    Eheim filters

I have a UGF in a heavily planted 100 litre tank. However its reverse flow and is being fed by a canister filter. Its is excellent one of my other tanks just has a canister filter and is also heavily planted - but its got no UGF. The one without the UGF has a bit of a pong to the substrate but the one with the UGF smells sweet as. I don't see much difference in growth of plants between the two. the only problem I see with the UGF is the air used to drive it might leach the minerals out of the water and the loss of CO2 if you want plants to grow fast. Reverse flow is a work around. I don't think UGF is superceded technology UGF

  3. Awesome display and that log is totally impressive. Have you got co2 yet? The ambulia sure is an excellent plant for aquariums.

  5. What size tank is it? is it the 20L - Fin clamping is usually a sign of toxic water conditions -

Oh no what sort of "cave" have they got? Nothing in it that might be toxic - some materials start to breakdown in water after time. Are the fry still in there? Are they OK? I love kribs

  8. It probly depends on what you want to do with them (discus). If you just want to look at them cool get big ones - If you want to breed them eventually - get a bunch of small ones and wait for them to pair off naturally. Theyre not cheap though -
  9. Blinkin lovely iznt it. I agree a couple of tasty plants once in awhile be a good thing to watch the goldfish munch up. Have you got polystyrene under it? Might be a good idea although maybe a small tank isn't so prone to pressure breakages. Apart from that maybe some black paper to wrap right around the front and sides for when you have a headache  Sorry i couldn't resist.
  10. Hi HandS Yeah the kribs I got off you are great - they are wonderful examples and have settled in great. They are really friendly as well - They are currently having their second spawn - be close to fifty I just got some jewels off trademe in Auckland - They didn't look as good as the picture but hey they got some growing to do. How big are your jewels? Cheers
  11. Can anyone tell me what this means What does the L14 mean - Ive seen this on a few places lately - the L business followed by a number. I won't be able to sleep until I find out.
  12. Another new face been struck down by the fish bug. You'll be needing a few plants for all those tanks. Enjoy
  13. Thanks steve - I have Kribs and jewels at the moment - The Kribs have spawned twice in two months and the jewels are about to - I hear theyre a bit nasty so am watching developments as I have some flying foxes in there. Keen on getting other cichlids to so sing out anybody
  14. I have been looking at this site for some time and have finally got registered. I have "too many tanks" (not my description - Im perfectly happy ) I have a 4 footer and another 2 150 litres, another 2 be 100 litres and a few 25 - 40 litre jobs. I love cichlids and are busy stocking up on the ones I can get. Im also keen on plants so my choices are generally limited to fish that won't give them to much grief. I have only been into fish this year - I got the bug while I was trying to help my sister save her goldfish from dieing. I used to think it was cruel to keep fish in a tank - I still do but its fine so long as the tanks not too small and the keeper can be bothered doing everything they can to keep the fish happy and healthy. I've learned heaps but still need to know heaps more. Its great that we can all join in here and share and learn off each other - I already know a few of you and look forward to meeting others.
