Ok, I managed to partialy strip one of my electric yellows (5-10 fry/eggs) I had them in a large net, in the same tank as the adults with the filter blowing on them and a bubble wall, as my air stone needs replaced, under them. They did fine for 2 days then this morning I woke up the egg belly was gone and the fry were dead. I've heard about tumblers and would like to know what they are, how to make one or where to purchase a reasonably priced one. Also what I've done wrong. The other female that is holding her mouth looks very full and I plan on attempting another partial strip for her compfort and hopefully raising some fry. Any and all advise welcomed. Thanks

No I won't be putting her into the 15Lt, it's really only for hosp or emergency. I do, however, have a 4 footer that I need to clean out, set up and all that I "borrowed" from a friend I think instead of stressing any of them out with another move so quickly I'm just gonna let nature take it's course this time round. I'll be moving them all out of there anyways as I've got to move the tank onto the new stand, after it's painted. My last question, for now, is will the female starve themselves to death and how can I prevent her from starving at all?

BlueandKim I'll swap ya one for one if ya like u2. my amazon is possibly this http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aquarium_plants/?user_plants=47&cHash=62d31a205b or http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aquarium_plants/?user_plants=52&cHash=d098544e42 not really sure. I do have pics of it http://photobucket.com/albums/c360/MRSkz/?action=view¤t=3footer.jpg there. That's not the curent setup though.

funny you should post this as mine has done the same thing. I've looked at this http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/amazon ... 11942.html and just figured that's what mine was doing. would be nice for someone to confirm though.

me 2. It kinda looks like she's grown an adams apple and she's not opening her mouth very wide or often. I have no plans to strip her, not that confident about that atleast not yet. However I might pop her n that 15Lt in about a week? I don't want to mover her to soon as I'd like to let her have the run of the 3 footer for as long as possible with still saving the fry if possible.

YAAAY! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: whatever Tim had in his water I don't know but yesterday I noticed one of the electric yellows holding. I've never seen it before but it's so odvious when you do. I'm not sure if she was holding b4 she came here as I didn't notice it the day they arrived but they were a bit skidish so I could have over looked it. I just want to know what to do and what to expect. I have a 15LT holding "tank" that I could fill, w/water from the one they r in, and pop her in there? Any and all advise would be most appriciated.

congrats pene. lovely looking male there. I do hope you have better luck than I did. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

almost right 1/2 the price of the LFS, 3 times the quality and 2x or more the size. Tim is deffinatly the man to get your blue zebras and electric yellows off of, if u can catch him or employ a catcher like blue lol
-
so baking the sand would you do that on a biscut sheet or a roasting dish or what please? also what temp would you have it on? I assume you wouldn't have 2 or 3 trays going at the same time using fan bake

Just got my electric yellows and blue zebras down from wellington. Thanks to Blue&Kim and bulldog. They are setteling in nicely and looking very happy. I'm very excited, been doing a little happy dance since 830 this morning. :bounce: :bounce: Thanks again guys.

do male dwarfs eat there young then? or just cockatoos?
-
Thanks for that, I'd deffinatly remove the corys and gba's from teh 2 footer if I thought I was gonna have some eggs from the dwarfs. They are all abit small still to be thinking about that, I think.
-
great. I might try it with the 4footer I'm "borrowing" from a friend. It's been sitting in the back of there shed for a couple of years now so.. If it works out great, if not I can pop them back n2 the 3 footer till I can clean up the 4 footer again. Now can i just go down to the beach and get sand? I've seen something about baking it? I'd suppose you'd rince it but how do you not loose all the sand? Any tips would help, Thanks
-
I'm thinking about using sand as a substrain for my dwarf cichlid tank (3cory's and 3B/N as well) and setting up my 3 footer (2GBA's), which is soon to hold some malawi mbuna's, with a sandy bottom aswell. So what I want to know from all you who have tried it, good idea or bad idea and why please? Thanks

I'll have to get some more pics up soon, they have all colored up so lovely on a fairly steady diet of white worms. The colorless female even has stripes now!!
-
Funnily enough I've had a double red apisto male(x2 as the 1st died, then the 2nd did) and 2 fem's(only 1 left now) I know what they are suppose to look like but these one's are different. I'll try to get some better photos later. If they weren't so small I'd let my known double red apisto fem in there and I'd probably get a very good idea what was what, maybe. Unfortunatly she'd have the suspect females for lunch they are so small. This resembles one of my suspected males (not the big one) http://www.cichlids.dk/extern/artikel/u ... losa_x.jpg This resembles my very puny colorless suspect female http://www.zoo.ufl.edu/centers/migratio ... amma-s.jpg

my suspected male cockatoo does actualy have his dorsal fin up most times, just in that pic he doesn't. Go figure eah? He's the biggest of the 4. the unknown fem1 is the smallest. The way they behave some times, the other three (not the fem1) I don't know if maybe the 3 of em might be males. I suppose time, and possibly better pictures, will tell.
-
So I'm assuming that I'm right. The unknown fem2 looks very much like the "suspect cacatioud male" ecept not as much yellow and no black spots in the tail. I'm assuming that's a his female or another juvi male. The "unknown fem1" is something of a mistery. She's very washed out with very little coloration on her at all. I really do hope that someone that knows there dwarfs will respond but....

That's my Double Red Fem Unknown female2 Suspected Cacatioud Male Suspected Agassizi Male Unknown female1

no pics yet. Will atempt to catch the fem DR ag today, take her out of the 2 footer and pop her n the 15lt. Then I'll pop the 4 of them into the 2 footer and as I do that I'll get there photos.

Well I went to my LFS last night (8pm) and the owner was PISSED!!!! I mean she was sluring her words and everything!!! So being the loyal customer I am I wished her daughter a happy 16th and went to look at the fish. There in the tank all by them selves were what looked like 2 small males and 2 small rather punny females. So being the evil wicked person I am I walk up to the owner and say "hey do me a deal here" and what did I walk out with you ask? all 4 of them for $55!!! when they had been $22 each!!! Yes I did my little happy dance when I got out to the car. Now what I need to know is do I have an agassizi AND a cacatuiod or what? I've looked at the "males" and one looks to have a black line from the bottom of the eye down and a spade shape, single color tail. The other male looking one is more yellow with a V shape tail that's yellow with black flecks threw it and has a line from the top of the eye, threw the eye and under. The "females" are different to. I have one that is puny and rather colorless and one that's more colored up. I can't really get a good look at the females at the moment they seem to be hiding. I'm hoping once I catch my double red female agassizi from my 2 footer I can throw the 4 I just got in there and put the DR fem into the 15LT holding tank they are in. My DR fem is as large as the males I just got and I figure it would be best to keep them seprate for a time being that she gets a little nippy and the other females are rather small. So help, oppinions, suggestions are all welcome here. Thanks

I always have microworms for sale if you're needing some.

I did manage to "save" the eggs last time but they were all infertile. I belive that they do TRY to interbreed but just can't manage it. I don't have any pepperd ones anymore just my albinos. I have 1 odvious male and 2 very female looking ones. They have tried to breed but again B/N's seem to love the eggs, as well as everything else.
-
Why not just pop the male and female (once you get them) into there own tank? even one of your little tanks would be fine for that. Then when they breed (don't hold your breath) you can just plonk the female in with the guppys. I really do hope you have better luck than I did with breeding. Out of 3 females and 3 different males at different times I didn't manage to get one successfull breeding. My males also keep dieing after about 3-4 months so I decided to go for my passion, cichlids!!! Good luck Pene.
