    HELP eggs

ok I've got some lovely double red apistogramma agazzis (1male 2 fem's) they have been in the 3 foot tank, the male was just gotten 36 hours ago and have laid eggs. my problem is my 3 year old son decided to give the 3 footer a feed, 6 MONTH'S WORTH!!! so having intended to move the tank anyways I've gatherd up all the fishy's, moved them to the 2 footer which there is plenty of room in and started stripping down the tank. the back, as you'll c on my sig, was full of rocks which were NOT glued. I started taking them down just aft they started to colaps (been fine for couple of months now don't know what happend) no one was injured but found apisto eggs. now I have moved the rock with the eggs into my 1 footer w/a heater hoping that they will hatch. what should I do now, what are my chances, any ideas? ty
  2. so was wondering has anyone had a male that didn't bublenest when he had some females with him? I had him in the main tank in a little breeding trap (to protect the females) while he was getting introduced and no bubblenest attempts. now I've got him in a tank by himself with just one female and still no bubblenest. anyone have any ideas what's up?
  3. http://photobucket.com/albums/c360/MRSkz/ my lovely's and there not so apt fish photographer owner. the big red fem might have to fined another home as she is REALLY big but I'm going to be trying her with my new, and now only, male (he's just a beauty) was worth trading the other 2 imo. just thought I'd let everyone else have a looksie. latter.
  4. couldn't you get some axolotls to eat em up? they're cute, cudly and would probably make short work of them bad fishy's. just my 2 cent's though.
  5. thanks heeps for all the ideas and suggestions, more is always welcome. getting most of my info from the forum and here http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/malmbuna.htm I'm of the mined to stick to the "non agresive" (as much as mbunas come ) one's with a max size of 12cm (aprox) I know I have just the bare minimum tank size for theise guys that is one reason I want to stick to the smaller variety. I already have 2 filters and an airstone going in the tank wich is severly UNDER stocked w/guppies, corys, bn's and dwarf chiclids (4). I caught the "bug" when I fell inlove with a double red male apistogramma agazzi. I can see my guppies and betta (1male 1fem) falling by the wayside and me dedicating the 2 foot tank to my b/n's, cory's and dwarfs but not there YET. When I was reading up on fish before getting any I remember reading "DON'T GET CHICLIDS" I can, now, only imagine that this person musta been N U T S!!!
  6. I'm thinking of going with Pseudotropheus socolofi, Pseudotropheus saulosi, Pseudotropheus demasoni, Pseudotropheus daktari, Pseudotropheus acei, Maylandia / Metriaclima estherae, Maylandia/Metriaclima crabro, Labidochromis caeruleus, Iodotropheus sprengerae. well a selection of those don't know that I could have all of them in a 3 footer I also don't know if all of those are avalible in NZ. so that's what I'm sorta looking at, ideas, thoughts, coments, and how many I should think about putting n2 the tank would be appriciated. ty
  7. Ok I've come over to the "dark side". I'm changing my 3 foot tank to suit the Mbuna's that I WILL be getting. I've got half the back wall done in rocks so far http://www.geocities.com/twalknz/mrskzfishys.html the first 3 footer is what it looked like before hand. Now I've been reading that theise fish like a tank that's even abit over stocked. I don't know how true this is or not but I wanted to know how many of them should I look to be putting in my 3 footer (exactly 90cm x 45 x 45) Also your suggestions on fish would be appriciated. I'm don't want anything that's extreamly agresive or that gets HUGE however. ty all
  8. Well Pene gave me her's that you had sent as she was having problems getting enough light to her other plants. I have it in my 3 foot tank with a sad little one flora light, lights are EXPENSIVE, and I've been chucking it out, putting it on trademe, doing anything I can to keep it to a dull roar. The duck weed that's in there might be encouraging it, not sure. I have both in my 2 footer aswell and if left to there own divices they'd take over the tank. wicked stuff, handel with care

