Insect Direct
and if they don't have the actual critter keeper brand there are knock offs and or similar other type plastic tanks in most shops. may cost more than $20 too. and probably want to upgrade to an exo terra type setup once half grown .. for young i use one similar to this only slightly bigger. http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/o ... 820075.htm

livingart
Kept outside but under cover, tank is covered in polystyrene on really cold nights. Used outdoors tape to put poly on sides and base, also to attach glass lids. Use a small mussel punnet with over ripe banana in it, let fruit flies blow it then put lid on and make small hole for flies to escape, easy feeding. Adrienne
They don't. That tank is lidded with the back lid taped on.
HarrysHerps
We took the lid off to add more ventilation (like they would in the wild) as they were not eating as well and now they are doing great. We have never had issues with them escaping. This may be due to them being young and hide mostly. Or because they are surrounded by water and rarely enter it. cuviceps
I see overseas they use a fine sand for their tanks as a substrate, looks great but was told gravel is a no no due to impaction. Surely a real fine sand would be the same? Have got 6 newts currently and wanting to goto a bigger setup hence the query re sand as it looks awesome! bichogrilo
I have kept my newts in an open topped tank for several years. I just added a wide lip of glass all around the top. They can climb glass but not upside down glass.
