As most of you know my Husband Ryan is away overseas on deployment.. I am looking after his fish I know nothing and earlier today i found his big tank full of Africans all up at the surface gasping for air..I have done 3 water changes and that helped for a bit but they are doing it again.. I don't know what to do I'm panicking and I don't have alot of time to spare with a sick baby I need help desperately or they will all die.. I think I have a couple of hours before they do.. Please help me?

I'm pretty sure that firenzenz is well aware of those links as he has referred to them already I think what he was asking for wasn't a list of peacock species but what you would consider to be the sc name for the fish in his list if you were just given those common names to have a discussion on it..
-
Excuse the spelling.. 1. red shoulder peacock - A. hansbaenschi (or stuartgranti with various locations) 2.blue peacock - Maybe royal blue hansbaenschi 3.lemon jake - A. jacobfreibergi 4.sunshine - A. Baenshi 5.firebird - A. Rubenscen's 6.Blue orchid A. kandeense (or could be hybrid this is what ive heard they might be) 7.ruby red - A. Rubenscen's 8.German Red - A. Rubenscen's 8.Gold Hybrid - Maybe dragons blood but hybrid so no sc name. 9.Rubenscens A. Rubenscen's 10. Yellow peacock A. Baenshi Any of the Ruben's could be stuartgranti maleri as they're the same thing or some sort of red hybrid hard to say without knowing more info but that would be roughly what I would put them as. Same with 2 yellow's could be baenshi or even a yellow stuartgranti maleri or hybrid hard to say again.. Depends on where they come from what they look like and what info if any the importer or seller can provide.. Common names are very confusing and it seems that is what are popping up on alot of wholesale lists bizare when they have to be imported with a sc name to be on the allowed list?

Help Livingart Wildlife Park (Tauranga)-DREAMS DO COME TRUE!
ryanjury replied to Lucid's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Hey Livingart ive only really just stumbled upon this and had to say im really sorry to hear about this happening to you guys, I know you put alot into your animals and alot into this forums and the people on here who can always rely on you for help even to the point of donating things to people and doing things for no gain on your behalf.. Its a real shame that this has to happen to one of the good ones out there. I cant really offer any help or even suggestions but can only say that im thinking and feeling for you guys and hope that it works out for you and your family and all the animals at the park and also say that im gutted I didn't get a chance to visit and show support.. If there is anything I can do let me know probably a little bit limited given the time frame and the fact im still overseas but you never know.. -
Personally I would say unless your divide your tank its not big enough for a pair of each... Maybe fully planted it might work, I am unfamilair with eunotus's temperment but if you got one agro fish or a pair bred it is likely the other pair would be injured or at least bullied into submission all day..

lol what dixon said Appistogramma is the family name and cockatoo's are one type of appisto.. They can be kept with all sorts best you list the tank size you have and what your planning to keep them with.. Are they delicate? Yes they can be more so the recent imports, some of us on here were lucky enough to get some really good ones off a local breeder that were crossed back to wild and they have prooved very hardy I had some fry survive for 2 weeks in an unheated tank with no food because I thought they had all been eaten..

Should be fine everything in moderation, but what type of africans are you talking about most the different groups or species have different dietry requirements..

Who is 'Tough Tanks' and why are they sending me spam?
ryanjury replied to tinytawnykitten's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
They have probably been saving the email addresses of everyone who deals with them and obviously thought that was worthy of passing onto other people.. It has happened to me before getting these random emails from fish people if you don't want to be on their list just email them and tell them to take your email off or just flag it as spam.. -
That is what happens to mine before they die I have no idea what causes it but have had no luck treating it with metro or prazi or salt or water changes.. Does she have any white things on her head?

Hey everyone finally have internet access and have the energy to post.. Just sitting in our airconditioned room the aircon's set to 23 and its nice, outside is probably still around 25ish at 8pm so its nice and warm, hows the nz winter treating everyone? I'm getting a wicked tan.. Anyway things are good here and on a fishy note, we have pet native turtles and im in charge of looking after them, the previous rotations have done a wicked job of making them an enclosure with pond etc.. Apparently the native kids were chucking them over the fences for a laugh during the wet season so they got saved. Anyway ill post updates as I can

If it is all white and fuzzy then I would use meth blue directly on the fungus daily/twice/three (depends how much time you have and how easy they are to catch) daily and it should clear it up.. Hope all goes well!

lol I have no idea what goodies there are to be found Seems there is a line already start the bidding..
-
Thanks African and everyone else for your kind words.. Unfortunately for some we will still have internet access there and you might not get rid of me that easily so will try and keep in touch with people on here and maybe some photo's if we see anything interesting over there.. Supasi would have loved to catch up, however my wife and I agreed that we were going around to see bilbo and co and not disappear into the fishroom with beers for a few hours.. Sure enough I showed up and ended up in the fishroom lol Bilbo came over today and helped me sort out some tanks so very grateful for his help have been procrastinating but things are almost sorted.

Yep def demasoni, brichardi and litho male.. Last pic I am not convinced of ice blue female it could be but would need more pic's they not usually show that much barring but could at a random point in time.. The other zebra, who knows? As afrikan said it depends if it came from a breeder or petshop most likely hybrid maybe aurora but ive never kept them (maybe johannes can help here).. Mix isn't all bad I currently keep my pulchers and jullies in my big african display tank here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/my-tank--vt31753.html they probably get picked on the least because they small and so much different to the other fish they don't see them as a threat. They are at a long term risk of becoming front/giraffe food but will be removed before then.

I know these have been posted before but reposting them was easier than finding and bumping the other thread back up.. Jewel of the rift.. There are 4 parts they are easy to find.. http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=wonYRF4e4sI http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=1bb7q3L7u ... re=related http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=fOMrfS2sk ... re=related Enjoy

Mine never got free swimming.. They either shot up and hung around the top.. Or stayed around the bottom and swum into the water in small jerky movements but always settled on the bottom, then all died? The same as I have had with the last 8 or so batches.. I hope you have more luck.. My male gold is going out on stud duties to a local breeder who seems to be able to produce blue rams by the 1000 so hopefully things work out there would love to see more golds around..

If fish made disaster movies would this tank be it?
ryanjury replied to Captain Conkout's topic in Freshwater
Yeah for sure maybe he is one that has only had contact with LFS info, which we all know can be dodgy and as a beginner didn't get lucky enough to talk to the only person who knew what he/she was doing? Or he could have just brought his cichlids off someone who didn't give him advice on stocking etc? Bottom line is this person is quite right in saying there is no problem at the moment and they are correct the fish and tank look great. It is the next buyer who may run into the problems. As a young fella I bred and kept firemouths in a 2ft community tank on petshop advice No fish died but it was close.. After doing some research I got a bigger tank for them.. -

Yeah for sure they may have had bad advice and after all it is working for them so why should they listen -

I noticed this the other day but didn't want to post.. The cichlids will be a problem basically because they will grow big enough to eat the others lol.. And afra/convicts can be nasty.. Should be no problem with the gba's and normals x breeding the cichlids should clean them out, however in a tank that size with hidey holes it is likely some would survive.. End of the day its common its a shame that if the person who buys it (if it sells at that price) will be getting setup for a fall if they don't know what they're doing and it may rip their heart out.. -
Your giraffes are passive because they're little babies They get to 10"+ and once they mature all hell may break loose personally I don't think its a good stocking list but only time will tell maybe it will work maybe it wont..
