Adrienne
mmmmm.... I hit a pedestrian a few years ago. She came running around the corner looked to her left and ran out in front of my car. The excuse was that in China they drive on the other side of the road. Anyway Alan - look on the bright side - things can only get better. For all of you in ChCh I think daily of what it must be like living not knowing when the next jolt is going to be. I was born in ChCh and lived there 24 years and only remember one earthquake in that time. Maybe its memory fade

Maybe its memory fade  Not memory fade, it just rarely happens. The faultline causing all this has been inactive for over 16,000 years
alanmin4304
The scary bit is that she hit a pushbike and her chinese electric assist is a complete right off. The front forks have crumpled completely. Hate to think what it would be like if it hit a car.

Adrienne
I get what you are referring to Alan. Maybe it was just the angle she hit the pushbike on but obviously the electric must be structurally weak.

DonnaM
Good grief, just when we think its easing up a bit, we get another 4.4 that sends the house and nerves shaking! Had enough of this now
jn
That was a really nasty one wasn't it.. amazing how much difference there is between a 4.2 and 4.4. I'd be glad to stop being reminded though! (My poor cats are so freaked out too!)
DonnaM
aaand then we get woken at 3.13am again by a 4.5

DonnaM
4.6 at 2430 hrs... we'd just gone 24hrs without one registering on geonet...and then a good shaking, rolling 4.6 after midnight!
Jennifer
Check out this video. It is very impressive!
Jennifer
By the way, last night's 4.6 was the first aftershock that caused me to loose water from the tanks...admittedly I only really filled them to the top again about two weeks ago, but still, we had two 5.0 shakes in that time and no water was lost. Was it just me, or was that pretty full-on for a 4.6?
MarkLB
It wasn't just you, it felt larger than 4.6 to me.
DonnaM
Definately felt larger than a 4.6. It must be because of where it was centred. I certainly had plenty of water sloshing too, but not out of the tanks this time
DennisP
Twas also a really shallow one. Would have contributed to it also.
Caryl
I gather you have just had another big shake. My aunt has lost power. Son reports a big shake but they are OK. How is everyone else? Last quake on Geonet shows a 4.0 at 10.54 so it hasn't updated yet.

DonnaM
Yep, pretty big one. Lots of tank splashing, but I still got power. Amelias tank has yet again got water on the wrong side of the partitian  I was outside....pretty scary Milo just ran into the back-yard... I ran inside and started wiping the minor water spills... all basking areas are now soaking wet and all turtles in the water..... I've really had enough now..
