  1. Yeah they can I guess. But doesn't mean they should! And I personally wouldn't spend my money at a shop that would be so carefree about protecting NZ...
  2. Yeah some kind of cichlid is a must! Kribs... Keyholes are nice and not agressive... If you can get hold of some good prices loaches they are always a laugh! - but I don't know how much of a budget you need to stick to cause they aren't always cheap...
  3. Well done! I wonder how many others are out there though??!! :-?
  4. Who else thinks that just cause these fish slipped trough the MAF net, doesn't mean its OK to keep them?! I don't want to rock the boat but its not like they are just some kind of killie or african cichlid that wouldn't have a hope in hell of surviving in the wild...
  5. Yeah but look at what fish do when you knock on a glass fish tank. Then imagine smashing the glass with a hammer and think how the fish would like it!
  6. a soccer ball floating in the pond should do it too - as long as it doesn't get TOO cold!
  7. I though breaking the ice like that was bad cause the fish get scared?!
  8. Awesome In Scotland we used to go iceskating on our pond in winter! Does it get that thick down there??!
  9. yeah, very sad though... Well done sharn!
  10. Do you work there?? Please don't tell me they are still for sale....
  11. I totally agree that the importer should never have sent them to the shops - there is no way they would have thought they were loaches when they saw them. But the shops have a responsibility too - I don't believe that any shop who sold these really thought they were loaches - if they did I'm sorry but I find it pretty unlikely. If that is the case, and they sold them knowing they were some type of eel (which is, as well all know, pretty obvious!), then I think they should face up to the fact that when the crap hits the fan - they are the ones responsible for stopping new invasive species from getting into the country. It doesn't seem like many are taking this responsibility very seriously... Well done to your hubby though Afrikan
  12. Has anyone told MAF? Cause someone really should - if shops are selling these now knowing what they are - isn't that illegal??!
  13. Nah wasn't me - stop getting confused between me and Mark!!!
  14. Like when dogs go to 'the farm'??!
  15. Thanks David, awesome pics
  16. Ha! Well spotted! I'm guessing he's too busy breeding his fish to remember all of their names!
  17. What about the pulchers Afrikan??! Did you manage to make them stop??!!
  18. if you are looking for a big tank there are a few on trademe in Welly at the mo, cause you'll need one soon!
  19. You can kill hydra with a 9v battery (the square ones). Just give each terminal a wire and put them both into the tank - fish and plants are fine, hydra die (according to PFK a few years back!)
  20. Yeah - for people who have them be careful they don't escape into the wild cause that could be REALLY bad :-?
  21. Nice looking fish! http://images.google.co.nz/images?hl=en&q=claret+bettas&gbv=2
