
  25. Just another consideration how big is your tank and how big are the fish? Maybe he's just chasing everyone around because the tank is too small for them to all have their own space, zebra's can be nasty and claim alot of space at times..
