  1. go bigger you'll thank yourself later
  2. Geez...... sounds like a woman i once knew....sounds like you may need an excorcist to get rid of them
  3. heres mine kole tang was giving it a bit of grief initially, but now its happy families. just installed a pondmaster 11 watt UVC filter in-line before skimmer, [seems to make skimmer pull more gunk out of the water] hopefully this will help avoid any nasties getting to it 'scuse the slow image load, ive popped my monthly bandwidth cap
  4. nah mate i just got the reef-safe version, the standard one leaches phosphates
  5. i got mine from here - $3 a piece, about 20x15cm interlocking
  6. fair enough pies - give us yer livestock then, ill return it to the wild 4 ya
  7. stay away from bio balls / filter wool etc. you will end up with nitrate probs with these. you could put some carbon in it
  8. no issues with the bigger pump - you do need to adjust the height of water in the skimmer though so as not to skim too wet. the length of tubing will make a small difference horizontally, but i wouldnt worry too much about it if its under 1 metre or so..
  9. shipping from overseas is quite pricey, however if you are looking at buying more expensive hardware, then it may end up saving you a fair bit of cash shopping either from the states or europe / UK [even after gst, import tax, etc]. some stuff you will find is about half the retail price it is here. if anyone tries to tell you different, they are probably a distributor . the advantage of europe over thet states is that anything that requires power to run will work here, as it is the same voltage - therefore only requires an adapter plug. stuff from the states is 120v so needs a stepdown transformer. as far as livestock goes, youree pretty much SOL trying to import stuff - you will need to buy fish from the pet stores, but most people will either give or sell you coral frags from their own tanks. as far as advice on setting up a tank, there are plenty of poeple on this forum that will be more than happy to advise on anything you want to know. just dont mention sand beds
  10. i had similar in my cold water tank - like normal coralline but small branches start coming out from it. seemed to be just another typr of coralline, didnt take over the tank or anything
  11. i think that one or more of the importers should start selling livestock on the net here. [like liveaquaria.com etc] . I personally would buy about twice as much if it was about half the price of retail. it is kinda cool to be able to goto a LFS and look at stuff but the prices could be so much better if bought straight from the importers - and i bet the importers could move heaps more stock.
  12. dude, not sure what happens in hamiltron after dark, but mine certainly is....
  13. aah the mighty queen skimmer..... it may pay to get a stronger pump to run it - i was using a queen skimmer with an 1300LPH pump for ages, and it was basically skimming nothing - i upgraded to a 2600lph pump and it produced about 4 times more bubbles. you can still use the 1100lph pump as a powerhead inside the tank. i still have 3 queen skimmers in the garden shed

    New Skimmer

adding another pump to the skimmer body?
  18. looks cool - glad its not me trying to stack corals on it though 8)
  19. suphew the korallin reactors use ther same pump to circulate and draw water in, does it not make sense that if its trying to force more in than comes out then pressure is created inside the chamber?
  20. lolz " File Transfer: Unavailable Unfortunately, the link you have clicked is not available. The file has most likely exceeded its allotted bandwidth or has been removed by the original sender or a recipient."
  21. yeah its no hassle to set up, you just need a static ip from your ISP [free usually], a dsl router with port fowarding [most routers do] and a computer that you will leave running with web / ftp server software running. not sure if you remember a thread around xmas where i put a $35 webcam on my tank and posted the URL up here? works the same way. gimme a yell if you want help to do it
  22. or grab an old pentium3 for $20 off trademe and host as much data as you have disk space
  23. glass drill bits http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Building-construction/Tools/Power-tools/auction-50108378.htm i had to measure the outside diameter of the hansen tank fittings, as 32 or 25mm etc is the inside diameter - i think 32mm ended up needing a 34 or 35mm hole.
