  1. Well actually it does give reasons why they may go white. They not really going white more peachy / pale orange
  2. Best "investment" I've made this year is the super syphon thing that attaches to the sink faucet. No spill water changes and no buckets. $22 wasn't going to part with it but it's excellent.
  3. What colour is your substrate? They may be trying to blend in with a light colour in your tank. Are you sure they are definitely yellows? There are allsorts of "e yellows" out there.
  4. If you think you can get the log up and into a bucket with a small amount of tankwater already in it then you may catch quite a few that way - if you do it smoothly and as quick as you can. Bristlenose often get mistakenly removed from the tank attached or inside tank decorations. It took me quite a few days to get the 20 odd I "rescued" out of my community with a net. . It is much easier to get the eggs before they hatch. Maybe you need to take out the wood and make the male move into an easier alternative for the future?
  5. Oops - I suppose that's why it says following.
  6. Is the tank crawl Sunday as well Dave? Luke? anyone? Yay I have the day off so I get to come along to the meeting 8)
  7. Nice fish 8) Theres a little leleupi in the Tropheus shot. I have Leleupi, and the ones in the last pic, N lamprologus
  8. Youve gotta love dial up
  9. Allright you guys. Who scared Karyn off? 1 post http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/north- ... 12100.html
  10. Well thats hard to beat. Wonder wether it would happen twice in a row.
  11. If the jar doesn't work you could try a coke type bottle with a string around the top. The narrow opening may stop the little blighters getting out. I have used this on kribs and it works ok if you have the patience.
  12. One method I use is get them in the dark method The babies tend to come up near the waterline once the lights go out. If the room is lit they wil be easily seen and can be netted carefully out. Of course I have a hood which takes any shadows I or the net etc may cast to scare them off. It's still a one or two at a time approach. The easiest way tho is to get them before they hatch by stealing dad's cave - much to his disgust - they can either be hatched in the cave - you'll have to rig something up for that - or carefully scraped out and hatched in a breeding trap. Good luck -
  13. Very sedate tonight - 8)
  14. I wonder wether the service will improve?
  15. Yea it will be fine - It encourages you to be careful with the water and avoid the furniture and floors. And it looks far better than cruddy old lights and wat not on top of the tank.
  16. Sounds like you were lucky it went in the tank not all over the room
  17. Good luck - Have you chucked the DIY yeast outfit in the bin? Try using flourish excel and better lighting instead.
  18. Do some water tests Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate - should be fine after the water changes. Ph These are the big ones but as you have discus you may want to check the water is not too hard as well. If the tests are within acceptable range then the discus should be fine but keep testing every 12 - 24 hours til the water clears and keep up the water changes - probably 10 - 20 percent a day. Are you on Chch city water?
  19. I agree the pulchers will be too aggressive once they spawn. You will have the same problem as me once they fill your 2 footer with more n. pulcher - 100's more. I have to do twice weekly water changes now or they all stop growing - maybe thats a good thing?
  20. Flourish excel has kicked Black Beard Algae out of my tank. Maybe your container contains water or diluted product? I was skeptical pouring this stuff thats about $100 a litre into the tank when it looks like water - But when you see the bba going purple then keeling over you know what you are paying for. Grows good plants too 8) - sorry to hijack - My baby bristlenoses love JBL novo tom and they also get courgette / zuchinni. Might try the peas though thanks for that.
  21. Hi Kyle I have opinions on Fluval canisters - but we won't go there 8) The 1200 would give you more bang for the bucks. It pumps (hopefully) more water than the 305. I don't know how noisy the cf1200 is but the cf700 is near silent. the cf700 is also rated similar to the 305 and is only about $130 new on TM. How big is the tank you want it for?
  22. If you don't wait what are you going to do instead - ? I lost a female krib a month or so back and she was exhibiting similar signs to your fish - while it could have been dropsy I have put it down to old age and the stress of spawning as she and her man had a new batch of young they were caring for. How many kribs do you have left?
  23. I was in Pak n Save Mill St the other day and by the Janola etc there are bottles of an ammonium chloride bleach that should be ideal for cleaning - the ammonium will get eaten by the denitrifying bacteria. Sorry can't remember the brand name but it was a clear bottle about 1 litre maybe 750ml.
