  1. my ADA 75-P inspired tank
  2. use a PH controller or test your PH and KH and use this site to workout how much co2 is in your tank http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_co2chart.htm you can also get co2 drop tester which will monitor the amount of co2 in your tank....with a press co2 system you can easily add too much co2 which will harm your fish
  3. haha i was thinking that alan...easy money
  4. from what i read online the ADA substrates are amazing plus the mini m is only 26cm high, so thats why energy saving bulb is enough
  5. light is a very important part but if do have high light you will need pressurized co2 and also daily ferts, that is why i say its a balance T5 are very good BUT they do cost alot, my new setup(114litre) i have a 125w Arcadia MH which isnt enough plus i the K rating is too low, so i will be upgrading to a more powerful light and a better bulb
  6. the pic is on my home computer, will email you later tonight no pic at the moment i'm not sure if i will continue that tank....the tank i used was a old sump which the glass is abit yucky and very scratched....not very nice looking
  7. p44, i started with the standard juwel 2x24w lighting with DIY co2....growth was very good for a basic low cost setup but it wasnt dense growth so i added 2x24w power glo's and pressurized co2....after that the tank grew wild and i shut it down lol the lido is now a marine reef tank and i have just started last week a rimless/braceless ADA style tank hehe Zev....pic is all yours, pm me your email address if you want the original full size pic
  8. all about balance of ferts, light, co2 started like this about 2 months later
  9. HAD a few fx5's......now i run a few 2080/2180's hands down eheim wins
  10. growth rate is pretty quick if you have the right conditions grows very well in sand at least 1 watt per litre if you want a carpet effect carpets alot better and greener with liquid ferts like flourish, flourish excel....you will also need some type of substrate fert if you want it to carpet alan on the forum might have some or there is a guy in chch that sells it on trademe also co2 is a must for this plant....
  11. bob @ redwood was the cheapest a month ago, friend picked up a black rio 400 tank and stand for $1999....i think he might still have some available otherwise have you try john @ organism? i also remember seeing one at petworld ferry road, cant remember the price i would suggest you use a station wagon or a 7 seater that can fold its seats down flat, you have to remember that the stand comes in a pretty big box too
  12. *puts flame suit on* eheim are always better IMO, better media, build quality, Power consumption and always super quiet i have used nearly every model of fluval external filter there is and one thing that seems to always break is the impeller cover
  13. smallest i would go for a silver aro would be 6x2.5x2 (LxWxH)
  14. the new nano has a video camera but Not a still picture taking camera and the camera is in a very odd place
  15. i saw some at animates papanui today, $30each very cool looking
  16. tanks are going well thanks
  17. i didnt want to slap you in the face lol.....i have used most of the older fluval and all the current series and i'm just not a big fan of them let see how much this new filter will cost and how much the replacement cartridges are
  18. lol good luck with crushing the pro 3.....fluval always have a very cheap plastic feel to them compared to eheim oh anything black and shinny always attracts dust and fingerprints
  19. for those that likes new and shinny things, fluval has released a new filter http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/p ... ?news=2219 looks like a marketing gimmick to me and would probably cost a fortune to run with replacing the cartridges
  20. ooooh my power bill is big enough without needing to add to it thanks for all the advise
  21. anyone here run a UPS on there fish tank? is there a certain brand/model to get or is there a guide for UPS for fish tanks? thanks
