  1. The fry will eat anything crushed up flake BBS decap brineshrimp etc.. They are hardy as.. You could move the parents to a 3ft by themselves and they would probably be fine, just watch the aggression between the pair as casper says sometimes they need other fish to beat up but I haven't usually found this is a problem. For a short term fix you could get a divider cut/make one out of something to keep the other fish safe..

    hi there!

Hi and welcome We used to live in Hobby too before we got posted down here, its a shame were not still up there could have helped you out.. Unfortunately its a learning curve with fish, and most of us have lost tanks full of fish and thought about giving it all up, but as long as we learn from our mistakes we can only go forwards.. And being on this forum also helps you learn from the mistakes of others and get good advice (be very wary of fish shop advice sales people are there for one reason - to make a sale..). If you post the specs of your tank (size filtration etc) then people may be able to give you advice. Good luck
  3. Where did your peacock come from Tiden? he looks awesome.. And loving the Johannii too are your females all that gold? I have one thats a muddy gold and one thats bright bright gold yours looks awesome!
  4. Hi and welcome A guy on here (discusguru) imported a whole heap of fighters from Malaysia rather than going through the time/cost/risk of doing it yourself maybe you can pm him and see what he has he might already have what your after and he's a great guy too very helpful http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/my-col ... 23537.html
  5. lol me too Livingart, I would be happy just to raise this batch, I have 4 spawns between the gold pairs that I had but didn't raise one baby, they always hatched but died soon after, then I lost them all except for the male that is breeding.. I don't know if they are weaker and harder to raise or if I just screwed up every time.. Only time will tell I guess they are in a bowl in the heated fishroom with an airstone and meth blue, this male has had egg's hatch before so there shouldn't be any fertility issues.. I am hoping to get some golds in the first batch lol but like you said its all luck and at the very least maybe ill produce some nice strong blues that are gold gene carriers Mitzy good luck with yours! What did you do wrong with your spawn?
  6. If your left with one fish that you want to continue or develop sometimes you have no other option but to cross it with other colours and cross back its called line breeding livingart I am hoping they will be stronger have had a nightmare keeping them alive.. I am thinking if the gold gene is recessive then all of the spawn will be blues but gold carriers? And I need to cross one of these back to the dad or 2 of these together to get any golds at all? LOL that is assuming I can raise any babies..
  7. Have ran this by several breeders and they all agree it is fine.. I am also hoping that with the blue and gold gene pulls being so far away (I am assuming) that the resulting babies should be alot hardier than inbred ones..
  8. Would you breed a red with a blue strain of guppy? Or a blue discus with a red one? Gold rams are just a random colour variety bred out of blue's so no hybrids are created Chances are all of their babies will turn out blue but carry the gold gene (unless the female is also a gold carrier).. And I will have to breed back to get the gold to come out.. I'm sure you know that I am very against hybrid fish being created and/or sold.. If anything random occurs with this I will get rid of all the babies and breed the blues true.
  9. All beautiful fish And you know how it goes Mekhaela I am only happy to help you out the number of descent fish ive got off you over the years lol and then you become backup to me if I ever kill mine.. It all works well!
  10. lol your getting some back this weekend
  11. lol well im stealing the eggs soon.. Theres too many fish in that tank for them to have any chance hopefully I have some luck this time.. Makhaela once I get some raised ill make sure I get some to you so that when I kill them all you have back up lol
  12. Johannii Male Johannii Female Young Jacob's Young Baenshi Male Fryeri Female fryeri holding Dragons blood male Ob zebra Red Zebra Maleri Male Demasoni Ice blue Red shoulder Lol thats all I have uploaded at the moment Awesome pics everyone
  13. After loosing all my golds I was only left with the best long fin male.. So I got some blue ram's and he has finally paired with a female and they have laid.. I am hoping to produce some more golds long finned golds and hopefully long finned blues from these 2 and their offspring.. Only time will tell if I can actually raise the babies! Heres some pics..
  14. Man ive never seen a litho that looks like that.. How old/big is he? Firenzenz yours is awesome..
  15. lol they almost look cute.. Little devils in disguise
  16. Awesome funny enough mine spawned this morning too I tried to get a vid but couldn't Congrats on them Mekhaela, I don't know if you know but you have to catch them very fast and stick them straight into a bucket no mucking around as they spit as soon as they're startled and ive had a few batches get released in the main tank..
  17. I don't think the others would have eaten all of them when they're that small.. I would probably go with afrikans suggestion, bigger fish have an ability to suck smaller fish through holes they wouldn't normally fit
  18. Awesome man they look great Congrats.. haha Will have to come out and see them in a few weeks when they're running around and being fun.. Luckily we already have our 2 dogs as boxer or rottie would have been next..
  19. Yeah I cant wait to get them Hopefully I have the same luck as you with breeding them... They're cool fish I have a male in my display tank, he didn't grow very fast at all, dem's/yellows would have outgrown him.. Maybe it was just him or he was stunted or something.. Because of them being haps they probably need a reasonably sized tank once getting bigger 4ft+..
  20. Awesome man, are the red zeb's red.. Or orange.. Would love to get my hands on some red red zeb's.. Good work on the yellows also its getting hard to find descent ones..
  21. I brought them as normal guppies off someone off here.. Unfortunately no females Would these guys be any good to you for your breeding?
  22. cezarz are these elder or elder like guppies? Sorry for the crappy pics I thought i was pretty good at taking them until I tried to get those little guppies!
  23. Agreed with all of the above, it depends on the type of fish as well.. If the fish is different to all the others in your tank you might get away with adding it at feeding time however its a big risk and as you said the fish can turn very fast.. Otherwise its the mission of removing all rocks an introducing the fish (as livingart said a few at a time is always preferable as it stirs things up a bit more) lol You never mentioned what you had aquired
  24. You can syphon them into a tank filled with water from their tank, but only when they're small and cant swim well or aren't too big to be munched by the syphon hose. How old are these fish? They would probably be fine to move on at 2cmish but you won't get much for them and will be limited as people will have to grow them out before adding them to tanks with larger fish.. I strip and move my africans at 2weeks and have very minimal losses I have found africans to be extremly hardy, have even stripped fish straight out of their parents mouths that aren't even swimming bagged them and left them bagged for 2 hours taken them home and had no losses...
  25. Looking good. Thanks for sharing Good idea to keep them going we have lost soo many species in NZ due to our own ignorance..
