  1. Hey guy's Just to let you all know that UHAS is having our meeting this Thursday, 7.30pm, Meeting at the IHC Centre, 32 Goodshed Rd, Upper Hutt. We'll be having a quick chat about the conference just past, and then we'll be off to visit the fishroom of our local fish God Father, Stu Everyone welcome, feel free to ask for more info! Also remember subs are due and you'll need to get them in on time to receive the next yearbook
  2. If you want natives I think its best to stick to the whitebate sp. - beat the whitebaters (who eat them) to it and you won't be making much of a dent in the population! (Saw some Giant Kokopu's at Napier a few ago - awesome looking fish )
  3. Nice link btw - It must be quite a new section to their site cause it wasn't there when I went looking about a year ago - I like this quote in the "Things you can do" section; Haha!! So the Department of Conservation are telling the public that - and yet people still release them by the thousand to fish for each year... nice!
  4. The Chch mudfish is pretty rare I think....

  7. A good length of hose - nothing worse than one thats just too short!
  8. AWESOME set up, I remember it was in PFK (UK mag) a few years back, it really is impressive!
  9. nice! Are they big enought to do the deed yet?
  10. snails in the tank won't....
  11. Get a snail infestation!!
  12. I only use limestone, keeps the pH at 8.2 which is plenty Aragonite is great but I've never used it - doesn't look very natural!
  13. Can you just post the link (as in the url not the img) to where the link is?? Cause we'd still like to see it!!
  14. yeah - fish are only worth what you are willing to pay for them if its $2 then thats great, if its $2000 then good on ya, as long as you are happy with your fishy
  15. Yeah I know - its ok! We all have at some stage and every fish is worth what you're willing to pay for it anyway! I got mine from a very nice shop in Hastings when we had conference last week But hey - its way to easy to get hung up on money - if you like them then you like them - and you must have been ok with what ever trade/price you paid cause you went through with it! So who cares?! its not like you are going to add them to your contents insurance!
  16. How about a possum??! (who like to do the wife's chores!)
  17. Well - I'm a bit cheap I guess but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a syno - and it would have to be a VERY nice one for that! like I said I just got one (which is as nice as they can be in my eyes) for $20 - so why pay more??! If you really want me to put a number down I'll say $40 NOT that its not a nice fish! I just think its way to easy to put $100 price tags on fish!
  18. Yeah fixing the patches in a position would be pretty mush impossible genetically - but a patchy fish would look pretty cool!
  19. I found, with photobucket at least, that to show a pic you have to log out and view your photo logged out and copy THAT link - otherwise it doesn;'t work... does that make sense?! Nice fish though... thanks
  20. Makes sense - do you think it would be possible to create a strain which has lots of patches??!
  21. You'll naturally have to call the second one Patch  I have no idea about GBA's but I'll let someone know who does and I'm sure he'll enlighten us all!
  22. I think that a lot of Syno's used to be really over priced - but they seem to be comming down a bit now - I got a really nice one (leopard synodontis; nigromaculatus I think...) for $20 the other week which was a good find I think... last year one of my local shops was selling featherfins for $60!! I think its very easy to say how much some fish are 'worth' Do you have any pics??!
