  1. only the best will do for my fish....my life stock is worth more than all my equipment put together my 2080/2180 crew http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y235/e ... C02299.jpg
  2. thanks for all the advise guys trademe doesnt seem to have much, seems like bunnings is the only place in chch
  3. normal eheim filters are the best on the market and i highly recommend them
  4. eheim thermo are not that great, my 2180 had to be replaced just after 1 year and i know someone else that had the same problem pro 2 thermo like 2128 are even worst, the external probe needs to be replaced often 2180 are not cheap either, about $1500 i think with media
  5. yes it will only be used for emergency, i worked out a 2kw will be enough to run my essential tanks....higher kw would be nice but the price will go up what other places should i check out? bunnings was $600 for a 2kw and $800 for a 2.5kw
  6. i'm wanting to buy a 4-stroke petrol generator, is there certain things i should look for? i went to bunnings and thinking to get the 2kw or 2.5kw ones...but they seem to only stock one brand which i'm not sure if they are any good what do you guys recommend?
  7. big tank lost about 10% water plus two 3ft, another small tank made my fish room a pond the "other tank" was full, i still have pleco's in it cycling the tank ready for its new tenant, that lost about 1/4 water....rimless open top reef tank lost about half its water lol carpets dried abit more last night, heat pump is working well
  8. how are people drying their carpets? my lounge and fish room are soaked, i got towels, heat pump and dehumidifier going but wonder if i can do more is the rug doctor worth hiring?
  9. i upgraded my juwel lido reef tank corals hasnt settled in yet and not in the correct placement when the photo was taken
  10. wow so much has been posted since the last time i logged in Jennifer is spot on, everyone has there own experience and techniques that works for them...there are so many factors in each setup that makes each setup different from brands, substrate, co2,liquid ferts, lighting and even fish alot of these things are trail and error and a basic DIY setup might help you work out what you want
  11. you just have to play around with it once you get it setup PL = PC, same tube just a different name no point buying a unit that you have to modify and i've seen local reefers with the aquaone MH and i personally find the unit ugly looking
  12. i dont want to put you off or anything and i love your enthusiasm BUT DIY co2 wont work on a tank that size and with a light that powerful you will just be growing algae due to the unbalance of co2/light high light = high co2, high ferts low light = low c02 (DIY) low ferts if one is out when it just turns to poos doing a 90p high tech setup at a guess will cost at least 2k and thats doing it on the cheap with DIY stand
  13. Luís Moniz's setup his tank well with that light, all his plants are directly under the MH and at a very high level...i reckon he would have trouble growing a carpet plant like HC or glosso wow you're only 12! good luck saving up cause a high tech setup is going to cost thousands!!!
  14. sorted! cant wait for your build thread
  15. i dont know any unit that is 80-90cm with that configuration...Arcadia is the only one i know that is 110cm everyone else is about 120cm you wont need the T5 with 2x150w MH lol most MH has a light footprint of about 2ft depending on the reflector. A 250w MH isnt going to give you much more light spread but more penetrating power for deeper tanks doing a high tech plant tank isnt easy in nz since we lack equipment and supplies..
  16. my opinion is that 1x150MH + 2x24w T5 isnt enough for a high tech planted tank like the ADA ones you see online....the 110cm unit with 2x150w + 2x39w is what a recommend. (you dont have to turn on the T5's they have there own power switch) the light would over hang 10cm each side which you wont notice since the light is hung above the tank
  17. i was more thinking the 110cm unit with 2x150MH as a single 150w isnt enough spread for a 90cm tank even with the two 24w T5 ADA head office in japan runs two 150w MH Solar 1 units over their 90p (90x45x45) tank and we all know they are the plant gods
  18. my ada wannable 75x45x45 has a 150w MH on it now and it doesnt seem enough
  19. go for the arcadia twin 150MH with 2xt5 but change the T5's to powerglo or life glo arcadia's t5 for growing plants are pretty ugly and high-lite are only for juwel tanks...they have a odd sizing tube
  20. ADA tanks are just silicon together, not fused in anyways silicon is the same thickness of the glass with no excess silicon
  21. in your order thread, it sounds like you want a high tech ADA tank 90x45x45 i would recommend a 90cm 2x150w MH unit....with this light you would be able to grow anything as long has you have good ferts and pressurized co2
  22. MH hoods does cost more but if you are looking at a descent branded T5 unit then its about the same...for MH you have to hang it above the tank at least 20cm or more MH does use more power but its not that much more
  23. do you want to hang your light or sit it on top? one more thing i need to add is the cost of tubes, light tubes/bulbs needs to be replaced every year. T5's aint cheap a 2ft (24watt) power glo are about $40each....$160 a year for 4 tubes a single MH bulb (150watt) is about $50
