Interesting visit

Recommended Posts

I just had visit from my neighbour you owns Tas Bay Herbs here in Motueka.

He bought with him an Australian aquaculturist who he has commissioned to design and build a pilot aquaculture system for his business.

Basically the system includes four 2000 litre tanks that will contain White Amur Carp (and yes he has the licence to farm this species). These tanks will be filtered through very large wet/dry filters and then the water pumped through his hydroponics system to feed his herbs. Any waist herbs and plant matter are going to be dried and pelletised to feed the carp. Once the carp reach a certain size the will be killed and sold for human consumption.

An almost totally closed system. I'm looking forward to seeing it up and running.

Sounds like they could be tasty eating!

I'm hoping that I will be one of the first on the list to try one.

Apparently they grow up to a metre long

Being fed on herbs they may come pre seasoned

It is planned to have the system completed in four months.

The work on putting in the underground filtration units has already begun.

I will see if I can get a few pic's
