  1. IMHO you should go for the cf700 which will turn 150 litres over around 3 times an hour taking media flow loss into consideration. This would be ample filtration. If you are planning a bigger tank later go for the cf1200. These filters are excellent and quiet. Regarding how to swap the new filter in get a little bit of media from your existing filter and pop it in one of the baskets of the new filter. Then fire them both up in the same tank and within a week you will have 2 cultured filters. You should be able to feed your fish normally and you should do that so as to keep the bioload up on the filters.
  2. Cool Daniel So much variety you have. What is your Gh and Kh usually?
  3. I also used to hate having the dirty internal filter leak its dirty contents into the tank when I cleaned the filter. It can't leak back in using an external filter - much easier to clean.
  4. Where is the drool icon Plants are going nuts. That looks superb. And then theres the Discus. Drooooooool
  5. Depends where you get your BN ancistrus from but probably not really hardy enough. They will eventually get to around 15 - 20 cm if well looked after unlike most plecostomus spp who grow large. They don't have scales and tend to suffer from whitespot if the stress comes on. If your buying them from the petshop definitely not as they will already be stressed. Why don't you use platties or guppies or swordtails or something. Do you have a water test kit?

    scales flying!

Probably be best to find a new home for her but I'm no expert. My thinking on rock formations is that they would be best toward one end so she can hide out of the road in one of the corners maybe? Maybe a tank divider might work short term if your stuck. Do you have some glass? This thread is where Alan tells you how to build one easily. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/discus ... 11618.html
  7. The Waikato river has an algae problem at the moment and they are warning us to stay out of the river from karapiro up. (I think?) Will this algae be in my drinking water? Most importantly will it effect my tanks if I change water with it?
  8.

Hey Glen How big is the tank. Would need to be a big tank, at least 600l pref 1000, with seperate "territories" using plants or rocks if the spare female is to survive.
  10. Gregs listing in the comercial T&E can be found here :bounce:
  11. Yeah Auckland would be the option - Someone will give you gregs details. I bought some glass off smith and smith to do repairs - one day i might build my own but not in the short term. Is that 700mm front to back (depth) or height? Is your green terror in with your electric blues? Just being nosey

    Hi all

Hey Cherie Welcome to the forums
  13. Should only be 25 - 30 000 buckets
  14. Sorry Caper can't resist One sign to watch for    I hope your goldfish gets better soon
  15. Hi Owen It looks like a great idea.
  16. How are your fish doing Logan? Anyone else got Sciaenochromis fryeri in New Zealand?
  17. Just a cool white tube in that single fluro assembly would be enough for your africans. How many watts is the fluro assembly? 30w? Do you have plants in the tank?
  18. Your plant looks healthy Sharn. When I unpotted a microsword last year I ended up with heaps of "millions" snails. My hardy tropical monster goldfish cleaned them up fortunately but some remain in another tank. Are you going to treat the plants for snails before you put them in?
  19. Hard to tell from the picture. Could be val. Looks to tall for microsword.
  20. He looks like a surfie 8)
  21. Hey Sharn I wouldn't put the cabomba in there. It is a messy looking plant that never seems to look quite right with the amazons IMHO. The Val is a tall spreading plant that will fit in better. Chuck out the cabomba and find a few more crypts or echnydoris sp?
