ah thank you, I would have bought the tabs as they are usually better value for money but think I have a good place to get flakes by the kg.

IOU1 thanks for that. I had read about giving them pelets and had thought I'd do that but will stay away from it now. I've got a good culture of daphnia that's been sitting here, neglected but still thriving and getting some white worms again and hopefully some earthworms as well. Would you recomend spiralina tabs for them or not?

Well I've decided to jump into the cold water and get some baby oranda's I've got the tank, the filter, the water and the fish (next week) what I would like to know is other than oxy weed is there anything else that I should put in with them and what's the best food to use for these guys. I've done a bit of reading and I've seen that they do well on protein but I'm sure there are experienced keepers out there that would be more exact as to what brand, mix suits better than others. Thanks

ok thank you alanmin4304 I was confused by this auction 126116271 on Trademe stating it was "A Helthy Female nmyphs Orange/black Oranda goldfish from April 2006."

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between a nmyphs Oranda and just an Oranda? Is there any?

thanks just doing a bit of research before deciding what to put in what tank. was thinking of using my 2 foot tank 60cm wide by 45cm tall by (from memory as it is put away) 30-40ish cm wide. does that sound about right?

I just read that the snake necks make a smell sometimes, like skunks?

I've had my empty tanks sitting there for awhile now and have been thinking of using one for frogs but wondering if you could put them with fish?

I'm also thinking about getting into turttles, at this stage, the local store has the snake neck ones was wondering how they are to keep?

Oh the tank is stripped down and the fish are moved into a shallow 2 footer (lidded/ no filter) that I had had some GBA's in. The GBA's moved into a 19lt holding tank (they are still maturing) w/out a heater as I'm a bit shy on the smaller one's. I've dupped all the sand and fish but kept the plants, keeping them in with the fish that came from that tank. I'll be setting up the 3 footer (after a good clean out...where I got the bad sand from) in a few days probably just bare bottomed until I'm able to look at restocking it. I don't know that I'll be going with malawi's again though something else has recently taken my eye but I'll have to do some research, and save save save, before doing anything about it.

Well seems we all do it, eventualy I suppose. Get complacent and don't clean something enough or think "she'll be right" or just don't think at all and put something in a tank that later comes back to bite us in the tush. It seems it was my turn to do that yesterday and today I woke up to a 4 footer with 95% deaths. My cichlid tank has now been reduced to a dozen electirc yellow and blue zebra babies (the smallest of the small) and the biggest of the big one humbug catfish (fingers crossed he'll make it). I've lost all my Kenyi, Aratus, my Bumblebee's, the larger 4-6cm baby electric yellows and blue zebras, and 2 red tailed sharks. Yesterday I decided to top up the cichlid tank's sand with the sand from the 3 footer that I'd recently stripped. I was having a few die off's in there so moved all the fish to the 2 footer (numbers were suficiantly thinned to do this). I didn't think about the sand making them sick. Also I dropped in a courgette into the tank, from the garden, and I don't remember if I gave it a wash or not. I suppose this will be a costly reminder not to get complacent when keeping fish.

so how aggresive are the red Kadango? They are really lovely but don't want them getting picked on in my tank. I've got kenyi, bumble bees, and auratus along with one large Platydoras costatus.

I found the slow release feeding blocks good. When I'd come home and there were some left I'd just take them out of the tanks, put them in a plastic bag and keep them for the next time. Worked very well in my case.

I've used one of those feeding cubes on one occation when we've went away. The other I've used those old peoples pill organizers and put dried food for each day in them. The neighbor would come over and just open up one and dump it in and that would be it.

I think it takes alot of courage to come here and appoligize. I, myself, had thought about buying some plants, never did but I know I would be livid if all my plants, fish and equipment were damaged or destroyed because someone else decided to overstep the law. I think that anyone who knowingly imports ilegal goods and sells them should be held responsible for the financial costs of the containment as well as replacement of other things that are destroyed or damaged in the cleanup. I would hope that anyone who has thought of or is thinking of subverting the law in this manor would now consider not only the consiquences that they themselves would face but what they would put upon unsuspecting and trusting individuals. And that's my 2c

Actualy the problem with the rocks falling over is with the cichlids, in my case. I've never had any problem with my B/N's causing caves to collaps. My blue zebras, however, have caused many a cave in. I've had the odd B/N come out with a bit of a scratch from the Malawi's digging but other than that they seem to love the sand.

I've read that's suppose to be quite good sand. I've got just river sand in with my Mbuna's I can tell you they just love it. I'm constantly raking it back in the wholes they dig.
