  1. It is all politics. It will make no real difference. The 75% of people that pay all the taxes still will be and the people that pay little because they make little and the 5% that are very rich will still pay very little taxes. I don't understand why the working people (anyone with a boss) are happy to see the top tax rate cut as the workers pay the tax and the rich are able to set things up so they don't pay tax. It must be the greedy nature of mankind where we all think we may be rich one day even though we don't have a snowballs and are better off without it. It gives us the time to keep fish rather than worrying ouselves about where the next million will come from.
  2. What I have done is put in large pieces of drift wood so they can get a bit closer to the UV.
  3. I think the UV should be no more than 300mm from the basking area.
  4. I have used both systems and am happy with both. You just need to be sure the basking area is getting enough UV. A full sized tube is no good if it is too far away.
  5. A compact UV is very directional and localised but would be OK if it covered the basking area/s. Ceramics last longer than normal bulbs and are OK until they stop working as I understand it. I have had a few going for over a year with no problems but seem to be going through lightbulbs for the locusts like they are going out of fashion.
  6. I am struggling to get enough for breakfast from the park over the road. The wild ones do have a lot more flavour and the little bits that move are full of vitamins.
  7. Most tetras are sensitive to malachite green so you need to increase it gradually if you use that.
  8. There was supposed to be. One was over a year old and the other was second unsuccessful attempt. Would have been nice but no luck.
  9. I have just given up on trying to hatch nigs from two different sources so sorry, can't help there.
  10. I have no problem with a discussion to identify a fish provided it is about the fish and not the marital state of each others parents or something similar. This discussion was getting personal and will not even be a discussion unless there is a reply.
  11. Years ago I used to have a number of diatomaceous earth reverse flow filters that were very good at polishing but I have not seen them or the fine media around for quite a while.
  12. In the end it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
  13. There are members on this site I would happily buy fish from and members I definately would not. All I am pointing out is that it is against the rules to slag other members. If you don't wish to buy, then don't. If a person doesn't wish to answer a reasonable question then don't buy. We are trying to avoid a public slanging match which actually achieves nothing. You and everyone else is entitled to their opinion but it is not dishonest to keep it to yourself or discuss it with others in an environment where it is not against the rules. Thankyou for your cooperation.
  14. Do you think your first comments on this post were warm and fuzzy remarks about a fellow member?
  15. Do you have one or are you prospecting for customers? Please read the rules.
  16. refreezing is bad. Just thaw what you want of the bits and store the rest still frozen till next time.
  17. You asked for a link to be made to the "other site" so one would assume that the discussion you wish to continue would be permitted on that site.
  18. Do we realy need this discussion? Why not agree to disagree. This is just going to become another pointless and personal arguement and the minute it looks like it, it will be removed. Why not have the discussion on the other site if it complies with their rules. Personal attacks to dot comply with the rules on this site. It is hard to believe sometimes but this is actually about fishkeeping, not slandering.
  19. They are Cantabrians on their OE. Forced to eat all the best kaimoana (located off the coast of Cnterbury and one of the best places to obtain seafood in the country).
  20. capsicums are for sissies that can't handle chillies
