    Guppy Tails

Pene want to pop them over here n c if they try it when they've got more room?
  2. hey there. what cichlids, do you mined posting and when do they need to go by please?
  3. Hey all, I've mixed my guppies up a batch of this stuff and they love it. However I don't enjoy the mess of having a ball of floating meatstuff slowly disinigrating into my tank. Anyone got any ideas how to keep the mess down and contained?
  4. I'd love to have a look at the keyholes but my tank wont be ready for them till it's a little older, a week or so if that's ok. I haven't found any local plant growers but I think PennyJane was thinking about taking it up. If you want to work out details of a trade I'll pm you my contact details.
  5. hey Max, you interested in a few hundred guppies? I've got a 2 foot tank where I transfer all the babbies I fined in with my two cory's and would be happy to trade.

    guppy drop

I am having the hardest time telling wich of my 6 females are dropping the babbies. I can narrow it down by half as I have 3 black and 3 blond females. If the babies are light I assume it's one of the blonds and if they are dark I assume they are one of the blacks. I have caught one of the blonds once having babbies, it was pure dumb luck. I was just looking at her and *pop* out comes a babby. Unfortunatly I never took specific notice of wich one it was and out of the 3 blonds there's only one that's very different from the others. I have heard that some of the females drop the bottom of there tails but I've never seen any of mine do this. I know WHEN babies are due I just don't know WHO is due. Any hints?
  7. I have a lovely 3 foot tank with 9 guppies and 1 B/N. I've been looking and looking at other fish to put with them, after the tank has matured more of cource. The tank has only live plants, aquarium "potting soil" under it's aproximately 3cm of gravel (in the front), and 2 reasonable sized pieces of drift wood. The cichlids really appeal to me but I don't want anything that'll be easily killed, desimate my plants, gravel or other fish. I do intend to try and get some long finned danios and some neon/cardnal tetras. Thoughts, suggestions, advice all welcome.
  8. sadily if I hadn't had the bright idea, wich I got from one of the MANY books I read after setting up my 2 foot tank, to put "aquarium potting soil" under the gravel I wouldn't mined the digging quite so much. I do accept that the fish will have the odd munch on a plant and don't mined that, I just don't want my plants decimated
  9. I do have 2 cory's in my baby tank. I transfer all the babies I can catch in there. I have to admit the cichlids are lovely but I don't want anything that's going to eat my plants, dig up the gravel and harass the little guppies I've heard the krib's are pretty mellow, anyone know of any other cichlids that would fit into the "for the most part not eating the plants, digging up the gravel or harassing the guppies"?
  10. Ok ya'll here's a question. I have a lovely 3 foot tank with the above mentioned fish in it. I've been looking and looking at other fish to put with them, after the tank has matured more of cource. The tank has only live plants, aquarium "potting soil" under it's aproximately 3cm of gravel (in the front), and 2 reasonable sized pieces of drift wood. Now my question is what other little fishies would be good here. Of cource I'm bound to end up with some neons. I'm quite drawn to the long finned danios aswell. What really calls to me, though, are the cichlids, especialy the kirb's. Here's my delema however, I don't want anything that's agressive, eats my plants or diggs up the substrain. I know frustrating eah? Any ideas people?
  11. Thanks for that. I had to do that with my 2footer when the nitrites tried to take over. It's finally settled down and I decide to go and set up another tank lol.
  12. Ok now ya'll I've done my reading so I'm not compleatly uninformed THIS TIME lol. Now I've set up my 3 foot tank, gave it a few days with plants and a couple of buckets of water from my mature tank before adding my 9 little guppies. Now the amonia is off the scales but the nitites are fine so do I really need to worry as the tank has only been set up for 4-5 days. I've also just added heaters today, as I didn't realize till lastnight the old heater I had blew a fuse trying to heat the entier tank all by itself. Not sure if this might have something to do with the amonia going up so much since I checked it 2 days ago. All help appriciated
  13. Well sadly the info about the BN came just abit late. There are about 8-10 remaining eggs, about half on a leaf that's now in a breeding trap and the other 1/2 on the side of the tank. My slick little BN has evaded all attempts at capture and remains skulking around the tank. Think they put speedy pills in the fish food down here  My albino is just that a straight albino, don't belive there's anything special bout her cept she's really fat. Don't think there's anything special about my pepperd male either. They were both bought at the LFS, different one's however, and about a month apart. I didn't intend to get one fem one male just wanted some company for my albino who looked very lonely. I WAS going to get some more peppers and albinos and try to breed them SEPERATLY but hey guess I'll go with the flow and see what, if anything, happends.
  14. Penejane, I'm new to this fish keeping stuff but seem my BN has been doing fine on just shrimp pelots, the drift wood from the shop and cruzin round the side of the tank. I'll tell ya the library has lots of good books, most of wich I've checked out, on aquariums. After my first mistake, purchasing fish that I didn't really want (Never take a 3 year old with you when buying fish!!) I made sure I've read up on any fish that even slightly interests me. I'm still wondering what else to add with my cory's, guppies and BN. I'm still reading though so who knows what I'll end up with.
  15. speaking of cory's I've moved my guppies out of my 2footer into a 3footer. I've left my albino and my pepperd cory in the 2footer along with the baby bristlenose and a "basket" of baby guppies. To my supprize 2/3 days latter I've found cory eggs!! I knew the albino was a female and the pepper was a male but wasn't TRYING to breed them. The eggs are now just about 24 hours old, I've let the babies guppies loose since they were just getting to be SOO many. So I was wondering, since I've done everything wrong so far :-? is there anything I should do to insure the survival of the eggs? The tank temp is 22C with a powerfilter (a sponge thingy on it to keep the babies safe), and no airpump going.
  16. Casper you got that right. I think it's probably more adictive than gambling. My husband has forbiden me from getting another tank this year I think he's worried bout me taking up the entier lounge. I DID pass on a 1.5 meter tank setup just the other day. To answer your question I haven't had fish since i was knee high to a grasshopper and them my mother did most of the "fish keeping". She's said since that she wouldn't have fish again lol. That's how this started. I got the 2 footer for my preschoolers and so it began. I've been in this frozen arctic tundra for a few years now Blue and Kim, bout 7 years. I can tell you this for nothing it just keeps getting colder!! I happend to fined the love of my life all the way at the bottom of the world so that's why I'm here. I have been keeping my eye out for the odd add in the paper selling reasonably priced fish, not just the LFS but haven't seen any yet. I'll keep looking till my 9 little guppies have some tank mates in that bit 3 footer other than the 2 cory's that are to be moved latter.
  17. Just a quick little howdy from a TX southerner from alot more south than I ever thought I'd be. I've just started my first aquarium about two months ago and have found it adictive. I already have my second aquarium, have moved plants and guppies in although they look a little lost. My cory's seem to be able to actualy get something to eat while they wait to be transferd out of the "baby tank". Well that's enough of my ramblings for now. Just wanted to say hey, show my "face" and maybe fined a few other fishkeepers down here in the "arctic" *burrrrr*
