  1. Lance only owns the Northlands store and to the best of my knowledge is not breeding leopards.
  2. If jandels are banned wear thongs. When I was training one of the students was told that a full beard was not becoming so he trimmed it (by 1/8th inch. The same guy was told he had to wear a tie on visits so he did (but no shirt). After that they figured he was a cot case and left him alone.
  3. You need to make sure you don't have a great depth of grave/sand and it is even
  4. I think they have been used as an undertank heater but as an undergravel I don't know. You would need a sparky.
  5. If the heaters are on all the time they are too small. If you wind the temperature up they can't get any hotter than on all the time so the only thing that will happen is that you will cook your fish when the ambient temperature increases and the heat loss from the tank decreases. Get bigger heaters and set them for the temperature that you want.
  6. Like a lot of things the price will drop dramatically when there are a few more about. At the moment I think they are only a few generations from extinction in NZ.
  7. They seldom throw runners submersed or emersed and the way to propagate them is secret squirel and risky. I have not got any this summer. Paid $50 for my first one and about 2 months later the same person sold some on this site for $18 so I bought a couple more. I have had a few pups but not easily.
  8. He is presently looking for lumps.
  9. Thanks, I have started at the beginning and asked him to confirm that they are actually a pair. We will progress from there hopefully.
  10. That is probably the problem. When you take newly imorted fish out of boxes and put them in tanks they go a bit weird and it is probably because of the direction the light is coming from (the side). Most tanks are on white polystyrene and this will put light up from the bottom which must make them feel like they are in a house of mirrors.
  11. I like the jagers as well. They can also be adjusted so the temperature you set for is what you get.
  12. You can buy plug in reostats on the nonny mouse site under reptiles for 20 odd dollars. I have two tanks heated by under tank heater pads (not home made) and they work well but they have electronic thermostats.
  13. They should return to normal shortly. I used to have 8 pairs happily breeding in bare tanks without any problems. Also raised the fry in bare tanks.
  14. I assume you raise the young the same way as fire bellies.
  15. Love the uraguayensis. It is a pity they are so hard to propagate. I had three emersed all summer and none even looked like throwing a runner. I have just moved them inside under artificial light so see how we go this year under artificial light. I have changed the light this year and will report later on success or not.
  16. I have a friend wanting to breed axies. Anyone care to spill the secrets---I know nothing?
  17. I have a deaf friend who was told he had to wear air muffs at work by a person from OSH. The sign language got pretty cute.
  18. Possibly a variety of blassii, I think Bob has a number of varieties of it including a broad leafed one. Flowers that develop submersed usually deteriorate fairly quickly which is a pity because many crypt flowers are spectacular. I had it for a while but it did not do well in my setup. He grows them submersed and emersed and I have seen some of that plant in flower grown emersed and almost a metre high. Can't remember much about the flower other than it was pretty spectacular.
  19. Not sure on the ID of the crypt but it is a flower. Are the leaves red on the underside? What is the plant in the background? Is it uraguayensis?
  20. If your heater is big enough there is no need to turn it up at all. It is controlled by a thermostat that switches on and off to control the temperature of the water regardless of the ambient temperature. If the ambient temperature drops the heater will be on more because of more heat loss from the water.
  21. dandelion leaves are pretty cheap and readily available.
  22. There are different types of plastics that look similar but need different solvents so make sure you get the right one.
  23. The firms that sell the acrylic normally sell the adhesive as well. You can either use the solvent or the solvent with some of the acrylic disolved in it to make a glue.
  24. The quickest and most humane way is to throw them at great speed onto the concrete path.