hee hee, my betta's sorry. I honestly thought I'd posted that
  10. is that a b/n in with the axolotyl? isn't that a warm water fish in with a cold water fish? I'm abit confused here but I didn't think you could mix the two.
  11. no he's not chasing here away yet. he's chasing her TO the nest, when he has some energy. she's getting a little haggerd looking. I've added some malefix stuff to the tank, going to leave them in overnight again and if nothing's happend I'll pop the fem in her holder so she can recover. now I was wondering how long any of ya'll would leave them to "do there thing" when u have 2 fist timers? I don't want them getting "disheartend" if fishy do get that way but I also don't want to destroy the "hard work" they've done. idea's anyone? ty, Tammy
  12. lol they need something cripes. they are both of similar size to, she's not to big or small, he's not to big or small I THINK they are both juuuuuuuuuuust right. looks like she's tierd and he's giving a half effort of chasing her but more interested n the bubble nest AGAIN. I tell ya my guppies are breeding like guppies. My cory's, back when I had just 1albino fem and 1 peper'd male tried there little hearts out (laid egg's twice but just couldn't cross). betta's seem to need a "how to" book.
  13. ok update. I've replaced the bit of poly w/a poly cup (halfed) and the bubble nest is taking shape AGAIN and looking LOT'S better. the main problem is neither of them have spawnd before so they don't know how and that is QUITE evident. he trys to embrace her, THINK'S he has her but doesnt and stays like that for a few moments where she's just lookin at him sayin "over here buddy". they ARE trying they just aren't DOING. anyone got a betta sex edd vid they could watch?
  14. Howdy ya'll. now this is my first breeding atempt and everything's been going pretty well. my male has built a lovely bubble nest under a bit of polystyrine, I have kept the fem on one side of a clear divider and the male on the other. I introduced them slowly, for a few hours only the first time, a few more the second, now I've left them for 18hours ish. funny thing is they are both now under the polystyrine, the bubble nest has been compleatly desimated but they are still trying to embrace. this brings me to my question, should I now seperate them while the male rebuilds his bubble nest as they have been hanging out under what WAS the nest for atleast an hour or more. they aren't hurting eachother, they are just busy trying to spawn but not realizing they don't have anything to put the eggs in IF they are sucsessfull. any advice would be greatly appriciated, Tammy

  16. I have read that you're NOT to take them out on "walks" as a workmate of my husband use to do w/one he had ages ago. Personaly I can't think of anything cruler. I wouldn't mined having some but then again there are lots of fish I wouldn't mined having. Having room is another thing, and a cold water tank.
  17. I had read somewhere that if they constantly have access/are kept out of water they would turn metomorph. I think they're wicked just the way they are though and wouldn't understand why anyone would want to change them but that's just me.
  18. awsome, just awsome. so you must do tank design as "work"? and one more time AWSOME!!
  19. I just have to say WOW and if ur coming down to invercargill you MUST stop by and decorate my 2 tanks

    Fish Food

why would you not feed beef heart to chiclids? I'm getting some dwarfs down and ALWAYS feed my guppies, cory's and bn beef heart.
  21. This ^^^ is the betta I was told, by the LFS, that was just fat when I took him in for an exam. I have been concerned about him lieing on the bottom of the tank, fin's clamped slightly and lathargic for a few days now. I've had it in isolation for a coulpe days now treating him with the blue drops. he seem's to have started perking up some but I want to know is he just FAT or is there something wrong with him? I would have thought that if he was just "fat" it would be in his belly not his chest reagion.

    sick betta??

this is what my poor little betta looks like now. you can just see he's swollen behined the gills, in the chest region. I don't know if this is new or normal as he's my first one but I have him in a an "isolation" contraption and have been treating him with that blue stuff and his fins r still clamped and he still seems unhappy, laying on the bottom of the tank and all. any ideas would be greatly appriciated.
