fishandchips
A rather spectacular and pricey tropical tank. Looks very good in the flesh. Not sure where the $56 000 went though. http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/324898/56000-spent-ward-fish-tank
Dr A
For that price I was expecting Mr Amano himself....

Dropped
Yip i think a few people clipped that ticket on the way through! How can a fresh water planted tank cost that much?
kiwiraka
The tank cost more than $73,000 to install what did they do? Put the stand together with diamond bolts?

Caryl
I would be asking for an itemised account!
David R
The itself tank cost $15k to install, the consultants required to determine the location, shape, size, noise factor, feng shui, and any possible cultural conflicts it may cause with Iwi or the LGBTG communities took up the rest I imagine. Ira
I'd have done it for them for half that!
calculator
It is a nice looking tank, but that is far excessive an amount for that tank though. If I was the one that was in charge of getting in installed I would want any contractors to be giving more itemised accounts.
Godly3vil
$129k to setup and maintain for the first 12 months. This does not take into account the power that it is consuming. Bargain.
Godly3vil
Someone from DAPS should contact them and offer to maintain it, from my experience none of the Dunedin petshops will have a clue on how to properly maintain this tank. Would be a great look for the club.

reef
overpriced, for that money a marine tank would have been better.
stillnzcookie
What's the last G stand for? Usually it would be LGBTQ and the Q is for queer
Ira
Usually it would be LGBTQ and the Q is for queer That would be redundant given the L, G and B. And probably slightly offensive?
phoenix44
Yeah, just a little offensive haha
stillnzcookie
That would be redundant given the L, G and B. And probably slightly offensive? Depends on who uses the term - it is how some people choose to self-identify. Sometimes the Q also stands for "questioning". There are people who do not consider themselves precisely lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender, so it is sometimes used as a general term to denote "non-heterosexual" - it's not offensive if it is the term a particular person chooses to use to describe him/herself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer

I go by Queer, myself The Q is kind of used as an umbrella term for anyone who doesn't fit in to the first four. There's heaps of variations - LGBTQA tends to be the most common "up to date" version, LGBTQAI is on occasion used but some Intersex people feel uncomfortable about being "forced" into a community when they don't have any differing gender or sexual identity (it's debated, I don't speak for anyone so I don't know what is right/wrong). P is sometimes included too. It gets more complex It's not complex once you get it, but it's quite confusing at first. MOGII (Marginalized Orientation, Gender Identity, and Intersex) has been suggested instead to reduce the acronyms - some only go by MOGII but I don't quite know whether it's going to catch on or not. I tend to use "Queer community" - easiest way to put it, is a nice umbrella term lol. No debate around who "should" and "shouldn't" be included. Note that all of the above, like, changes pretty regularly and it all depends on who you're talking to, though.
livingart
about as complex as the pricing on the tank
alanmin4304
Some people complain about being put into pigeon holes then spend all their energy creating more holes to be pigeon holed in to. Leave the pigeons to deposit on the statues or be made into pies I say, and just be who you are with no label other than that given by your parents. alanmin4304
I think a lot of the cost would have been involved in consultations such as would the natives be offended, would it be safe etc. This is all part of the bollocks imposed by the government where all these "experts" with massive fees have to be involved in the process. Having spent some time in the children's ward in Christchurch many years ago where there was a tropical aquarium I can confirm that the kids really loved it.
