    Purigen??

Now I'm confused :-? This is the Write up from Seachem for Recharging Purigen: Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh filter bag. Each 1 L treats up to 4,000 L (1,000 gallons*) for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discoloration of the beads to dark brown or black. Regeneration: Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metalic container in a well ventilated area and away from children. Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of ChlorGuard™, Prime™, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. For freshwater use, soak for 4 hours with a solution containing 1 tablespoon of buffer per cup of water (Discus Buffer™, Neutral Regulator™, or Acid Buffer™). Original color and full activity should now be restored and Purigen™ is ready for reuse. Caution: some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen™ and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of chlorine is detectable. In case of doubt, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit They are saying to use Bleach, then use (Discus Buffer™, Neutral Regulator™, or Acid Buffer™). Vinsonmassif: Did you use Ammonia only to recharge your Purigen??
  2. When the flow rate stars to slow, that usually means it's time for a clean Just remember, always clean your Filter Media in Tank Water only
  3. Thats what I would do Mel, better to move them into another Tank, than to have them eaten  Good Luck :bounce:
  4. lmsmith : Now I'm confused :-? Capitalisation was just for decoration
  5. Awesome Thanks once again Ron
  6. Don't feed them untill they have used up all of their Egg Sac, usually around 3 days but maybe abit longer.

    Purigen??

Cant work out why HFF would sell this stuff, but not what you need to recharge it :-? My cousin has a Marine Tank so might ask him, he is also mates with one of the girls from one of the Petshops down in Welly, so she maybe able to get it in for me.
  8. Hmm :-? Might have to pop an Airstone in the Tank then. I would have thought with the amount of water changes I do (3 x 70% a week), there would be enough oxygen in the water already. Thanks for that Dixon

    Purigen??

Im looking at using Seachem Purigen in my Discus Tank, I'm not having much luck fixing this hazy Tank of mine  Purigen has been recommended to me by a couple of people on here, so now I have a few questions I would like answers to if at all possible. Has anyone used Seachem Purigen before and recharged it?? It seems that when Purigen has used up it's ability to absorb, it turns dark brown to black, it can be recharged by soaking it in a solution of Bleach, then it needs to be recharged with a Neutral Regulator or Discus Buffer. I'm looking at getting some of this from Hollywood Fish Farm as nobody down this way sells it, it seems HFF sell Purigen but not what you need to recharge it with once it's past its use ability. Has anyone used Purigen?? Advice on this product would be really appreciated.
  10. If I cant get hold of Purigen anywhere down this way will have to get some from Hollywood Fish Farm. This is the write up they have on there website: Seachem Purigen Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is not any other filtration product. It's not a mix of ionexchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities. Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others by over 500%. Purigen controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. Purigen’s impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. Purigen darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach. Purigen is designed for both marine and freshwater use. Sizes: 100 mL (bagged), 250 mL How much of this am I going to need to put in my External Filter, and where in the Filter do I put it?? Do I get rid of the Carbon that is in there at the moment?? Not sure if I need to buy the 100ml or 250ml.
  11. Dixon: There's no airstone Ron: Heading to your Fish Room sounds like a good idea to me, would be interesting to see if there is any difference between yours and mines rate of breathing Havent seen them scraping against anything either.
  12. Wow It's very blingy then isnt it  Good Luck with it, actually you probably know my cousin, he's into Marine Fish and also on the Marine Forums Now Im thinking hmm is this a Marine Tank this skimmer is on, think you only have Skimmers on Marine Tanks dont you????

    Newbie here

Welcome to the FNZAS Forums Pegwood Nice to have you here Just remember, if you have any questions, however big or small they maybe, dont be afraid to ask, If you dont ask you will never know Loads of very friendly people on here that will be only too willing to help you
  14. Wow Interesting Dont know anything about Skimmers, but tell me, the purple light underneath the Skimmer I assume that is a UV light :-? Is that right?
  15. Yes they have settled in well Ron :bounce: Still have a photo of 1 more that I need to post on here, I'm pretty sure he is a Blue Turk, looks very similar to the one I lost awhile ago. Tell me Ron, I had a comment from my cousin the other day, he keeps Marine Fish, he commented on how fast my Discus where breathing, can you give me any idea as to how many breaths they should be taking a minute, bit of a weird question I know, but this does have me abit concerned :-? Tank Parameters are all good, PH 6.6, Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 5. Temp is usually around 29-30.
  16. Awesome Guys :bounce: Thanks for that info, will head to the Petshop tomorrow, and grab some Purigen. Will also get rid of the Bio Balls, I have some Eheim Substrate Pro, cost me $100 for a box of it, so I'm thinking it's got to be pretty good it says it's Sintered Quartz, so I'm assuming thats what you are talking about Ron. Now if I replace the Bio Balls and fill up the 2 trays with the Sintered Quartz, and add the Purigen, is this going to cause the Tank to Cycle?? As I will be taking out most of the exsisting media from the Filter?? If I use Purigen, do I have to remove the Carbon that I now have in my Filter?? Also, where am I meant to put this Purigen? Can somebody give me the Brand Name of it, not sure the Pet shop here will stock it, might have to make a trip to Palmy. Thanks for all you ideas they have been fantasic
  17. I've got 10 of these little Fellas, and they look great in a big group :bounce:
  18. I agree with alanmin4304 I have used the syphoning method time and time again, with great success So easy to remove small fry from a Tank and transfer them over to another Tank. I would also feed them up with the Microworms or hatched baby Brine Shrimp, really no need for Green Water
  19. Congratulations on your Eggs Mel :bounce: Hope all goes well Is a very exciting time when you have been waiting soooo long for something to breed, and they finally do
  20. Ok Ron, when you have a minute can you please identify my 3 new Discus
  21. I never fed mine on Green Water just used hatched Baby Brine Shrimp. Green water can be made by placing some lettuce in a bucket and pouring some warm water on it, leave it in the sun untill it slowly breaks down, this can also be done with banana skins as well. Use the search function on here, I'm sure you will get abit clearer instructions as to how to make your own Green Water.
