  1. I am surounded by poor creatures: Brine shrimp, microworms, whiteworms, garden worms, slugs, snails, fruit flies, aphids, house flies, locusts, waxworms and mealworms. I had best start praying or I will never get to heaven now.
  2. Well done. You will feel better and have more money for fish. Can't be all bad.
  3. You can, but you may choose not to.
  4. Hang in there. You will give up smoking when you decide you REALY want to. Remind yourself every day how much better life is without fags and realy enjoy all the good aspects of being smoke free. This positive reinforcement is almost like self hypnosis. Remind yourself how great it is to taste your food and smell the flowers.
  5. Do you have light in the cupboard? They will need light to see the food.
  6. Furan2 will cure it but you will need to use it as per the instructions
  7. If you don't train it to eat a selection of food you will only be making life difficult for yourself and your pet. I don't think they would come across a lot of wax worms in the Ausi desert but would be eating a selection of food as it was available. Good practice for when you have to train kids to eat healthy food.
  8. 1PPM maximum daily exposure is actually quite a high standard considering that it is a gas in solution and that standard relates to an industrial situation and continuous exposure for 8 hours. I have no problem using it to medicate fish assuming it will not be toxic to the fish in the manner used. I would not want to use it in an open bucket to soak nets in where the formaldehyde can fume off even though I would suspect any fumes would be way below 1ppm. Chlorine gas is a highly toxic chemical and was used to kill soldiers in the first world war but is frequently present in drinking water at around or more than 1ppm. Bleach is a solution of HTH which releases chlorine gas and will fume from an open bucket as well. The main thing to remember with formalin is that it can produce compounds during storage that are very toxic to fish so do not shake the bottle when using it and decant the liquid to leave any precipitate behind. Keep formalin from contact and don't breath the fumes. Any chemical used as a medicine is likely to be toxic (that is why they work) so should be treated with respect. Ureaformaldehyde is used in the manufacture of many modern building materials and will fume off formaldehyde (presumably at acceptable levels).
  9. I use cool white and the growlux type tubes. As stated you will need more blue light. On its own I don't think the plants would like it much. Also red light does not penetrate water as well as blue.
  10. It is not the breeder you need but the genes.
  11. Seagulls have some bad habits---just be greatfull that elephants can't fly.
  12. If we did not kill and eat living things we would get awfull edit suphew: swearing removed hungry. Different cultures have different views on how that is acceptable. Some people find it perfectly OK to eat horses, cats, dogs, monkeys and snakes and we would probably not. Others would not eat beef or pork under any circumstances. I think there needs to be a level of tolerence for other peoples views that are not the same as ours. We can still do what we think is right. Mother nature can be a cruel lady by our standards. 99% of a fish spawning will get eaten
  13. Mine usually take a few days to hear the music.
  14. We all put different values on life and cruelty. Some people think a vegetable has a soul and say a prayer before eating it and others keep pets that require live food. Vive la difference.
  15. You can use the heat pads or an aquarium heater/thermostat in the bottle. I used to use them when making wine. Use a rubber bung with a hole for the wires and one for the CO2. A better way would be a to use a large jar and make wine at the same time..
  16. You would need to weigh up the difference between the people that the aquarium would attract and the 8 seats that will not fit in because of it.
  17. It would certainly be cheaper.
  18. Chicken often gets a bad reputation but you have to regard all raw meat as bacterially contaminated and make sure it is cooked and stored properly. And for all those vegetarians out there you may be surprised at the bacterialogical loading on some salads sold in the shops.
  19. Make sure the wood is dry when you pour the lead in or you will get molten lead spitting into your face.
  20. They germinate better with strong light. Potting mix and other media high in nutrient usually makes for a lot of problems with algae.
  21. I got someone else to make it and it was less than I could have got the glass for.
  22. Someone has been selling lotus seeds on that nonny mouse site so I suspect someone has if they sold any. The other way would be to buy some from them and get their instruction sheet. I would try fine sand in a shallow dish to see if they germinate. Gravel may be a bit course.
  23. However, we can but dream about the colour morphs
  24. It is a bit like battery chooks I guess. If you had that many and taking into account that the males will fight, if you provided them all with lots of room and put them on permanent display it could well be that there would not be enough room in the house for either you, your partner or both. It seems to be how it is done commercially and is part of the reason why they can be so cheap overseas.
