  1. what site are you thinking to buy from? have you rung hollywood to get a price on the light you want? i personally shipped a light from oversea about 10kg in weight, costed me $80nz and that was sea shipping, the slowest and cheapest option there is...takes about 2 months to get here.
  2. sometimes buying from overseas works and sometimes it doesnt low nz$ doesnt help when buying from overseas shipping can cost as much as the unit due to size and weight and you will be paying shipping in their currency you might get hit with tax's when entering the country..ie import tax, GST... no warranty on the unit if it breaks
  3. man rough neighborhood i would dose with 0.1% salt which is 1gram per litre and up the water changes
  4. PC= power compact, i've never used them before people use these on planted tanks and also saltwater tanks
  5. Giesemann has some sexy lights too....their paint job on their lights are amazing but once again they cost some mega $$
  6. T5 has better light spread and you can get better colours by mixing and matching tubes MH is still awesome but with an odd size tank like this, a single MH doesnt seem enough....
  7. woah ADA!! never tried ADA since they are $$$ plus more $$ shipping one over also the grand solar 2 runs PC tubes.....i rather stick to T5's and MH
  8. i've used both before and i got better growth with the glo unit but the arcadia looked sooo much better the arcadia doesnt seem as bright, maybe cause of the reflector plus a 90cm unit is like $1000 vs the glo which is about $190 per unit i would love to try the new OT2 but its order only from overseas
  9. lol everyone tells me i'm crazy for having a fish tank that doesnt have any fish
  10. good luck finding a light unit the Arcadia series 3 T5 unit looks great but doesnt perform that well for the price.....the current Arcadia OT2 unit looks freakin awesome but it will come with a very very high price tag the glo stuff works very well but the look of the unit isnt very sexy and if you want 4 T5's you will have to get 2 units
  11. update theses were taken 2 weeks ago before i trimmed the glosso back
  12. they are not very good heaters at all i have the C25 (rated for 26deg for a 25litre tank) on my 20-23litre tank, room temp of about 15-16deg and it only heats to 22deg max
  13. cant wait for the progress btw sand does whatever it wants when you add water....a real pain to work with...fine gravel is alot better
  14. nice jar matt post up some more photos
  15. the ADA stuff is awesome, i know friends that use it overseas and i have seen for myself how well plants grow with it..but i like p44 said i'll doubt MAF will let you bring it in and its pretty ching ching stuff, i think its like $40aus for 2litres plus shipping IF you are allow it in i have tried using peat, plants do grow well BUT your water is always going to turn a brown colour...good if you want a biotope look lol
  16. yes you can add another juwel T5 light bar to your tank, so you will have 4xT5 but its not cheap i asked about it before and i think it was like $300 for a vision 450, plus you have to add the 3 piece lid set and juwel T5 tubes...i think it would be cheaper to ditch the juwel light completely and get a MH unit
  17. the RTG and violet fusion were imported by bob not sure how many he imported and what else he got....wish he would bring some in now the other 2 reds were import from up north
  18. no problems but can only show you 2 out of the 4 violet fusion red is @ redwoods VIP red @ private collector.....as you know RTG was sold, not sure where or who too....regret not buying it!! 1.5 red RIP as you also know
  19. nothing much down here....most shops dont even carry a plain silver here...guess there is no market for them as for the others, jars are becoming more available but not sure if those shops will carry them all the time asian aro are super rare, only ever seen 4 in CHCH. redwood's red violet fusion, RTG, 1.5 red and a VIP red
  20. juwel tanks are great BUT do keep your receipt for warranty the problems are always the powerhead that powers the filter craps out and the heaters are not very accurate or wont heat over 26deg some of the newer models do have dual lighting which means 4xT5 instead of 2xT5 but you can always upgrade lighting very easily later also......i think they could be some new juwel tanks coming out, i know they release info on their new nano tank called Vio 40 and they have a new skimmer which they says will fit the new tanks
  21. emersed is very easy to grow, we had some in a semi shaded area outside in the frog tank and it grew like mad submersed grow isnt hard either and with the amount of light you have it should carpet in about a month or so
  22. oh no not algae! hope it goes away for you running a arcadia single 150MH once i archives what i wanted the fun is gone and i want to start something new the 150MH bulb is a 10k colour i'm not using a heater, my fish room sits about 20deg and when the light comes on the water temp gets to about 24deg the light is on for 9 hours a day and co2 is @ one bubble a sec but will be going up to about 2-3bubbles a sec when the glosso settles in loaches are all gone now and so are the discus.....i had too many fish and fish tanks so i only keeped my must haves which are my aro tanks and my reef tank
  23. thanks sam....how is your rimless going?
  24. lol yes P44 it will be getting ripped down in a few months time lol!!.....next layout will be a blackwater biotope the tank is 75x45x45 but i made the stand taller than the original ada stand as i wanted it at eye level when standing up plus i need it to match the height of my other tank in the room
  25. just glosso at the moment, i'm going to wait for it to grow out then see what other plants to plant
