  1. Brine shrimp nuplii are newly hatched brine shrimp and I am assuming that what you have is frozen adult brine shrimp.
  2. The design floor load of your floor is 2 kPa which is equivalent to a column of water 400mm high without the weight of the tank or stand. If you are going to put all that weight down through 4 legs work out what the force is on each leg and see what you think. Puting it on wood of any description will help only a little. If the legs were one inch box section the force would be about a quarter of a tonne/square inch. There is a safety factor in the floor design but I doubt it would be that much. There are engineers on this site that could better advise but I would be very cautious.
  3. I take it that you have frozen adult brine shrimp rather than frozen brineshrimp nuplii
  4. Flagyl is manufactured by Pfizer and is the registered trade name for metronidazole and is used to treat parasites in humans and can be used to treat parasites in fish also. I would suggest you get advice from someone who actually is in the know. There are people on this site who do know what they are talking about in relation to discus and diseases of them. They have imported and or bred them for many years and I'm sure would be happy to advise if you can post a picture and as much info as you can on the signs and behaviour of the sick fish.
  5. CO2 in water forms carbonic acid and If I remember correctly the pH of coke is about 4.6
  6. Get your priorities right and start as you mean to go on.
  7. Soon after we get the anopheles mosquito, the adult female of which is the vector. There will be people in NZ with malaria that they have contracted overseas but no vector at present to transmit it person to person. Regular checks are carried out around International airports and ports for introduced mossies.
  8. I didn't have the slightest problem. (funny that)
  9. Thanks for that info, I might have to wind the temperature up a bit.
  10. I try to keep my incubator about mid-temperature for two reason--should get males and females and also it is as low as it will go. I hope I am right with the temperature thing and sex (are we allowed to say that?) I can be sure I will be corrected if not.
  11. Low temperature---females, high temperature---males. Some people do the icecream container thingy and put it in the hot water cylinder cupboard. I use an incubator at 25 deg C and over the last few years they have taken between 72 and 100 days to hatch. You need to not turn them at all or it kills the babies. Keep them moist not wet as the moist shell remains soft and they can escape the shell when ready, too dry and they can get trapped in the shell.
  12. I have to admit that I have never tried to grow Crypts emesed but with Echinodorus sp. any change seems to stimulate them to flower. shorten or lengthen lighting period, change type of light, changes in temperature or changing from emersed to submersed or back seems to get them going. Change the rules and see what happens, it doesn't want to be too gradual either.
  13. They are looking pretty healthy. What temperature do you have them at?
  14. I am working on it at the moment also. The storage experiments will be moved to another time when we have a few more breeders.
  15. Check your PM ---SECRET SQUIREL
  16. Only as much as water is a weak acid. It breaks down to water and O2
  17. The Regional Council would like to get rid of quarries and extract gravel and sand from the Wiamakariri because it contually builds up with gravel but it is still not legal.
  18. Barrie---I have noted your name
  19. You would have to ask the Queen that as it is her chain. You can buy the same stuff from your local nursery and hopefully they have a permit to take it.
  20. I smoked for 40 years but have been off them for about 6 years. Remind yourself all the time how good it is to taste food, smell the flowers, not smell like an ashtray and have some change in your pocket. When fag smoke reminds you of all the good things rather than wanting one you are away laughing.
