    Who is nipping?

ok firstly let me express my sympathy's for the loss of such a lovely fish. Now let me just say, having most of the males in my family enjoy fishing, I have heard of a cat fish being hung on a line, out of the water, for 2 or 3 days and when the fisher man comes to collect him he gets a nasty surpize, the catch is still alive. I, personaly, would never put down a cat fish unless it's insides were on the outsides, or something very similar because they have a tendency to supprize you. just a thought for when your thinking of getting another cat fish.
  2. I suppose being relitivly new to the whole cichlid species I just assumed that the Apistogramma inconspicua was what 2fishy was refering to. That's what I had had, bought as "blue steels" off of Shae. I just found all though they were perfectly fine fish, I preferd the agasazi's that I had and didn't like to see the poor batchlors hastleing eachother.
  3. I had a pair of batchlers in a 3 foot tank then had to be transferd into the 2 foot tank. They were always housed with my agasazi trio and found them alright. The fact that there were 2 boys ment they did pick on eachother but otherwise were fine with the rest of the fish.

    Who is nipping?

I think that's a wonderful and very insightfull idea. My hats off to someone who puts the welfare of there animal above there own wants. I do agree that you should wait to let him settle for abit however.

    Who is nipping?

He is very striking. I have seen some lovely plecos myself and have thought "ooooo I want one" but I so don't want to be one of those people that get one, have it out grow my tank, then have to fined another home for it. I don't think that's fair, you must look ahead when you get a pet, and for those lovely creatures, ensuring you'll be able to provide them with adiquite housing for life should be a persons first thought when purchasing. Good on you for rescuing him.
  6. my LFS has about a dozen or two at the moment, $9 each PM if interested.
  7. I don't have platys, I have guppies and I wouldn't hesitate to say they are all males.
  8. Personaly I'd go for the red wine color, if all the other colors in the room are a nutral tone. I think it looks absolutely stuning.

    Who is nipping?

Well I don't have plecos, just B/N's but I'd say if all you have in the other tank is the 4 tetras and nothing else I'd just go ahead and plop him n2 the other one when ur ready. Of cource I tend to do that with my fish from tank to tank. The strongest survives. Of cource I wouldn't throw a guppie from a cold tank n2 a warm tank
  10. That would be something. To bad my floor wouldn't take it lol.

    Who is nipping?

Just to add my 2c hear. I personaly don't belive in adding more of a fish that I'm having a problem with. Sure some fish are suppose to behave better the more you have in your tank but if you have a few that are already a problem why get more? It is your decision, of course, I just think it odd to solve a problem by adding more of the same thing that is causing the problem. Good luck
  12. Penny means her first spawn was March 24th not Feb lol
  13. Then do electric yellows have any markings on there tail? Also do they have what looks to be a faint "stripe" (looks like a fold line really) down the middel of them (from tail to gills)?
  14. I sorta thought with the back wall nearly all done in rock caves that they'd be perfectly happy in the 2 footer, with plants as well of course.
  15. So get pairs not trios then on the kribs?
  16. well the one I think is a fem albino krib has a pink belly, the other one's don't. Is that right?
  17. I've been eyeing up the blue rams at the LFS for abit now. My only hesitation is how to tell the difference between the males and females? I've decided I'm going to go and get some today but want to make sure I have atleast one male and some fem's. I have also seen some lovely albino kribs and decided I'll have to have some of them to. However there appears to be only 1 fem (red belly) and the others (5ish) seem to be all males. Is there another way to tell if there are any more females in there? Also I wanted to know if I can pop these into a 2 foot tank w/3 cory's, 2 GBA's and (in future) 3 agasazi's. I'm looking at getting 3 rams and 3 kribs.
  18. So if it were me I'd just pop the lights on and off as per normal. BTW a big huge congrats!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  19. I've read, and found it to be true in my VERY limited time trying to breed these, that sometimes a female/male will just not like the mate we pick for them. To me it sounds like she just doesn't like the CT. If she's happy with the HM I, personaly, would leave her with him even though his nest isn't as good. You'd probably be more likely getting a successfull breeding, even if it's only a small one, with the HM and end up with a terrorized fem with the CT. Maybe she's just a simple girl at heart looking for a simple HM male  Another thing you might try is get a couple more fem's. It sure couldn't hurt, maybe one of them will take a shine to the CT and visa versa. Good luck either way
  20. I admit I'm very new to owning these lovely fish but the first thing that sticks out is the lack of a black on them (dorsal fin and front fins). That is standard with electric yellows isn't it?
  21. Sorry that picture was referencing the very top (blue thingy) of the gravel filter. The actual diamiter of it is smaller, much like the one on the tumbler websight. My last thought is the meshing I'm using is to tight. I've used the finest mesh I could fined from a large fish net. I woke up this morning and all the eggs/fry had died as I had not had the air pump going. I was afraid that it would simply push air into the chamber with the fry and the water out leaving them high and dry. Not very happy, and my electric yellows that I partialy (I hope) stripped yesterday would be even less so. The whole thing is 23cm long by 25mm wide. I don't know if that helps or not. The air stone is a small one however the opening at the top is very small, the air line just fits threw w/a little space for the air to escape. All advise/help would be appriciated. I will have this right before even thinking about stripping another fish.
  22. I understand and this is the kind of gravel cleaner I'm using It seems to be forcing air down the tube not water up the tube. I do have the top possitiond below the water line, a an inch or two and the top part just fills with air forcing it down into the middel chamber with the eggs/fry. What am I not doing right?
  23. http://www.sydneycichlid.com/diy/diytumbler.html is what I've been going on. Now I've got my little tumbler all set up, however I just don't see how it's suppose to work. I don't have the "out take" thingy I just have a standerd gravel cleaner that has a tube out the top. I've cut that off so I'm able to stick the air line down there. Having done this I've set it up in my tank, eggs all nicely secured but it does not force air DOWN the tube only up and out. I have the iar stone up top not down the bottom and being that the only air pump I have is a silent flo 200 it seems to scramble there brains when put the other way with the air stone at the bottom. Please any help/advise would be welcome.
  24. so no using the net then? Great that means I'll keep most of my sand. Thanks so much for that. I had seen about baking it but I don't have to many roasting dishes anymore and it's to hot to run the oven today. Figured I'd just use my big preserving pot.
  25. Ok I've got my 4 footer all ready, sitting on it's makeshift stand. I went out today and bought sand and rocks and have been washing the sand under the tap. I haven't quite made it threw one bag and have decided there must be a better way. I'm using the finest mesh fish net I have found and I'm still loosing quite a bit of sand (river sand). So I've come to you fine folks hoping someone out there has the answer. I do already have one "pot on the boil" and hopefully will be put in after T.
