  1. My main concern is how big is that tank? Keyholes are relatively peaceful and afra are known to be quite agro, I haven't had problems with giraffes yet but they are known to get big and can pack a punch I doubt a keyhole would be robost or fast enough to get out of the way..
  2. I breed and keep all sorts.. Heres a post I made on my tank most of these fish I have/will breed in the future (obviously take them out and breed them seperatly).. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/my-tank--vt31753.html
  3. I still have a few jebo heaters that work well I used to buy them for $20 for a 300W heater lol took a few back within a year and got them replaced but they seemed to stop going rather than jam on which was good, I do think ultimately you get what you pay for and would probably go with jagar from now on Anyway back on topic Sorry to hear about your male mitzy let me know if you want to borrow my one while im away and good luck with the babies sounds like they're a hardy bunch I had some blue rams go to 34 and then back to 15 in the same day and make it so they should be ok
  4. Good work I have finally managed to get a batch free swimming after always loosing them a few days after they hatched, gutted im going to be overseas for the next 3 months though
  5. Oh well tell him im sure that old John boy would love that look on him
  6. Awesome so it doesn't need a relay was unsure how those things worked On another note where did you get them from they would be ideal for my fishroom lol
  7. Cool sounds good Some fish can be dammed hard to catch a close up of with a camera thats for sure.. And that article is a beautie certainly sums it up have seen the question asked a few times myself
  8. lol while the tangs are nice wheres the photo's of the polystigs
  9. Looks like the only 2 spare wires goto the bulb, the thermostat should switch off the power to the bulb. I think that thermostat used those 2 wires to switch a relay I am unsure how they would work but the stuff in that box looks pretty low power to me so would assume you need a relay.. It would be pretty easy to test if you had a multimeter?
  10. I have just stopped breeding because im going overseas but will be up and running again in 3-5months when I am back.. What are you looking for malawi wise - peacocks, haps, mbuna? Be very cafeful buying from petshops sight unseen, I haven't been to hollywoods for a long time but there fish only come from the wholesale list and who knows what your getting if you've paid for them including shipping you can't exactly send them back if they're dodgy crosses or sick.. I saw on tradme the other day someone selling a pair of johannii, the male wasn't johannii and the female was a red zebra they came from hollywoods as a pair of johannii
  11. Hey Stella I thought I posted on the first page lol I will be out of the country and my fishroom is all but empty at the moment have all the fish inside in divided holding tanks so nothing to see here sorry Sounds like it will be a good day though, im sure PEte can rouse up some people
  12. Have you got anymore photo's? These guys almost look so ugly they could be cool Would like to see an id on them and see if they could be bred and passed around seem like a bit of an oddball..
  13. Awesome pics and fish as always
  14. I think the shop owner was being a nice guy and helping out a poor child who had lost his beloved pet
  15. lol thats a goodie I always have and always will float bags, and have never had any imediate losses, if the bag did leach toxic stuff I would say it would be pretty instant and would also have some affect on other fish, I doubt they would make fish bags from something that leaches chemicals just doesn't make sense to me, sounds like a petshop telling porkies again
  16. Remember that alot of those pumps output reduces an awful lot at height.. The rated headheight you are quoting is the max the pump will pump any water at all you will find most pumps only pumping 1/4 or a 1/3rd of their actual rated output at that height.. Ask the seller for the output graph or google the pump numbers and you should find one. Your tank is only going to have around 500L of water in it taking into account rocks etc so have you considered a canister? lol I guess that is down to personal preference and how the tank is setup etc.
  17. THey have some beauties in wetpets display tank Awesome looking tank, I take it Mekhaela managed to get you some after all?
  18. There is no reason why you cant add some coral sand or argonnite as well as the silica sand it would mean you have to buy less of the expensive stuff and would mix with it relatively well
  19. I thought it was neutral too but others have claimed it isn't I guess the actual definition of silica sand may have been distorted worldwide? I have a bag here that I will use in a tank eventually and test it out see what happens, thinking it was inert I was going to use it in a planted community tank (thought the white substrate would look different with plants) with dwarf cichlids etc but now that it may not be might leave it until ive done some research.. Yep thur/fri might suit send me a pm to arrange it there won't be many tanks running only 4-5 if my condensing goes to plan...
  20. Looking good man If you wanted to call through and see my tanks you could this week but not this weekend.. Have you decided on a stocking list yet? I just sold the last of the fish that will be sold until im back but should be some for sale when I am back
  21. Agreed with the above.. I have the same fish up here and the male is coloured up at around 7-8cm's so you should be able to see some blue in his face etc at the size of yours, white dorsal edge or dorsal extentions should be a give in.. If you want you can vent but its probably not that important in your case and can take experience to vent younger fish..
  22. That will run on vista and is good for making a montage of photo's and putting them to music with different effects etc.. Also must be relatively easy to use don't really want something that takes days to get used to actually using before you can do anything with it.. Cheers
  23. Glad you got a heater those jagar 300W's are huge aye its awesome.. On your power board tripping out, most of them are rated to 10amps which means you can stick 2300W worth of stuff plugged into them and going at the same time.. Are you running alot of other stuff off that powerboard as well was it the powerboard or house fuse/cb that tripped?
  24. And here is mine.. The flash makes his blue look brighter than it is.. Emerging from the darkness, he has a full white blaze that developed with age which I think is cool
