SamH
I have few questions relating to these guys: 1. Do they need a covered tank? Will they climb out of a rimless aquarium? 2. What is the best thing to feed them on? 3. Where can I get some in Auckland? Thanks!
Barnacle
4. I'd like to know if anyone has had any survive a reasonable length on time in a tropical tank... My brother and i had a few, maybe 2months was the longest we had one live, and theat was in an unheated tank. The rest didnt live too long. Also thanks from me
F15hguy
some in my plant tanks at work (24-25 degrees) have been going since late February I think, almost a year now, but they are getting bigger and might turn into females soon. never had a berried female survive longer than a week. Stella
Not sure if they can climb, but I wouldn't trust them not to jump. A lower water level would help. They will live shorter in a tropical tank than in cold water. And yeah, as Fi5hguy says, don't take berried females home, they die fairly quickly. blueether
I have 5 in a rimless 15 l and have not had any jump out. But in any tank with fish I have had them jump out.

F15hguy
go exploring your local drains, you may find surprising things, one of the tutors in my course next year told me they found some rare galaxid swimming around happily in a cattle irrigation drain in papamoa

SamH
Another question. Should I be using a heater just to keep the tank stable at around 20°C or are room temperature fluctuations fine?
blueether
My small tank with shrimp is just at room temp, one of them died yesterday when the room hit
Ira
My small tank with shrimp is just at room temp, one of them died yesterday when the room hit 30 If you cut the plug off the heater, swap the two wires and reconnect them then the heater will work in reverse and suck heat out of the tank until it reaches the set point. GrahamC
Wouldn't it be just easier to turn the heater upside down? Same effect as your proposed wiring change, and wouldn't void the warranty.
Ira
Wouldn't it be just easier to turn the heater upside down? blueether
If all the hotwater sank then one could siphon it off at the bottom and top the tank up with an auto top-up system?
livingart
 just put the tank in the fridge
GrahamC
No, that will just make the hot water sink to the bottom of the tank. It's not necessary to invert the tank as well!
