  1. I'm looking forward to it! I've got 3 adults that seem to be chummy, but aren't breeding yet - one's from Chris D. and 2 from someone in Napier... I'll let you know when they start!
  2. Neolamprologus plucher's (aka Daffodil) are much better I think, not quite as nasty as bric's and they look just as nice if not nicer; They have the same prenatal care habits but like I said they aren't quite as snappy... Saying that, they are when (not if - they are like rabbits!) they breed so like cichfanatic and afrikan said I wouldn't keep them with my fronts either... I've got some Julido's (marlieri) with my Fronts at the mo and they seem to get on fine if you do want to have tank mates with them; Either way though, when cichlids breed, WATCH OUT OTHER FISH!
  3. Sorry david! FONTS ROCK!!! (Cyphotilapia frontosa) Home range - Lake Tanganyika, in deep water. They are really awesome and I'd say definatly the best cichlids out there! Getting to about 35cm they have great personalities and show very interesting behaviour, especially while breeding when they mouthbrood. They need a massive tank but are well worth it I'd say, my favourites by far

They have a split lateral line, Two nostril pit things on each side of their head (most fish have one on each side) and also some kind of modification to their mouths which means they can change quickly to take up new niches (ie adapt/evolve faster than most) So they are basically SUPER FISH :D
  7. come from lake tang. too - and river systems all over central africa...

    Awesome! Thanks for that
  9. Get a tank that they can all fit in, put them in and run them, then get one of your older ones and squeze it in the tank to make the tank water full of 'filter juice'. That should get all the filters to quickly pick up lots of good bacteria etc Thats what I'd do anyway...
  10. I'm pretty sure he's a Distichodus sexfasciatus Very nice fish but he sounds like he's a bit of a hand full! Grows up to 30cm in captivity according to PFK; http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=253 He come's from Lake Tanganyika, so as many cichlid people will know, he has to be pretty tough to fend of the bossy fish he lives with in the wild! Hope that helps

no worries it's easy to use, say you wanted to message me but coudn't remember exactly how my slightly odd username went, just search for 'fish' and you'll get me and everyone else with 'fish' in their username - although I guess on here that might be quite a few people!

Do you mean a dating section??! Sounds like fun...! I'm not really sure what you mean, but did you know you can search for people's user names when you are composing a pm? - hope that helps...
  13. Saying that, a keyring version would be kind of cool! Did they have those??!!

Yeah I think its better just to have the one - not busy enough for two really and I think it could scare new people away from asking questions if they don't know here their fish come from! Although a frontosa section would be nice...
  15. They are awesome thanks for sharing! I'm not really a 'broach' kind of person but I'm sure some auckland guy's would be up for that hehee
  16. awesome, thanks for that
  17. oh cool, thats good then!
  18. It looks pretty cool, so we probaly can't get it!
  19. Does it sink? Cause Colour Bits don't always sink which isn't so good for my Fronts.... As far as I know it isn't in NZ so we have to get it sent over from Aussie
